Il Cortile Restaurant
We are a full Service Restaurant Establishment offering both A-La-Carte dining and a wide variety of pre-fix menus for group gatherings as well as off premise catering. We can accommodate gluten free and vegan diets. Everything is made to order.
Even with an Open Table reservation, we had to wait almost 45 minutes to be seated. Once we were seated, the service was great and so was the food. I thought it was reasonably priced for what you were served. I would go again..
We arrived and were told our table was not ready. We had 2 handicapped elderly people in the party. We were asked to move to bar which required 2 sets of stairs. We were there about 3 minutes when we were told our table was ready, which required us to navigate back through the starts to the front of the restaurant. Poor logistics on the hostess. Service was very spotty and our food came out in shifts which did not make for a great experience. 3 pasta dishes came out, then 1 fish dish, then 1 chicken dish and then a veal dish. This was over a 15+ minute span. One person in our party was already done with their meal before the last meal even arrived. Our waiter was very nice but he clearly had too many large tables as we did not see him again until it was time to pay the bill. The bus boy attempted to take away the last diners meal when he was not done, just took it right out from under him. Food was good. Unfortunately the service made for a not so great experience.
Not what it was in the past when it was outstanding and one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. Where do I start? Well how about the service which was practically non-existent. You had to wave down a waiter to get service. The top of our table moved and was not flat. After repeatedly telling waiters, managers, and bus boys no one fixed it. We were resigned to being very careful as to how we ate so as to not upend it. The food was mediocre at best not what it was in the past. When it finally arrived. The insalata tre colore had no vinegar in it just oil. The orders were all screwed up. My brother ordered rigatoni in vodka sauce and out came the rigatoni in fra diavolo sauce. We didn't say anything because it would have taken a half hour to get it replaced! Such a disappointment. This jewel of a restaurant has degenerated to being a has been.
Not good for mother daughter dinner. Very little “service” to it. Bread in basket was all cold. One meal too dry one too wet. Waited 50 minutes for main course for two dinners. Extremely hot in the back dining room.
Always fabulous!!! Never disappoints!!
Beautiful restaurant in the heart of Little Italy. Highly recommend. The food was amazing, especially the “Sunday Sauce.” Service was great. Can’t go wrong here!
One of our family favorites when we visit the city. It’s becoming a tradition to eat here every visit. The food is always so fresh and delicious, friendly staff and excellent ambiance.
We have a soft-spot in our hearts for Il Cortile from long ago, but our recent visit was a disappointment. We were refused garden seating because it "being set up and held for a large party" yet when we left there were individual couples dining a individual tables. The baked clams at $2/throw were the tiniest of clams. My Chicken Rolatine was distractingly over-salted - it'd have gone back if I didn't want to eat separately from my wife. We were overcharged for the clams.
Great food and service
Best Italian outside of Italy. Hands down. Il Cortile is always my go-to spot in NYC.
very nice cozy place, good Italian food, friendly service, will come back
Even we made a reservation, our waiting time was 1 hour
We are in town and saw great reviews of this place. The reviews were correct! You feel like you are ion Italy! Food was great!
Wonderful! Food was amazing!!
We have been dining at Il Cortile since our first date in 1983. Loved it then, love it still.
Superior experience all around with extra special attention to memorable details!
My meal came out a lot later than the other 2 people I was with
Amazing food and service. Highly recommend!
Loved the atmosphere as it felt as if we were dining at a restaurant in Rome. The food was delicious. My friends had the branzino with risotto and I had the Neopolitan lemon chicken prepared with eggplant and prosciutto - mouth-watering. The pistachio gelato was divine. All in all, a great dining experience. Would definitely return.
This is a hidden gem that is just one block up from the tourist trap restaurants of Little Italy. Such fantastic food, ambiance and service!
Haven't been to Il Cortile for about 8-10 years but wanted an Italian place in NYC and thought we'd try it again. Just like last time we weren't disappointed. Food was excellent. Service was attentive and excellent as well. Will definitely go back (but won't wait 8 years like last time). HIGHLY RECOMMEND>
Try to est here every NYC trip we make. Great food and real good value.
Classic Little Italy restaurant. Clearly past its prime. Know as the best of what is left in Little Italy. But only rose to mediocre in our experience. Really not worth the schlep to the shrinking area of Italian restaurants.
We love this restaurant and have been back several times. My only complaint is
the "tiny' glass of wine for $12.00. I guess we should have bought a bottle, but
we each wanted a different wine. $24.00 for 2 glasses that should have equalled
one is my only disappointment. Otherwise, food is outstanding and so is the ambiance
We always enjoyed Il Cortile but I think we picked a bad night. there was a extremely very loud wedding going on in their garden room. There was a DJ and a singer. The entire restaurant was so loud you couldn't have a nice dinner with any conversation. even the waiters complained with us.
very disappointing that night. we will make other plans for dinner if there is an event in the garden room in the future..
Very comfortable local traditional Italian restaurant. Food was good although they mixed up the pasta type that was ordered. We arrived around 5 for dinner which is an early time for dinner so we wondered how things got mixed up since it was not crowded. Of all the restaurant on Mulberry we were happy with our selection of I’ll Cortile
This used to be our favorite restaurant to visit when in NYC. What a HUGE disappointment this time! I RSVPd at least a week ago yet we were seated in the middle of the room so every drunk staggering by hit our table. I finally asked to be seated elsewhere. We moved to a corner near the trash can. Wow! We honestly didn’t know there was a festival that weekend so I’m sure it made things worse! Food was NOT what it used to be. Tasted like sauce from a jar. Chicken Marsala was bland. Our Caesar salads were good. The waiter did his best so can’t fault him given the volume of people rolling in & out. We were celebrating our anniversary. Next time we’ll save the cab fare & pick somewhere in Manhattan! Such a shame.
We went during the San Gennaro Festival, so our experience was probably not the norm. Made a confirmed Open Table reservation for 9:15 for 6, when we got there they said they had no record of it and there were several groups ahead of us that had been waiting for a while. However, they worked with us and seated us outside after about 30 minutes. The ambiance was great during the Festival, the service was good. Food was average. I've had better Chicken Parm at Macaroni Grill. Pasta I tried was decent. One of our party that got the fish said it had turned and refused to eat it. They brought her pasta as a replacement pretty much after we were all done eating.
Not really a great place.
Good not bad in quality, but the seasoning is spicy on all the dishes, which is another way of hiding flavorless.
When in little Italy, you want better
I loved Il Cortile. Food was magnificent and the service was even better! Looking forward to going back soon. Great Location, Great atmospheres... You will Love it!
Food was not that great. Linguine and clams not of high quality. Rigatoni and red sauce - average.
cappuccino was a latte all milk ! Maybe this is a tourist restaurant. Or the level of food goes down during the festival.
Food was delicious but the waiter was terrible..
was there for san gennaro service and food were great!
My own experience aside, I don't think I've seen people treated this poorly in any other restaurant I've ever been to. I understand San Gennaro is a busy time, but I don't think that justifies the abandonment of human decency. Understanding how busy this time of year can be, I did the smart thing, and made a reservation. The meaning of the word "reservation" was another thing Il Cortile abandoned as I waited at the restaurant for over an hour as people with reservation times later than mine (or no reservation at all) were seated ahead of me. I get that things like this, you know, bribes, they happen, but it seemed the only people being seated at all were people who scratched the host's back (both literally and figuratively). The weak-willed host was probably my biggest gripe with the restaurant. The Napoleonic gentleman must've thought he was Saint Januarius the way he was wielding his perceived power. Bribery is all well and good, but the lack of integrity took a disappointing turn when tables were being awarded to female patrons who ingratiated the man's fragile ego with thinly veiled attempts at flirting. Hope the guy found love that night.
It was awesome!
We had a great time, love the table setup!
Omar is a great waiter. Good service and food always
Il Cortile is my go to restaurant when I am in nyc. Have been dining there for years. Food is outstanding
The service was excellent and food was a little better than the avg suburban Italian restaurant. An aggressive tourist trap with great people watching
Food was excellent from the Calamari to the Ragu. Waiter explained that he would be back as he was bringing another tables order out. We were seated right away but did wait some for our drink order. All in all a pleasant experience.
Let me start by saying the service was excellent but that is where the excellence ended. My mother and I had reservations and we needed an extra hour so they kindly extended our reservation. We got there and were warmly greeted and sat immediately outside. Our drink order was taken immediately and I should say the drinks were good. We ordered our food, two pasta dishes, and those came quickly, not too quick, but in a very timely fashion. This is where it goes down hill. My pasta was crunchy, not al dente, as I am a seasoned cook and know the difference, it was also cold, it was terrible. My mother’s angel hair pasta was lumpy and mushy. The flavor was bland at best, and I am being generous here. We LOVE authentic Italian food and cook it ourselves often, sadly this was neither authentic or flavorful. I had to send mine back, which I never do, and asked for a simple Alfredo. The waiter was very accommodating and apologetic and brought me back the Alfredo. This was also terrible. The Alfredo tasted like it was out of a jar from the grocery store. I couldn’t eat it. My mother barely ate hers. The silver lining is that I chose to speak to the manager, after I saw the bill, I sang the waiters praises, as he was wonderful , but let the manager know how disappointing the meal was and it was not 80.00 worthy since we both had two bites and Sent mine back twice. He was also apologetic and made it right by comping our entire meal, drinks as well. I did not expect that but I was pleased they did the right thing. I can’t say if this is a normal experience here, others seemed happy with their food, but I would think twice before going. We compensated the waiter as we would have anyway, he was great.
