Il Cielo - Sanibel Ratings and Reviews
We arrived an hour before our reservation so that we could sit at bar and enjoy a cocktail. The bartender was excellent (Marco) and we enjoyed visiting with him. He made an excellent old fashioned! After our cocktail, we enjoyed a lovely dinner of parrotfish and veal Marsala. Both dishes were very good. Our salads were fresh and tasty as well! The service was excellent. I would return!
Beautiful restaurant where we celebrated a big birthday for my husband, who enjoys a very nice steak. Even with our young children in tow, service was patient and forgiving let alone very professional. Presentation of food was lovely and it was delicious meat and seafood according to others in my party. However they were not terribly accommodating of my allergies (which require a vegan diet). I had to order a very bland kids pasta after learning that chef’s vegetarian tasting wasn’t dairy free, with no offer to make adjustments. And then didn’t even get part of my order. Overall lovely experience.
It was not anything special. I expected a romantic dinner with lovely piano music. Although the pianist was playing beautiful music the acoustics are not very good and it was difficult to hear him when he announced the numbers.
I had the Lobster Ravioli which came with one cherry tomato. I found no seasonal vegetables as described in the menu.
Not what we hoped for based on the reviews we read. Beautiful restaurant but disappointing food. My mother’s favorite dish is veal osso bucco- she usually licks the plate clean, she didn’t even want to eat this after a few bites. The beet salad however was excellent and the veal Marsala was ok- nothing to write home about and a few tough spots on the veal. My mother wanted to give this review negative stars but I reminded her that the wine, warmed focaccia bread was good, and the live piano.
Came here for my husband’s birthday. The overall atmosphere and food was pretty good. The bread basket was cold bread (we prefer warm) and the dipping oil was bland. We always order Ahi tuna tartar when it’s in the menu and this one left more to be desired. It didn’t have any soy sauce or flavor and they gave you 3 chips to eat the entire portion, however, upon request they did give us more chips....3 to be exact :). The entrees is where we felt we got our moneys worth... my husband got the filet and I ordered the grouper and both were outstanding. We’ll b back!
We had a wonderful experience amazing food, great ambience and attentive service ( thank you, Andres!). The pianist is a very nice touch, and he stopped by our table to take requests. A great place for a special celebration. They have an above par children’s menu that our 8yo and 9 yo enjoyed with gusto, and the staff was very attentive and welcoming to our well behaved children. I’d save this restaurant for that special occasion or date night. Our kids commented that this is a place for special dinners and intuitively knew to behave accordingly, they loved every moment!
Our waiter provided enthusiastic recommendations that were right on target: my husband said his NY strip was the best steak dinner he’s ever had, and I enjoyed a truly extraordinary special - fish over lentils. The pastry chef’s desserts are terrific as well, finishing off a great dining experience.
I’ll Cielo has a great atmosphere that is enhanced with a piano player. My husband had the Ossining Buco- Yum. I had the lamb - the Demi- glaze was a too salty but the great mi t jelly was divine. We stayed for drinks afterwards and listened to the piano player. Service was great. We highly recommend this Restaurant.
This was our first Christmas living on Sanibel Island. We wanted a special place for our Christmas Eve dinner and there was no question where we were going to go. We've dined here many times and have always been thrilled with the food and experience. Our Christmas Eve dinner was no exception... another awesome meal with great service and wonderful ambiance (with Scott McDonald at the piano)... doesn't get any better!
While we never miss a visit to Il Cielo when on Sanibel-Captiva, the crush of diners on Christmas Eve may have overwhelmed the kitchen and waitstaff. The entries were beautifully prepared and presented but somewhat tepid in the case of my Osso Bucco and and somewhat underdone for my wife's duck. Very unexpected for the otherwise A++ service we expect here. The waiter even apologized for be so harried by the large tables of guests that I ended-up pouring the wine from the decanter myself. Oh well, we will be back. This is not only the best Italian on San-Cap, it would compete successfully in Boston. Oh yes, and be sure to sit in the room with the piano. After 7PM, Scott plays and signs all of your favorites. He can read a room like no one else1
Second time back, this time we brought four friends to join us. We had the same waitress, Christine who for the second time made the evening even more enjoyable.
The octopus appetizer and mussel appetizers were both outstanding. Everyone dinner was perfectly prepared and enjoyed by all. Lots of thought went into the extensive wine list with some very interesting options.
It is becoming our favorite dining spot. Looking forward to going back!!
Il Cielo has earned its way to the top of our favourite restaurant list. We ate here on Dec 10,2017 and everything was excellent. We split a beet salad, my wife ordered grouper and I had a filet steak. We also shared a creme brûlées for dessert.
The food was excellent, the piano music was wonderful and our server was hilarious. We have eaten here over a dozen times spanning 5-7 years and have never left disappointed.
We are staying on Sanibel this trip for 4 weeks and I know we will go back at least 2 more times ... Can't wait :)
We (my husband and three grown daughters) went here for my husband's special birthday.
The atmosphere was lovely, with a wonderful piano player playing quiet, but beautiful, music. All five of our entrees, as well as our salads were delicious. The black grouper was a stand out.
The birthday dessert they gave us was beautifully presented and so good. Definitely a great place to go, especially for a special occasion.
Grossly over-rated -- more pretense than fine dining quality. Sophisticated appearance but mediocre, under-seasoned food served inconsistently (this time, no waiter came to our table for 10 minutes after we were seated -- only showed up after we spoke to hostess)
We've eaten at Il Cielo many times, and have always had a wonderful evening. It is probably the nicest upscale restaurant on Sanibel Island. Every detail is excellent. Couldn't ask for a better experience. The background piano music is fabulous. It can be heard all over the restaurant, but even if you're seated next to the piano you can still easily carry on a conversation with your table mates.
This was just not a good dining experience. The main reason was the server. Just awful. Zero clue what she was doing. Was obviously her first table ever waited on. She was the bartender and they decided to give her our table. What a joke of a dinner. One out of six people liked their food AT ALL. Two of the people in our group were professional chefs. They both thought it was a terrible dinner service start to finish. I was sad that found the place and took them there on their vacation,
Our last night on Sanibel with our two sons ended up being a perfect evening at this restaurant. The food was excellent, they have a nice wine selection and drink menu. The atmosphere is more than casual but comfortable. I will definitely go back to this restaurant when back on sanibel.
