Nice food with nice staff. Good house wine!
Bday great place
This was one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. My event was a surprise birthday party for my wife, so let's start with the fact that they have no phone number to use to set up some things like someone who couldn't be there wanting to send a bottle of wine to the table. The (917) number they show is phony. It's apparently the number of someone who set up their website. You call it, and then you get an auto generated text that says: "You were calling Il Forno. How can I help you?" If you answer, you get another text saying: "Can you please explain your question is correct spelling?" When you answer that, you get another auto generated response. If you go to their website and fill out a contact form, it goes unanswered.
The manger was rude and incompetent. That's putting it mildly/
There were six of us. When the entrees were served, five of us received their dinners. Nothing was said about the sixth. After waiting and waiting, someone was flagged down and sent our waiter over (who had not actually served the food). He said, "let me check," and we waited again. And waited. Finally he came back with the entree, 20 minutes after everyone else had been served. Was there any type of apology? Nope. Not a word.
Now lets talk about the food. I ordered veal Milanese. Not only did it look like the sole of a shoe, it tasted like a imagine a sole would taste like. Dry would be an understatement, and tough as leather. Two in the party ordered the salmon, medium rare. It was served well done and again, dry as a bone.
On a positive note, the rolls and butter were very good.
DO NOT GO TO THIS HORRIBLE PLACE.
The food was very good. We were seated 25 minutes after our reservation time which really dampened the the experience. They made it better by taking our orders before we were seated to ensure we'd make our show. It would've been nice to have time for dessert & coffee but we needed to leave.
It was all very nice. Great food!
Great restaurant and will go back again. Thank you.
It took us 45 minute to be seated, the hostess did not apologize, seemed like she didn’t care. The four of us finally got crammed into a tiny table. The food was okay not worth the wait.
Always a good pre theater dinner at a good price level
Nice atmosphere and good service. A nice place. Food was good enough. Not outstanding but good enough.
We had an excellent 3 course meal, the food was delicious and the service was impeccable would throughly recommend
Pasta dishes were great, was done well with good flavors
We had 6:30 reservations before an 8:00 show just two blocks away. When we arrived at 6:30
The place was packed and there were four parties waiting in front of us - all with reservations. The hostess told us it wouldn’t be long and so waited. And waited. Finally at 6:55 she told us it would be another 15 min At least because the closest any four top Was to Being done was the table that just asked for a dessert menu. At this point we left and were left with extremely limited options for dinner before a three hour show. Highly disappointed.
Pro: Excellent spaghetti pomodora with meatballs. Great location for a dinner pre-Broadway show. Good wine list, very good bread, water service.
Con: Waited 30 minutes for seat after reservation time. Confusion at the hostess station. Not enough space for customers to queue and wait.
Would have been 5 stars if the door/hostess situation was managed well.
Great experience: reservation was perfect-customer service-Great menu-friendly-Professional waiter....
great prices ..... check it out !!!
We made a reservation and were seating right away! The food was delicious. This place is so close to all of the Broadway theaters, so it is ideal for eating right before or after a show.
Very courteous staff near Broadway theatre. Excellent place to meet people.
Il Forno was exactly what we wanted for a pre-theater meal. The decor gives a feel of a side street in Italy, the service was impeccable, the meal delicious and, considering its location in the Broadway area, the prices extremely reasonable. I will recommend Il Forno to friends.
We had a 6:15 reservation as we had 8pm theater tickets. We waited more than 30 minutes to be seated, so we were stressed and standing in a tight entryway holding our coats. Others with similar reservations had the same stressful wait. The waiter was lovely and charming and the service was good, but the hostess had no handle on the situation, and nothing was offered (a glass of wine?) to help!
Excellent food and outstanding service. The wait staff made sure we made our play on time! Can’t wait to go back.
We booked this spot because we had tickets to Evan Hansen (AMAZING) and didn't want to risk being late. Food is just okay--I ordered chicken marsala and found the sauce to bit a bit off. My vegetables seemed like they were the frozen mixed veg you get in freezer section at grocery store. Overall, nothing stood out, but prices were decent, our server was fast and friendly, and we made it to show in plenty of time. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really need to be in that area, though.
Had a wonderful dinner post show. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was absolutely fantastic and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.
Excellent appetizers and the service was so friendly and on-point! Pasta was great too... but appetizers win for best 👍
Great Theatre District restaurant..food always good with friendly service
This is a good restaurant but on this night they were really busy and we weren’t seated until 35 minutes after our reservation time of 6:15 making our meal a bit rushed to make our show time and no time to consider dessert or a coffee. . Also did not have our first two wine choices that were on the menu. Wait staff and hostess were excellent and did the best they could with the situation.
Great place great food great environment!!
Wonderful lunch place, not crowded, excellent salads and entrees
Il Forno was recommended by the hotel staff of where we were staying when in NYC. We were there 5 days and we went for dinner there our first and last evening of our trip. Highly recommend this place! Food and staff were great!
Fin de año
New year dinner. The restaurant was kind enough to hold our reservation. Because it was New Years there were lots of streets closed. The food was excellent, we had a big group, and food was prompt. My only complaint is that the place was really packed, I got hit multiple times. Overall, I loved the place, the food, the service and the location I will be back when it’s less packed.
If you’re looking for a quaint Italian restaurant, this is definitely the place. The waiters are friendly and prompt.
We went for an early dinner after a matinee. We got there right before the mad rush. Ours a good place to go after a show for decent Italian food. Two servers in the restaurant so don’t expect personal service.
We had a reservation for 6 at 6:30 pm. We got there at 6:15 and they had the reservation but they told us to wait until 6:30. Understandable as our reservation was for 6:30. There were many people outside grumbling that they had reservations as well but no tables were ready. At 6:30 they told us it would be at least 30 minutes, and that they would call us when the table was ready. By 8 pm they still hadn't called, so we ate somewhere else.
Food was good.
Had a 7:45 reservation, were told that we would be seated approx 10 minutes after reservation time as our table was still occupied. After this, we were asked if we wanted a different table. When we said no we’d take the table we were promised we were then informed that this table was being given to a party that had been waiting since 7:30. Not a problem to wait, but it would have been good to know that a party of our same size would need to be seated before us before waiting an additional 10 minutes, and it would have been more courteous to tell us that the table needed to be given to this party rather than framing it as a choice rather than a given. After eventually being seated, one of our waiters ignored requests for a plate to share food and I needed to go up to the main bar to get my own share plate. Not the end of the world in terms of poor service, but I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone in the future
Great food and good service. Went there with friends and had a very nice lunch
We were seated around 7:10 p.m. with a 6:30 reservation. Though the ambiance is charming and the main dishes we ordered were good, it was hard to recover from the unexpected 40-minute wait to sit down. The wait staff seemed unconcerned with the delay and then not particularly interested in our dining experience. We were not offered a refill on a drink or so much as a roll while we waited for our entrees. We won't be back.
5 of us shared 4 apps and all were great. All happy with the quality and portion size of the main courses. Service was exceptional. Food came out quickly but we never felt rushed despite a never ending line of people trying to get in. Highly recommend for a pre-show dinner.
Best Italian wedding soup I ever had, great service and warm staff. Worth every penny of ny prices.
Pros: accommodating hostess, decent food. . Cons: inattentive service, thumping music from bar next door, less than sparkling bathrooms.
Nice place to eat, in between shows. Reservations recommended. Pizza's are amazing!!!
