We had a reservation which was not an issue because the restaurant was not busy. We were sat at a table for two right next to an occupied table of two, which is ok, if busy, but there had to be 25 empty tables we could of been sat at. The service was slow which i had heard prior, so allowed for enough time before the show we were going to. I thought the portions were a bit small for the price of the small size entrees. Did not get a warm and fuzzy from any of the wait staff and they were not busy felt more like we were a burden.
We love this place, friendly, home like experience, food delicious and they take care of their customer
Pros- This restuarant has amazing food. Authentic Italian food. Tasty. Homemade pasta.
Cons- The portions were small though. 1/2 plate vs full felt like they just swapped out the actually plate size.
Cons for some people- Food was on the expensive side but remember that its lexington and rent is not cheap. But if you want good food it's worth it.
Pros- Service was exceptional. Top notch waiters/waitresses. Went on a Tuesday night and it was not too busy compared to a weekend.
Overall I'd go back 100%! Loved the food and service.
Great food and service tonight at Il Casale Lexington, Robin our server is always excellent!
Just as excellent as their Belmont location!!
The rice balls were incredible! The food seemed to be classic Italian with a slight twist, and everything was great!
We ate dinner two nights running--April 13th and 14th.
The first evening was in support of three young women who had come to do the Tough Ruck sponsored in part by the Boston Marathon. They wanted to "carb up" and so they did!
The next night we celebrated the achievements of two of our athletes, while the third celebrated with her family. We raised a glass in their honor and had a delicious meal. We especially appreciated Robin's suggestions. The food was savory and oh, so satisfying.
Il Casale was one of the best "finds" of our trip--and we were grateful not only for the food, but for the fact that the restaurant didn't roar. No loud music. No awkward kitchen noise, and the kitchen is in plain view! We could actually have a conversation, and hear each other. Thank you to the management/designers for making this environment possible.
We sat at a high top in the bar area. It was a Friday evening so it was pretty full. Service was good - our waiter provided us with many recommendations which we appreciated. We shared the fried calamari appetizer which was light and tasty. We each had a pasta dish as our main meal and then shared the Italian apple pie for dessert. Everything was very good and we enjoyed our meal. We would go back if we were in the Lexington area.
Service was a little slow and the place was not full so no excuses for that. The appetizers were excellent. I especially enjoyed the grilled octopus. My partners thought the dressing on the arugula salad was exceptional. The olive oil served with the bread had this nice green extra virgin tint and wonderful aroma. We had a fantastic wine and enjoyed a fairly average presentation of veal or scallops. The veal was less tender than I would have liked but not unacceptable. Nice place just not exceptional.
Great menu draw. Unfortunately lacks quality and style. Risotto scallop entree was served with 4 small scallops on one plate and a side of risotto on another plate-no flavor blend. Branzino was dry and sides tasted old and reheated. Staff wasnt knowledgeable on menu or wine. Disappointing and overpriced.
Wonderful meal - swordfish special was exceptional. Dessert martini was unexpected and delicious.
Great evening! All dinners were fantastic - from small bites through dessert!
Truly special for a single diner on his own. I ate at the bar, struck up a conversation with the people next to me and discovered we had two mutual friends. Better than facebook and much more private. Great food and wine.
This was my first time for dinner at Il Casale (I had been there once for lunch) and I was disappointed. The restaurant was loud, so that one had difficulty having a conversation. The waitress, while not rude, was a little short with us. Both my wife's and my dinner were of mediocre quality. It is unlike I will return.
We have loved Il Casale in Belmont, but we’re very disappointed with our meal in Lexington. Our server could explain the evenings specials to us when asked. The veal that I had was rubbery and the potatoes were very bland. It is a great space, but they didn’t seem to be up to speed.
Took over 1 hour for entrees to come and restaurant was only 1/3 full.
Service was outstanding. The entree I ordered was not what I expected from the menu description, and not only did the server readily volunteer to provide a substitute, but the manager came over to apologize. We ended up taking the first order home. Then the manager brought over a complimentary dessert to express appreciation for our business and our courtesy to the server. A+ for graciousness as good food.
Unfortunately, typical for Il Casale, terrible service. Way too slow and inattentive. We repeatedly had to ask for the next step... ready for drink orders... wondering where drinks are... ready for order to be taken... ready for appetizers to be taken away... asking for a new fork when old one was removed... ready for check... still ready for check... Not sure if the waitstaff is told not to rush, but they routinely cross the line from leisurely to lackadaisical. The food is good, however.
Very attentive waitress who made helpful suggestions. Food was excellent
Saw Death of Stalin at the Venue then enjoyed great food and service at Il Casale. A nice casual evening out. Thanks Il Casale!
This has become one of my favorite local restaurants. The food is delicious, and they offer half-size portions for the pasta dishes -- perfect portions when you want room left over for dessert!
Amazing food and wine selection
Never EVER a bad meal! Home made pastas that are PERFECT (their spaguetti a la vongole is PERFECTION!), fantastic steaks. But the latest discovery were their airy and fluffy fried dough dusted in powdered sugar! OH MY! I love my caffe corretto - strong espresso with a hefty shot of GRAPPA! Tight menu, very well executed and magnificent staff! Our latest find? James! Great food folks!
Portions were small, service wasn’t great , they forgot our soup, we had to ask for bread , the gnocchi’s were not very hot, place needs a lot of help
The wait staff at the bar were exceptional. The cocktails were first rate.
Saw one of the academy-award nominated movies at the Venue and after came over for a meal at Il Casale. Always great food and service, like the low-key atmosphere.
Thanks Il Casale!
Food was excellent. It was a bit loud. Hard to have a conversation, but a fun exiting atmosphere. The waiter could have been more attentive. Good thing the food was delicious and hot. The sever did not return until well after we were finished with the meal and forgot my glass of wine.
Excellent food and service.
Reliably good food, friendly service. Love coming on a date night, or special occasions with kids.
Went for Sunday night date night, looking for good food that we didn’t have to cook and clean, and preferably quiet and cozy. The live music was not bad, but not really what we were going for, and a bit louder than what we’d hoped for. The food was what we’ve come to expect: reliably good Italian with a unique spin. Smoked mozzarella is a cool way to do gnocchi that I’ve never seen before! And the lamb in the pasta was absolutely melt-in-the-mouth tender. Of course, you pay for good food and not having to work for it, but I thought the prices were fair. Definitely don’t skip on the wine- I think there are some really good values on their list at most price points.
This is my first time writing a review. I went on a Monday night with my mom while she was visiting. I had been to the one in Belmont and enjoyed the food so I unfortunately assumed they would be serving the same quality food. To say we were disappointed in our food would be an understatement. My risotto tasted like microwaved white rice and my mom's chicken was wayyy over cooked and had very little flavor. The bartender, who was our server, was very helpful but the other people in the restaurant were unable to handle my complaint. I live in Lexington and would love to give this place another chance but the food was SO BAD I just can't go back. I don't know if there was no manager on duty and so everyone was slacking off but I can't see how this place will be able to stay open long if they continue to serve food like that. Really disappointing.
We love the menu here - we can get interesting small plates, full or half pasta courses, delicious entrees, and great desserts. On this cold evening, we started with spiced mulled wine which came in ceramic mugs with their own covers. We split the burrata and a beet salad and for our entrees we had the eggplant parmigiana, a ricotta ravioli with lobster, and the tagliatelle with Bolognese ragu. Everything was prepared well and presented beautifully and the service was attentive and friendly. We will be back.
Hostess at first ignored our request for a quiet booth and sat us next to the bar. I complained and we were moved to a quieter spot. My wife wanted the Cod dish but they were unfortunately out of it. Still pretty much everything on the menu is tasty so not much of a problem
Last minute reservation. They took us in early and we enjoyed a reasonably priced wine w our lasagna, eggplant parm and Nona’s meatballs.
We went to the movies then dinner. The food was excellent and the staff was extremely attentive!
Good food and thankfully quieter than its sister restaurant in Belmont Center
Very good meal and great cocktails .
Excellent service
Excellent! Casual, but upscale atmosphere. Menu and food was fantastic. Nice wine selection and informed server. We really enjoyed the evening and Will definitely return!
At last, a good restaurant in one of Lexington's best downtown district locations! For some reason, the restaurants at this location have come and gone all too frequently. Il Casale looks like it has the right setup, design, and menu to be here for the long run. Our food and service was excellent. We had reservations for Saturday night, thankfully, as there were plenty of people waiting for tables. We'll be back!
Excellent service. Robin was so great! Very attentive and fun. Food awesome- pasta perfectly al dente.
