Il Casale - Lexington
il Casale Cucina Campana features an open kitchen clad with imported hand painted tiles from Vietri, classic Italian country furnishings made from reclaimed barn wood, and rustic metal ambient lighting pendants. A vintage map of the Campania region fills a floor to ceiling wall that is at the end of an 18 seat Carrara marble bar. il Casale Cucina Campana + Bar celebrates the ties to family and the roots from which they come, and Chef Dante and his brothers Filippo and Damian welcome each and every guest as an extension of the de Magistris family.
Took my mom for a belated Mother’s Day dinner. We had to ask for a change of table because of being sat next to the patio door (the opening of which every ninety seconds blew cold air on all of us - the two sets of people who sat there after us had the same problem). They accommodated, but sat us next to the cashier/water station, so we got bumped a bunch. Service was very nice but slow - I’m pretty sure they forgot about us (wine glasses empty for a while, etc). Food was good, though nothing to write home about. Noise level and feeling like we were unwelcome means we won’t be back.
I always want to like this place. In fact, we used to love this place! Something has happened in the last year or two with the food. It used to be excellent, but I don't know what happened. We used to go at least every few weeks. After not going since the Fall, we went for my husband's birthday last night, and when we sat down and he said, "this menu never seems to excite me." Nothing that sounds fantastic. The homemade pasta itself is usually very good, and usually well-cooked. But the sauces are off.
I had the primavera, which had such potential. The problem was that the taste/amount of pancetta in the dish completely overwhelmed it. (FTR, I was surprised that there was pancetta in it at all.) My husband had the hanger steak. Hanger steak is often sliced, but his dish came in kabobs. And they were not hot. A little chewy too, as though they had been marinating too long. One of my sons had the chicken marsala, which was very good. My other son had the bolognese, which was bland. The arancini is always delicious, and the burrata is beautifully presented.
We used to go every year for their Xmas Eve dinner, and this past year our out-of-town family asked us to go someplace else. The atmosphere is still cozy, and the bar is nice. I just wouldn't race over here for the food. If I had friends with us, I'd be afraid they'd be disappointed.
Very impressive attention to detail. Everything was just delicious and our waitress was lovely. Good job team !
Great service and the food was amazing! It was my second visit and I'll definitely be back. I like the option for half orders of pasta dishes so I can try out other dishes!
Every dish we had was perfectly prepared and delicious. An excellent choice for a special occasion.
Delicious food and wonderful service........celebrating Mother's Day and our Anniversary....Perfect!
Terrific food. Very pleasant ambiancee. Well-trained and courtious waitstaff. Overall, a great experience!
Interesting menu, excellent service, absolutely fabulous food and pleasant ambiance especially near the large windows.
I highly recommend this delightful restaurant
Arrived on Mother’s Day at 3 pm. My daughter arrived before the rest of us and ordered a glass of wine for me. It was not very good - maybe a $12 bottle at most for $14 a glass. Ridiculous because although an Italian Restaurant we are not in Italy and the establishment should serve some type of Cabs and Pinot Grigio at least.
Biggest problem was our server. Not attentive, no ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ ... it was like she was bothered by us and disappeared for long periods of time - couldn’t even find her to get a second glass of wine with the meal. I had the vegetarian dish with pasta - very mild risotto with very little saffron. Disappointed as most of our meals. Small portions, bland sauce for my veg daughter. Will not care to go back. Find another authentic Italian place for sure! Owner needs to check back with an elder for those recipes.
Enjoyed our lunch for Mother’s Day. The wait staff was very attentive and catered to all our questions/needs.
The 5 of us enjoyed our dining experience in the bar area. It was the 1st visit for 3 of the diners in our party, all had a fish entree and loved it . The service was OUTSTANDING ! Thank you.
Very good Italian food served in a casual, social oriented setting.
After a walk in downtown Lexington, Il Casale was a welcome stop for a good bite to eat.
Great job Dan you’re very aware of the food you serve and your suggestions were on point
Decent food. Great service. Not "authentic" nor "excellent" italian food. The poor quality Bread at the beginning sets the trend for just "OK" food.
Our server expertly handled our large party. The staff seemed to expect and didn’t mind that we would occupy our table for the entire dinner service.
Most of our various food restrictions and requested substitutions were communicated without a problem, with the exception of one vegetarian unhappily receiving meat in her dish. The server did her best to compensate for the situation.
From this and previous experiences at Il Casale-Lexington, we generally find the appetizers and salads to be the most exciting items on the menu.
I’m sure we’ll be back. As Lexingtonians, we are lucky to have such a nice restaurant so conveniently located.
We have kept returning for dinners despite our disappointment! Never again! The meals we prepare at home are far more outstanding and the venue much more relaxing and enjoyable. The sister Belmont restaurant has been equally disappointing. It is embarrassing to have taken our out of town guests to both!
The best restaurant in Lexington. A neighborhood place where you don't have to dress up, yet everything is top class.
The food was sub par compared to previous visits. The server was fairly blasé - no apology when the lasagna was cold, and the busser did not know how to clear dishes without leaning all over everyone. We used to really like this restaurant but feel it has really gone down hill.
Always great to go to Il Casale before or after a movie.
A very pleasant experience dining at Il Casale. Attentive waitperson, excellent menu, delicious food well-prepared!
Our dinner with friends was perfect! We ordered the Amalfi which is a multi course chefs choice. Started with arroncinis, bruschetta, and another tasty selection. It was followed by homemade pasta bolognese, eggplant, chicken Marsala and salmon glazed. All incredibly delicious. A selection of almond cookies, tiramisu, and sorbet! 😋 Our server was awesome, funny and attentive but not intrusive! Atmosphere was great! All around great night!
I shared an enjoyable meal with a girlfriend earlier this week. From the moment we walked in the door, the service team was welcoming!
Special thanks to Doug, our server and the bartender for the evening. The restaurant had a nice neighborhood feel (my neighborhood :))
The food was tasty - calamari appetizer, spaghetti with clams and bolognese pasta. The fried artichoke appetizer wasn’t as special.
Good food, wine & service in a nice, relaxed atmosphere.
Everything except the service was great. Server just disappeared.
Fantastic Saturday dinner--food divine, lovely service and appealing ambiance.
Very warm in the restaurant at times
Server was slow but good
My husband and I received a Gift Card to Il Casale as a gift. We dined on Fried Atichokes, Arugula Salad, Branzino, and Veal saltimbacca... delish! Service was wonderful!!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Lovely place with half-portions, which my friends and I love.
Good for business dinners, not so loud. Appetizers good, pasta could have been better.
Belmont location is much better. Food was so so. Service was slow. Hot drinks came after instead of with our desserts. Skip this spot.
While a little high priced, the food at Il Casale is delicious. Definitely a good place to go for a "special" meal.
Excellent service, very good food, warm ambience. Our appetizers and entrees were uniformly excellent -- flavorful and well-seasoned without being too salty. The restaurant happily adjusted one item to meet dietary restrictions without any loss in quality. The wine flights were also very good. The only reason I've given Il Casale 4 stars instead of 5 is that we would have liked to see a few more low-carb entree options (admittedly a challenge in a restaurant that features pasta). All-in-all, though, a nice surprise! We'll be back.
Lexington's best restaurant.
Satisfactory as always/
Food and service were excellent. Ambiance was poor. The decor and overall “feeling” of the restaurant seemed cheesy. More effort needs to be put into the look and feel of the restaurant. Also, they sat us at a table near the windows with a space heater on the floor. Not great. It was our first time there with friends and when we walked in based on the environment, I was nervous I had made a mistake in choosing this restaurant. Thankfully, the food and service made up for it.
Great service, very good food and drinks, and comfortable space!!
Hit the spot for post movie dinner. Recommend.
The Spanish Squid dish stood out as excellent, everything else was what I would consider good. I had the marsala and it seemed a little overcooked and missing any hint of salt. My girlfriend had a pasta dish that she enjoyed. Overall I would go back to try the appetizers again, I didn't see anything on the main menu that was too exciting.
The service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice.
Eggplant parm is spectacular! I get it every time I go. The cask Manhattan is fantastic.
