Located in the heart of Lexington Center, il Casale Cucina Campana + Bar is a restaurant from Chef Dante de Magistris and his brothers Damian de Magistris and Filippo de Magistris. il Casale Cucina Campana + Bar continues the story of il Casale Cucina Italiana that began in Belmont five years ago, but is a tour around the Campania region of Italy where the de Magistris family hails from.

il Casale Cucina Campana features an open kitchen clad with imported hand painted tiles from Vietri, classic Italian country furnishings made from reclaimed barn wood, and rustic metal ambient lighting pendants. A vintage map of the Campania region fills a floor to ceiling wall that is at the end of an 18 seat Carrara marble bar. il Casale Cucina Campana + Bar celebrates the ties to family and the roots from which they come, and Chef Dante and his brothers Filippo and Damian welcome each and every guest as an extension of the de Magistris family.

A nice offering of daily specials. One member of our party was accommodated with a custom dish not on the menu. Ambiance is very pleasant, service was very good.

Anna was our server and she was very attentive and knowledgeable. My wife and I stopped in because we were seeing a show at Cary Hall. Glad we did! The food was exquisite and the wine tasting option was perfect. We finished the meal off with cannoli's and they were fabulous. We will be back!

The one saving grace of this restaurant was our waiter Dan. He was engaging, fun, available, and efficient. Aside from that, the menu was uninspired, the food was not very tasty, and the prices were much higher than they should have been given the choice and quality of the fare. As a quick example, my wife ordered the farfalle special that was delivered to the table with huge chunks of unmelted cheese scattered among mediocre pasta. Side dishes were bland, and the lamb that I was served was way over salted. Overall, a disappointing meal that cost $75/person and left us feeling unsatisfied.

I can't quite put my finger on it... but while the service was SPECTACULAR, the food was missing something. Fabulous grilled octopus, but for $15 the portion is questionable. Fried calamari was beautiful, but they changed the sauces to subpar offerings. There was something missing.... I love Joanne filling in from Dante to help her flagship restaurant, having grown from bartending to GM and a loyal admirer of the family she services. But the food left us yearning. It's a trek from Hudson. And it was great enough for us to voyage out for good Italian... not sure we will be back.

This is why they didn’t get 5 stars.
We booked a table at 7, when we arrived people were still at our assigned table. Although they had paid, they were just left to hang around. It was 7:20 by the time they sat us but only because the table decided to leave, not because they were told people were waiting for the table.
At the end of the day, some of our party were late because an event sucked up nearly all the parking, so all was well that ended well.

The food is great, the gluten free menu is actually safe for allergies (so far in my experience) and last time I commented on the lack of gluten free desserts, now to find an amaze flourless chocolate cake on the menu!

We came as a family get together and were not disappointed. We were intrigued by the appetizers and ordered several for the table of six. The arancini were the best I have ever had. We did a lot of sharing and were happy with everything we ordered. The desserts were good too.

There was a lively Friday night crowd and everyone seemed to be having fun. Our servers were attentive but never hovered and made sure we were pleased with both the salad course and our entrees. The reservation was made via Open Table and a manager checked in earlier in the day to ask about our table location preference. This rarely happens with restaurants and it was very appreciated. This was a great choice for spending the evening with a friend.

Seemed liked a nice place yet the background music was definitely not what you would expect. Loud and more appropriate for a college frat party. Owners should find some Italian music.
The wait help need some training...disappeared when my table wanted refills on the drinks.
I was also deep in conversation with a dinner guest when the waitress appeared to remove the plates. The meals were clearly not finished. Evidently this is a ‘hurry up and get the —— out’ place!
Food was excellent, though. Just block your ears and guard your plate!

We've eaten at Il Casale before, but only had appetizers at the bar; this was our first experience sitting down for a real meal. It was a quiet weeknight and the place was fairly empty. The tables are well spaced and the acoustics congenial (unlike the Belmont location, which we find so loud and cramped we've given up on it). We shared a fried artichoke appetizer, which was excellent. We both ordered fairly traditional pasta dishes with red sauce, and shared a side of meatballs. We found the sauce more salty than we'd make at home, but otherwise all the dishes were spot on - tender lasagna noodles, flavorful meatballs, al dente pasta. The wine list is longer than you'll find at most suburban Italian restaurants, with a number of interesting and moderately priced Italian wines; we shared a Gattinara which was not cheap but well worth the money. Service was understated but prompt and courteous.

Service was excellent and food is good though pricey especially for Sunday lunch. There is only one menu—Dinner! I ordered the half organization chicken which was juicy and flavorful, what came with it was minuscule at best.

Food was good . Appetizers were OK but main course of shell pasta with braised lamb was amazing. I think appetizers were good but not a big fan of fried artichokes in general so can't hold it against them. would highly recommend.

I was embarrassed to invite my friends from New York to Lexington Il Casele.
Why they use the same name with Belmont one? It was totally different food. Please ask the restaurant owner to change the name not to confuse the people who know the reputation of Belmont Il Casele.

This was the third time we have been to Il Casale. The first time was when it opened in Lexington. The food was not up to par, the prices were high for suburban locale, and we found the atmosphere, staff, etc., pretentious. The pasta was not that outstanding. Second time the food was still just OK. The booth we sat at was against a pathway to the bar and kitchen and the staff kept banging into the back or leaning against the back of the booth to chat, which was disruptive.

We decided to go back after three years to celebrate our anniversary. The experience was improved, the staff was nice, not as pretentious. The drinks were very good, although a bit pricey. Food was good but not outstanding, average - would expect something better from Dante, especially at the prices - $40 for fish (halibut).

Even though the experience was improved, it will be a while for a return visit.
