Il Cortile Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Don't miss the polenta with black truffles! The dish also has a poached egg but the rich, creamy polenta with the earthy elegance of shavings of black truffles was "off the charts." The wild boar ragu was delicious as well. The only 'miss' was the Osso Bucco made with pork shank instead of veal/beef - of course, the controversy around veal is understood but the dish didn't deliver the rich flavors that it usually carries.
Outstanding food and service as always. Unfortunately, there was a table of screeching young women that were disturbing what otherwise would have been a quiet, romantic dinner. We waited too long to complain to the hostess, but she immediately addressed the situation.
We went to Il Cortile on a recommendation from Carriage Vineyards B&B and were not disappointed. The wine was excellent (Thacher - Constant Variable) and food was awesome. Try the lobster ravioli. Service was over the top. We highly recommend and will definitely come back when we are in the area.
Our first time here. Now it moves to our #1 in Paso. Food was fresh and perfectly prepared - grilled octopus starter with a sort of vege ratatouille underneath. Rack of lamb perfectly prepared with spinach and some roasted organic local sweet potato - ample entre to split after a starter. Excellent service and a mix of local and Italian wines. It's not a large place but
not too noisy and only one slightly obnoxious table where one guy had perhaps done too much wine tasting,
Ambiance: This is a small restaurant and it is pretty loud. My husband and I were seated in the worst possible seat in the restaurant. It was one of those half booths where you are sitting against a wall and the people next to you are SO close you might as well be sitting with the people next to you. We also were at the seat that is right next to the kitchen. I asked to move and they did move us to another table after a little while so things were better after that.
Food. The food was good but I was strongly discouraged from making any changes to my desired item. I guess the chef doesn't like to change the dishes but there is such a thing as personal preferences. I think that the diner should be allowed to make small modifications according to likes and dislikes.
Service. The service was actually the best part. Our waiter was very nice and he gave us a good wine recommendation.
Wine list. There is a very good wine list mostly including Italian wines and local Paso Robles wines. There are many more choices for bottles and less options for wines by the glass.
Here are my recommendations to the restaurant if they choose to read my review:
1) If possible, get a larger space for this restaurant. It felt very cramped and noisy and the people waiting for tables were just standing in the restaurant with nowhere to sit.
2) get rid of that 2 person half booth by the kitchen. Use the extra space to add a few inches between the other half booths against the wall. Trust me, no one who sits in that seat has a good experience so why have it?
3) offer more wines by the glass for those of us who don't drink a whole bottle but still want to drink a nice wine.
4) Encourage your chef to be a little more open minded to modifications in the menu items
5) consider making a homemade gluten-free pasta? Maybe one item on the menu for some of the gluten-sensitive?
Great Italian food with attentive service. The menu was creative and the food delicious. Enjoyed the beef carpaccio with the parmesan fondue and the branzino was perfectly prepared over risotto. Pasta is made fresh. The wine list was good but they also allowed outside wines with a minimal corking fee. Dinner was so good we came back the next night.
We invited our friends fro Hawaii to join us on a wine tasting trip to Paso Robles and made reservations for Il Cortile after looking at reviews/ratings. The food was fabulous and lived up to the recommendations of others. The only slightly negative issue was that it was super crowded with a line out the door (great for their business but a bit noisy for our preferences).
Everything about II Cortile Ristorante was terrific, from the beginning; Hostess, Server and Chef /staff great job. The Osso Bucco was so flavorful and tender it was done just right not over filling, my Husband had the rack of lamb and loved it. I would recommend this restaurant as a must.
Food was spectacular as was the service. The tables for 2 were a little too close together. Hard to get in and out as seat against the wall was a continuance bench. Really hard to have any conversation without next table hearing everything and you hearing everything next table had to say
Everything in the restaurant was pretty amazing. It was weird that they didn’t have any soft drinks. I don’t drink any alcohol and their non-alcoholic beverage selection was minimal. Also, the dishes they served although absolutely amazing all were missing vegetables. They make you buy them separately for $5 which I think is a little off putting. Other than that the place is great.
We've been to Il Cortile before and couldn't wait to return. We were celebrating a birthday and had a wonderful experience! The prosciutto and melon starter was amazing - gluten/dairy free. We loved the rack of lamb, too. The food and service are fantastic!
An outstanding dinner to begin a marvelous weekend in the wine country. We started off with insalata caprese and a bottle of wine. The heirloom tomatoes and fresh mozzarella melted in your mouth. The service was attentive but never pushing to turn the table. After dinner we were able to enjoy each other's company while holding hands and finishing our wine. The atmosphere was lively but the acoustics in the restaurant were so good never did we have to shout to hear each other. If you're looking for Italian don't go anywhere else. This place cannot be beat.
Food was very good, the service was a little slow, however our waiter was as attentive and pleasant as the crowded circumstances allowed. It was obvious that they weren't expecting such a full house on a Wednesday evening or they were short handed. The table where we sat was a little too close to the bar, where people were standing two to three deep, and they were leaning against one of our party's chair and knocking into her....was uncomfortable at times. I think the outdoor seating provides a more intimate setting.
I would definitely return for the food!
