   We celebrated our family member's birthday with dinner at Il Fornaio, Burlingame and we are so glad we did. The beautiful flower boxes outside that adorned the exterior really set the mood and the hostess who sat our party of 9 was friendly and welcoming. Our wonderful server, Bella, was attentive, professional and friendly. She, along with other staff members, made sure we had everything we needed, and our glasses were always filled. Water, adult beverages, wine, appetizers, table bread and main courses were all served with precise timing. We ordered multiple dishes so that we can share our meals family style. Our compliments to the Chef as every dish was delicious. Seafood Misto, Pizzas, Pastas, Lasagna, Calamari, Bruschetta, all wonderfully prepared. Bella brought out the cake that we had brought with us along with the candles lit and ready for celebration. Topped off the evening with several coffees, cappuccinos and affogatos. Thank you Bella, and all the staff who worked extremely hard, to make our family celebration special.

   So disappointed. We used to love Il Fornaio. Our waitress, Aurora, was awful. She seemed overwhelmed when serving us. She insisted on taking our order her way. She literally could not take the entire order at once and said she would bring us the drinks first after she was already halfway thru taking the dinner order. She brought the food and made us wait until she brought everyone's food to bring the parmesan cheese or utensils that were missing. Meanwhile the food was getting cold as we waited for the cheese and extra utensils. When Aurora came to pick up our plates at the end, my Dad told her he could not eat the salmon because it was so dry. It really was dry. Instead of her taking it off the receipt, she brought him a "new piece of salmon" even though we had all finished eating, including my Dad. What we we supposed to do with this "new piece of salmon?" Terrible terrible service. My Mom and sister ordered the scallops with risotto. Instead of the traditional creamy risotto, it was like a black rice with no flavor. Needless to say, my Mom and sister were disappointed. Very surprising as we always like this restaurant. Does not seem to be the same as it was before. Also, why no polenta? Why no veal scallopini?

   I have been happily having lunch with friends at this restaurant for years. However, after Covid, the new menu was understandably scaled back. I hadn't eaten here in about 5 months, and to my disappointment, I found that the lunch menu had been significantly reduced. If you don't want a heavy pasta or pizza, there are very limited options available. The delicious chicken salad has been removed, and they now only offer a couple of simple salads with add-ons. Adding chicken to the plain salad costs an extra $13, bringing the total to $30. In a town with an overwhelming selection of good restaurants, we have decided to take our business elsewhere. The pizza we ended up having was truly disappointing. Mine was lukewarm at best, as if it had been sitting there as a reject. It's time to find a new place to dine.

   The waiter was amazing! Best service we have ever had there made. My daughter feel very special for her birthday. Very attentive and went above and beyond.

   We really enjoyed our dinner. Excellent appetizers, excellent entrees and delicious beverages. Karla was pleasant and very attentive. I look forward to coming back and sampling other menu items.

    I have eaten at a couple different Il Fornaio locations recently. I can honestly say the quality of the food has decreased over the last few years. I had mushy pasta dish the other night. They were kind enough to replace it but it was not much better and the dish lacked taste and flavor. In the past, i never had to ask for pasta to be Al Dente when i went any of the IlFornaio Restaurants, but it is obvious that they have abandoned the tradition of providing authentic Italian food and quality. Not to mention providing the variety of breads, which was its origin, the restaurant was famous for.
