Il Cielo - Sanibel Ratings and Reviews
Very nice place on Sanibel Island and definitely a welcome break from the other 'casual seafood' places on the island. We had a nice table on a small patio that only sat 3 tables so we were not on top of the next table. Our waiter was very nice, prompt, courteous and was able to provide helpful suggestions or answer questions.
I had the vegetarian special of the day which was a nice variety of vegetable-filled ravioli and a delicious cream sauce. the ravioli were a little more Al Dente around the edges than I prefer - I think due to thicker edges than the rest of the ravioli; still tasty though.
My husband had another special of angel hair pasta with Andouille sausage and clams and it was delicious with tender clams.
We did have one miss which was the New York Strip another member of our party ordered - medium rare - it came out as a filet medium well. Normally not a big miss but something I do think a restaurant of this caliber should have worked out.
I wouldn't let that stop my recommendation though.
We ended our meal with two lovely desserts including the key lime trio and they were all really well done, delicious and beautiful in their presentation.
Sanibel is a small island with not a lot of gourmet or specialty restaurants - I would definitely recommend this one as a fancier alternative.
I listed Birthday as the special occasion. When our party arrived, no mention of Birthday was made. Then while reviewing the dessert menu, a woman at an adjacent table received a special birthday dessert. At that point I didn't want to ask, "where's mine?". So we didn't order dessert. Obviously they do celebrate birthdays. They just failed to acknowledge mine.
We had friends from up north and really enjoyed our evening. The specials and wine were wonderful. My only compliant was that the service was a little slow and our guest order extra garlic bread but did not receive it. The table did not receive bread at all which I found odd but not really something to complain about.
Marco was our server and he was deluxe. We chose salads/small plates for our meals. The beet salad was generous and the seafood gumbo was spiced just right for me. My husband's caesar salad was average and his soft-shell crab was spectacular. We got lucky with a last-minute reservation but a longer lead time would be recommended!
Overall, we had a good experiences. The server was mostly good, although 2 of us needed additional silverware. I didn’t think my dish was good. The tilefish was bland, and it definitely wasn’t up to being a special. The others enjoyed their meals.
Overall our experience good and we will return
Beautiful setting. Great service--Andre did a super job. Started with the local greens salad. Delicious. Sea scallops were cooked perfectly and were lovely on top of whipped potatoes and braised leeks. Ahi tuna was also cooked perfectly. One of the best pieces of fish. Delicious dessert --chocolate cake. Nice wine list. Nice piano in the bar--not overpowering. Highly recommend.
The setting is lovely - beautiful wood molding and elegant fixtures. A piano player/singer provided soft music. I had the scallop dish over mashed potatoes with vegetables. It was delicious and satisfying but probably would not be a large enough portion for some (4 scallops). Hubby had the Cioppino, which was delicious as well. We each had the mini ice cream sundae for dessert which was tiny but all the dessert we wanted and at 95 cents, was a great bargain. The service was excellent. We will definitely return when we are next at Sanibel Island.
The Chef was exceptional. She did an amazing job accommodating myself and our friends. And the flavors were excellent. Our server Christine was wonderful!
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. This was our second time enjoying this restaurant and we will be back!
We arrived an hour before our reservation so that we could sit at bar and enjoy a cocktail. The bartender was excellent (Marco) and we enjoyed visiting with him. He made an excellent old fashioned! After our cocktail, we enjoyed a lovely dinner of parrotfish and veal Marsala. Both dishes were very good. Our salads were fresh and tasty as well! The service was excellent. I would return!
Beautiful restaurant where we celebrated a big birthday for my husband, who enjoys a very nice steak. Even with our young children in tow, service was patient and forgiving let alone very professional. Presentation of food was lovely and it was delicious meat and seafood according to others in my party. However they were not terribly accommodating of my allergies (which require a vegan diet). I had to order a very bland kids pasta after learning that chef’s vegetarian tasting wasn’t dairy free, with no offer to make adjustments. And then didn’t even get part of my order. Overall lovely experience.
It was not anything special. I expected a romantic dinner with lovely piano music. Although the pianist was playing beautiful music the acoustics are not very good and it was difficult to hear him when he announced the numbers.
I had the Lobster Ravioli which came with one cherry tomato. I found no seasonal vegetables as described in the menu.
Not what we hoped for based on the reviews we read. Beautiful restaurant but disappointing food. My mother’s favorite dish is veal osso bucco- she usually licks the plate clean, she didn’t even want to eat this after a few bites. The beet salad however was excellent and the veal Marsala was ok- nothing to write home about and a few tough spots on the veal. My mother wanted to give this review negative stars but I reminded her that the wine, warmed focaccia bread was good, and the live piano.
Came here for my husband’s birthday. The overall atmosphere and food was pretty good. The bread basket was cold bread (we prefer warm) and the dipping oil was bland. We always order Ahi tuna tartar when it’s in the menu and this one left more to be desired. It didn’t have any soy sauce or flavor and they gave you 3 chips to eat the entire portion, however, upon request they did give us more chips....3 to be exact :). The entrees is where we felt we got our moneys worth... my husband got the filet and I ordered the grouper and both were outstanding. We’ll b back!
