Lovely restaurant near the Royal Hawaiian - food and service are first rate.
There is a side patio which is very pleasant - it's also popular so it may not be available.
We are Italian and maybe we expect to much from Italian restaurants outside of home and Italy..
My husband and my meal were sub-par. The octopus was a bit dry and chewy and had a bit of fat on it. Our pasta (we shared thankfully) wasn't cooked to el dente, so it was uncooked really. For the price we paid, it should be Perfect. It's our second time for a disappointing meal here.
Our friends on the other hand really enjoyed their salad, soup and their shared spaghetti and meatball.
We went there because ny husband wanted the sea urchin pasta (Uni) he got it last year and liked it. I got the clams w linguine which was also very good.
The meatball appetizer was raw. We advised the waiter and showed him. He apologized and said he was going to get us another one and not charge us but it never came. Pasta didn't seem completely cooked either. I have always liked the food here but the last two times it was not satisfactory. I am not ready to give up yet. I will give it one more try.
We’ve been here on previous occasions and loved it but this time, after being seated, we were passed by by a couple of waiters and I. The 15-20 minutes we were there, not a si glue person came to our table or said a word to us. So, we left. I could understand if they were busy but, they weren’t. It was totally unacceptable.
Went for set menu and wine pairings. Pretty expensive for what you get. Food was good not great.
Superb food and service with the advantage of the outdoor shows
I’ve eaten at this restaurant quite a lot but I’m not fond of the recent menu changes and higher prices
The food and service were great, however, we were on a date night for my birthday and our table was wedged between two different families with toddlers who arrived after we did. I was expecting a little more from a wine bar where we spend almost $200 for dinner. The kids near us were screaming and one of them broke a plate. When I looked over to see what the commotion was (I didn't even say anything), the mother of one of the children gave me a dirty look and told me to "chill out, kids can't help it." while I understand that you can't discriminate based on age, maybe you can seat them accordingly as not to disrupt those who are trying to relax?? If we wanted to deal with screaming kids and their rude parents, we would have gone to Cheesecake Factory... Thanks for the good wine, food and service though.
We were a party of four. There was a major language barrier with our waiters even though we’ve lived in Hawaii for 30 yrs. This was our 5th time dining here. Last night was a total disappointment. We were entertaining good friends from the mainland, their first visit to Hawaii. The waiters were not only incompetent, we had to flag them down, and there was a complete language barrier. Our second bottle of wine was put down onto our table but never opened. I was ready to search out a corkscrew to open it myself. When pouring our wine the wait help did not finish pouring out our two well priced bottles of wine, leaving wine in the bottles. The waiter completely missed portions of our order. We were never offered salt or pepper, for our salads nor were we asked if we would like to order anything else. We had to ask twice for our check.
This is unfortunate as the food is tasty and overall good, but we will most likely not be back again.
We sometimes seen our waiter, not as often as we would like. I knw it was a little busy. The tables were to close together, bathroom (mens) a little dirty, missing hooks, toilet too small. Waited a little long for the entrees, but seating was pretty quick.
The restaurant’s outdoor dining area in the courtyard of the Royal Hawaiian hotel is a calm oasis in Waikiki. A favorite dining spot of ours. Our service was great. Good Italian food.
Use to be a great spot with close to authentic Italian food. Went back two years later and the service was absolutely terrible. The server was trying his best, but he was unorganized, flustered, and very awkward. He appeared to be in training. The food had also declined over the years. We felt unattended too.
Everything was beautifully decorated for Valentine’s Day. A good crowd, very festive. Food and service were very good. We would go to Il Lupino again.
We arrived 10 minutes late for our reservation due to traffic. Our reservation was deleted from their system and we were nearly turned away. Thankfully the hostess worked us back into our table. It was frustrating because we could see there were many open tables. The food was okay but was overpriced and not memorable. Our waiter must have been relatively new and at times the service was slow, but he was congenial and made a good wine recommendation.
Overall a very good meal. Service was good but not great.
Great restaurant with great food and service.
The ambience and location is great. They have a hard time accommodating changes to food items - like adding vegetables to a dish. I added veggies to my pasta and it made it taste like an Asian stir fry instead of an Italian pasta dish.
The atmosphere here is lovely especially if the weather is good (which it is almost always) choose to sit on the patio. They have a phenomenal extensive wine list. Our waiter was great and really made up for the lack of flavor in the dinner course. Garlic bread appetizer was subpar esp for this restaurants outward and inward style. The manager was delightful and walked the floor a couple times during our dining experience. The host bright and friendly. Basically was I thrilled with the quality of food, no I’ve had much better. Would I go back and give it another try, yes.
The best meal we had on Oahu this week. We will be back
We love this restaurant and visit at least once when we are in Waikiki. Unfortunately last night the timing was off due to the wine that I ordered. After 2 people trying to locate it we were told they were out if it. By then we had finished our appetizer and the main was being served (ahead of our salad). To compensate they brought us a very nice assortment of meats and cheeses but we were so full we had to bag it up and bring it home. Nice gesture on their part and overall the food was still very good and we will be back.
IL Lupino is one of our favorite restaurants in Waikiki and always the first one we visit when we arrive. We are so happy that gnocchi is back on the menu!
Thank you so much yesterday. We was very fun and delicious !! We had a nice time. When I come back to Hawaii, I'll be back here!
Average food. They were out of 3 wines on the wild list, but didn’t tell us until we ordered them. Pricey for the quality of food.
The food and the ambience was wonderful. However the bar staff and the waitstaff have no clue as to what they were doing. Had to get the manager involved personally took care of our table. This was our second visit and the first visit was exactly the same.
Service was efficient and personal.
It was ok not, service was just ok.
This I was last time to go there.
Normally a great place for us to dine. Our last visit was not as good. We asked that our food not come out all at once bacause we ordered five different items to be shared. The second dish came out too soon. We weren’t even half way through the first dish. Teice we asked the server for silver ware and it was obvious she was not going to get some for us since her job was to just serve the food. That was strictly our waiters job. So we sat there with our food until the waiter noticed we had no silver ware. He did bring some and piled it in a bunch all on our left side. We dine out most nights and know silverware is normally put out before dishes come out.
Good: Margherita pizza, Octopus appetizer
Bad: Uni Pasta,Caesar salad, Red Snapper Piccata
the food and service were excellent ! appetizers were great and original .... :)
Slow service. Ordered 2 tagliatelle dishes. They substituted linguini without telling us that they were out of tagliatelle. Totally wrong! Will never go there again and will not recommend to friends.
It was my daughters 21st for which she got no recognition food was delicious service apauling 35 minute wait for a glass of wine😩
Extremely poor service and extremely disappointing tasteless food. The only good thing was the Cesar Salad and the Prosecco.
Avoid the pastas - even my 9 year old can make better sauces. Actually, avoid this restaurant if possible at all.
While the food was good, the dinner had an almost comical number of glitches that made for an unsatisfying dining experience. These included: being told immediately by the waiter that virtually half the menu items were out of stock; being served a warm bottle of water and needing to wait until it cooled off; the gnocchi we ordered did not come with any chicken as requested; it took 20 minutes to receive the correct silverware for seafood; it took a long time for the waiter and even one of the hostesses to clarify allergens.
We were the lucky ones. There was a family at the table next to us that had been seated before us whose food had not yet arrived by the time we were leaving.
Fantastic food and service. We must have had the best waiter ever because we so enjoyed everything about Lupinos as we remembered it from 5 years ago. So thank you Royce!!! Thanks also to all your peers (and manager) who combined to make this a memorable experience again. Wine selections are incredibly deep and some do not have the normal 50-100% markup. Outside seating looked nice too but it was a little humid despite the January date. Mahalo!
The service was amazing, and the food was incredible
The food is delicious but the customer service was seriously lacking. We had to wait 40 mins past our reservation time to get seated, over an hour to get our food and when brought up to management not a care was given. Beware when going here.
We had been to this restaurant numerous times on dates. The food is excellent. I wanted a romantic date for New Year's Eve. You can either be seated in house or outside on their terrace, with a beautiful view of the grounds in front of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and the beautiful Christmas tree, there. I asked for outside, under an umbrella for two, away from children. They had already changed our table once.
However, we found our selves seated near a table with two children. To be fair, they were pretty well behaved. However, as the meal progressed we found ourselves surrounded with 4 tables of children. The adult next to us thought it was a brilliant idea to give the little fellow a truck. Needless to say, he used the table for his race track. He also thought it was a fun idea to keep poking the waitress in the rear whenever she went passed, to get her attention. He wasn't corrected by the adult and the poor waitress was professional enough to smile and take it in stride.
It was anything but a romantic ambiance. I have children of my own. It would have been nice if the parents had taken the time and gotten baby sitters, in advance, in consideration of the rest of us, who were willing to pay for a special night, together.
