Il Moro Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed the revised menu featuring a large variety of choices in various courses with snaller portions. It enabled us to try different selections where if one ordered normal portions it would have been difficult to consume. Our server was most attentive and highly professional. It was altogether a memorable experience.
Good food. The menu descriptions were actually better than the actual food. My sorbets had the "taste of can" in them, indicating that they either came from a can or were prepared with canned fruit. Bad way to cleanse the palate, but the presentation was better. Overall, the food quality was the equal of a lower-priced trattoria, but not up to the prices charged. That's why I rate the food good but not very good.
Service was very good--no errors in delivery or timing. It's hard to balance speed without rushing. I was fine with delivery speed--my wife felt rushed.
The food is superb and the owners are dedicated to making the experience of dining memorable for the guests-very rare at this time. The prices have been reduced to make it economically feasible for all levels of income and they are open to suggestions to make it better. They have been in business for 17 years, but still show the same attention to detail they did when they first began.
I hadn't been to Il Moro for a few years, found their new menu with appetizers and entrees listed together a bit confusing. We had to ask the waitress which was which. One member of our party ordered pizza and it was delivered cold, was not much better after he sent it back. The remaining three meals were good.
This restaurant is a real find, and a longtime favorite, more so now that they've reduced prices and sizes of dishes. We love the patio seating by the water and trees. What a special setting between two large office buildings! Waitress Barbara is an outstanding professional, super efficient & personable. She helped make our dining experience memorable. Not so much another "hostess" who, although we were the only ones on the patio, decided, for reasons known to herself, to seat another couple at the very next table. What's worse, the female of the couple proceeded to prattle non-stop in a rapid-fire loud, shrill foreign voice, to the point where we had to move to a table far away. That was a good move, because the woman started smoking!!
We weren't impressed with the server. She seemed aloof, somewhat cold, and even poured water into my friend's whiskey glass. Our water glasses were empty for much of the meal. It's too bad. We liked the food, but now we're going to find another place to go.
A lively mix of business professionals, industry types, and ladies-who-lunch in an unexpectedly attractive setting. Prices are reasonable for what feels like an upscale restaurant. What I didn't like--tuna tartare with avocado creme on bed of olives sounded wonderful, but was WAY too salty. My mezzelune pasta was nondescript and the portion was tiny (despite the BIG bowl it came in). In this day and age of unlimited soft drink refills, they charged me $3.00 every time they refreshed my Diet Coke. On top of it, we waited forever to get our meal because our waiter admittedly lost our ticket, so we had to reorder everything, only to have our appetizer and main courses rushed out nearly simultaneously. I would try it again, but guardedly.
I took my in-law's here for dinner and the proprietor was very nice because we told him in advance that we wanted to pay. He was very accomodating about everything from the payment to seating us in their lovely outdoor dining area. Though its entrance is part of an office bldg when seated outside you can have your own private sort of cabana and there is a lovely landscaped area. The food are all small portions and extremely reasonably priced. So if you are hungry you can spilt a thin crust pizza with your companion and have an amazing meat, fish or pasta dish which is not super sized. The service was amazing tho we did go during the week a Thursday night. The bar area was a hip after work place which was noisier.
When we walked in, we noticed what looked like a party, the hostess said, Oh, no, that's just our happy hour. Well, needless to say, I am totally going back for that! They had appetizers that looked so yummy and the atmosphere was very inviting...and this was on a Wedneday! They had a large TV in the bar and had the Lakers game on. Our server was really great, attentive and helpful. She mentioned they had a new chef and he had brought the portion size and prices down. Between two people, we split the calamari and each had an entree, was perfect for us and the bill didn't break the bank. Everything seemed very fresh. The lighting and ambiance was nice and we had no problem with having a conversation. Would totally go back again!
If you are looking for service with panache, savory food well presented, in an inviting setting at reasonable prices, you have come to the right place. We chose outdoor seating on the patio to better enjoy the beautiful day and thoroughly enjoyed the courtyard style ambiance. Although we did not imbibe, I must say the wine and drinks list is impressive as well. We will be back for our next lunch meeting, you can be sure.
Il Moro is one of those LA secrets which catch you by surprise when you have the good fortune to discover it. Entering from the impersonal concrete and traffic of W. Olympic and Purdue, you immediately change gears as the relaxing and elegant embrace of Il Moro makes you forget you are anywhere but the end of the Italian rainbow. The restaurant is practically a designer Spa for delicious and well-priced selections. The service which greets you, seats you and feeds you is warm and friendly and attentive without a grain of attitude. Whether inside or under the umbrellas on the patio listening to the lively waterfall, your first thought and last will be: when can I come back? Try the grilled chicken and any homemade pasta. Great wine list.
Other than the high corkage fee of $25, everything else was good. Portions are small, so don't think that your entree of $15 is a good deal...my group of 4 (including 2 ladies that don't eat much) had to order 6 plates to be satisfied. Outdoor patio is great with a man-made pond/creek, but it was a bit windy and cold so we had to sit inside.
we enjoyed a salad & pizza here on our last night in the US before returning to UK. It was a delicious thin crust pizza, one was enough for both of us, and the waitress kindly advised us this when ordering. The salad with raw baby artichoke was filled with flavour. There was an interesting beer list, don't know about the wines. It was a really nice end to our holiday.
