It’d hard to rate their food when they keep running out of it. Twice we have gone there and they ran out of their squid ink pasta, their bland replacement wasn’t comparable. Which is really a shame because it was delicious the first of three times we went. Their cappuccino machine is still out of order and they ran out of desserts. The apologetic hostess was the nicest thing about the restaurant and a sharp contrast to the snappy management. Horribly managed, but delicious food when you can get it.
Wish we had read more reviews and chosen another restaurant. One hour 20 minutes to get food. Walk-ins went ahead to outdoor patio, we had to sit inside even though reservation had been made. Problem with not enough waiters they said. Had to go up to kitchen area to see if our order was put in. Waiter non existent. Food so so. Bad experience. This place appears to be having many problems, staff not showing up, poor training etc.
Food was good. Service was uneven. Some of the apps came out with the entrees.
Great service and amazing food. Highly recommended
No pizza, no clam pasta, no Happy Hour because it was a 'holiday' No asking if we wanted another drink nor coffee with dessert. WE had to ask for dessert even.
Very nice Italian restaurant. Excellent service. Great food.
I was truly disappointed on this luncheon visit. We had 12:45 reservations for Father's Day. The restaurant ran out of numerous dishes that we wanted and was advertised on the menu. These items were the basic items like eggplant parmesan, lasagna, a fish lunch special. After the 4th attempt to order a dish we complained and they did make an exception and substituted a fish that wasn't on the original menu. I've been there for dinner several times, and never had a problem before. It was sad to see the guest of honor so disappointed that they actually picked up food from elsewhere on the way home.
Service: wait staff was not attentive. Waited around 15 minutes before they took our order. Then we waited another hour and 15 minutes for a pizza, an order of the crab pasta, and some roasted broccoli. Then waited another 10 minutes to get our check.
Food: was not worth the wait.
Overall: Go to Taormina instead. Same area in Waikiki, similar cost, better service, better food.
Nico was fantastic. He had a lot of tables but did great.
The lamb chops n gnocchi was delicious.
Father’s Day lunch. No lasagna due to “lasagna chef” not showing up for work. We had wait 20 minutes before we had to flag our waiter down just to order glasses of wine. But wait, it got better. After waiting for them to pick the grapes for the glasses of wine we had to flag down our waiter yet again and ask him if we could place our food order. He took the order from my wife and I then left without taking food orders for the rest of the table?!?!? After flagging him down yet again he was nice enough to take the rest of the tables food orders. Needless to say our food arrived first and we finished it before anyone else’s entrees arrived. Only thing we didn’t have to flag down our waiter for was the check. That showed up promptly.
The food was terrible and took so long. We love coming to this restaurant every time we come to Hawaii so this was a huge disappointment. The pizza tasted like frozen digornio, the calamari was so soggy, and the croutons on our salad tasted stale. When we told what seemed like a lady manager we were unhappy she seemed to make excuses, which made us feel like we were an inconvenience. Our waiter was friendly. As someone who is in customer service and is very understanding and patient, I am very disappointed.
Reserved for 11:15 for lunch on Fathers Day 6/20/21. Arrived @ 11am and was seated in 10 minutes. waited for 15 mins for waiter to come & give water. @ 11:40 we gave him our order waited 45 minutes for our salad & Meatballs. other tables that came in late got their orders & we were wondering where is ours. Also, another table with kids did not get their food as well! It's now 1:45pm no manager or server comes to check our table. My husband was so upset and talk to the receptionist yet nothing was done! We left upset and worst experience ever!
Worst. Dining. Experience. Ever. Apparently the cook staff either quit or was coming in whenever they wanted to. Hostess sat us and left it up to the waiter to tell us they had no pasta. Unbelievable! When I questioned further I found out pasta chef was not there. What?! You are an Italian restaurant, aren’t you?! Waited over an hour for food. Told waiter to box the food as we no longer wanted to wait. Fortunately our pizzas were ready when we reached the end of our patience. An hour and a half later we were driving home with pizzas in boxes. Horrible Father’s Day experience. And they had the nerve to charge us full price for everything, including drinks and a salad that arrived warm and over seasoned. Inedible. Never again. (And this was our second time trying to eat here. Two weeks earlier they had a gas line break and notified us 15 minutes before our reservation “not to come because there was no food.” This was after we drove from the west side of the island to eat there.) I should not have given them a second chance. I will relate this experience to everyone I know on the island. Shame on them.
Father’s Day-Birthday Combo… gone wrong. We were originally given the wrong menu multiple times until we were finally given the breakfast menu which they didn’t have most of the items. They were clearly understaffed and the staff they did have was underprepared and presented a lack of communication and training. We were they for two hours because of how long it took to receive the food. We saw multiple guests leave the restaurant after the poor service. Once our food finally arrived, it was horrible. The “side of bacon” was a single piece that was thicker than the French toast, which was covered in Nutella that we did not order. The pancakes we ordered were somehow simultaneously burnt and raw. The side of fruit was $15 but looked like something a toddler would make for their mom that you eat out of pity. The only thing the restaurant had going for it was mediocre whipped cream. They did comp us for some of the food because they realized the experience was subpar.
Nice atmosphere for dinner with your significant other. Hostesses and waitstaff were very nice, too. Bruschetta and king crab pasta were both fresh and tasty, but nothing exceptional. Price is about 25% higher than it should be, even for Waikiki. Service was a little slower than expected, but nothing really to complain about there.
AVOID this place. They don’t care about their guests, and the food is not worth the price. The rest of my party had their food for 20 minutes before the waiter asked if I wanted a plate in order to share my husband’s pizza. I reminded him that I’d ordered linguini with clams. Lightbulb goes on! Well, they must’ve sent somebody out to harvest the clams because it was another 15 minutes until my meal arrived. I expected the manager to come by and make apologies or comp the entree, but no. What do they care? They only cater to tourists and don’t need repeat business. Dine there at your own risk.
Worst "fine dining" experience we've EVER had. The restaurant obviously doesn't understand what fine dining means. We have dined at Il Lupino many times when visiting Waikiki. It used to be one of our favorites. NOT ANY LONGER. We will NEVER dine there again!!!! We arrived at 7:30pm, ordered a glass of Chardonnay to have while reviewing the menu. They didn't have the wine on the menu so brought their house wine for the same price $22 a glass, first strike. The waiter rushed us to put in order claiming kitchen was running behind. We ordered the food a Caesar salad as an appetizer than both order pasta for dinner. The salad was delivered promptly then after only a few bites of the salad they delivered the pasta as well, strike 2. Do they not understand FINE DINING??? Clearly the kitchen was NOT running behind, the waiter lied so he could rush us out and turn the table more quickly. You pay a PREMIUM for a restaurant like Il Lupino. If we wanted FAST FOOD we would have gone to Burger King. We told the waiter to take the food away we were not ready for the main course. He became very belligerent. We told him forget the pasta we would pay only for the salad and wine then leave. After paying and leaving NO TIP he told us "Don't come back", strike 3...... we are done with Il Lupino.
We received exceptional service combined with delicious food. The fresh pasta and salads are terrific.
Beautiful patio. Live Hawaiiian show in front of the patio, which was nice. They seem to have a great happy hour menu but we missed it. Our server was very professional, polished and attentive. Little pricey but the service and atmosphere made the experience. Our calamari was chewy, and garlic bread was pretty bland. Lacked butter and garlic. Our Caesar salad and margherita pizza were perfect. Though the pizza took a little while. We will be back
Great atmosphere!! Decent food. Waiter was a little slow, but it was a busy night
Wait staff was horribly awkward. Our waiter actually told us he would combine our service with the couple seated next to us because we were seated at the same time. This made for a comical experience as one of our dishes was actually delivered and eaten by the neighboring guests. The pizza was decent but everything else had little taste. Had high hopes for this place but this was one of our least favorite dining experience in Waikiki.
Waiter was rude
Overall it was an adequate place to dine. The food was good, presented well and the waiter was outstanding! The bald guy at the front desk didn't really care about a request to sit outside.. 60/40 was his response.. jerk.. Just an issue that I never experienced... be aware that if you order a drink "on the rocks" (which is ice) you will be charged an extra three dollars. You will also be charged $7 for tap water. Yes, it was delivered in a bottle with no sealed cap and obvious tap water.
The location and ambiance is beautiful.
However the place just shows to be an upscale restaurant but do not have either the quality of service or quality of food for being a great high end Italian place.
Food quality is horrible. We ordered mushroom spinach pizza and it had no sauce or seasoning. Super bland and the crust was not even cooked well.
A side of roasted vegetables was also ordered and after waiting for about 30 minutes we received steamed vegetables. At the time of order, the server told us that vegetables included carrots, asparagus and broccoli. What came was two florets of broccoli and 6 carrots which were steamed with again no seasoning whatsoever, not even salt. And this side was $17. Total rip off! When I asked the server that these vegetables are just steamed and not roasted his response was that this is how we make roasted vegetables.
The service was also very poor. While ordering, our server suggested we order an appetizer as pizza takes time to come. However our pizzas came right after the appetizer and was cold. Our side of veggies and gnocchi entree took so long to come that we had finished our pizza. And the server took forever to bring the check and pack the leftovers.
I suggest do not waste your money for poor service and low quality food. There are plenty of other Italian restaurants in the area to go for.
First and last time we will come here for Italian food.
It was ok. That’s all I got for this review. Not bad not good. Just ok
Food was cold and service was unusually slow even after inquiring several times ....
The host was extremely rude and insisted that she doesn’t see our reservation. Even though the the restaurant was empty, she didn’t offer us a table, we had to ask if she would seat us. When we finally got seated, the menu didn’t look very appealing and the prices were ridiculously high even for Waikiki. I work at an upscale restaurant in the same mall and often dine in other places around there and Il Lupino was certainly the worst experience so far.
There is a reason why they have a lot of opening. Horrible service. We waited for 20 mins and all we got is water and it’s not like the place was busy. There were about 4-5 occupied tables. Our server gave us the menus and wouldn’t make eye contact as we tried to get his attention while he was on the tables near us. The bartender who was walking around also did not want to take/give a message to the server that we are ready to place drinks and starters. We got up and left to eat at Wolfgangs.
What a great find. We were there during happy hour pricing, also. Great view outside and show in the garden area while we ate. Excellent place we will be back next time in Hawaii.
Loved it! Fantastic service. Wish we didn’t have to pay for the water but food was delicious.
Overall experience was good do get the French 75, it’s a must!!! The order the garlic bread you may get your entrees before it arrives. Dessert was great, ambience even better!
By far, one of the best foods on the island.
We went to IL Lupino for dinner which was very nice. The server was very attentive he tried to upsell us several times for more food, but we weren’t that hungry so we resisted his attempts to buy more than we wanted. The restaurant was hot and humid. The thing that bothered us the most however was when we got the bill there was a $7. charge for still water. The water was tap water, it wasn’t even cold. I’m sure it was a management decision to charge people for ordinary tapwater, I know things are expensive in Hawaii, but no other restaurant charged us for water. I feel like this was really gouging the tourist. Shame on them.
Great carpaccio and loved the gluten free pasta.
The evening started by a greeting from Melania Trump-no greeting at all. We were then ignored for 30 minutes when the manager adored other guests who had arrived after and were not waiting long. I interrupted and said we had been waiting for 30 minutes and the bald pig, said “ and you are still patient?” Didn’t offer anything to make up for the already bad experience. Our waiter rushed over and was all nervous, didn’t offer specials..and was attentive for the time being but once order was taken and check was delivered, was never to be seen. The food was extremely bland unlike any Italian I’ve ever had- it wasn’t even worth half the price paid. This was by far the worst meal we’ve had in Waikiki our entire trip and I want everyone to avoid the mistake we made- do not support this poor service and disrespectful managed restaurant. This experience almost ruined my whole vacation-stay away! It’s really too bad , we wanted to try Wolfgang’s steakhouse but the chef already took too much of our money for the terrible experience in return.
Great ambiance, bland food with tiny portions (that one I’m thankful for)
The host was collapsing before our eyes - out of his depth and with limited waiters and servers we weren’t seated as booked and it was 2 hours before we ate.
If you eat here, don't sit in the patio's middle table... no one claims it so no service!
The Ono was great.
The white wine arrived warm
The pasta was mushy
making a reservation was very difficult
The location next to the Sheraton and the Royal Hawaiian is very convenient
Our meals arrived before the appetizer was finished
We would return hoping that the issues we had were COVID capacity related.
