Il Casale - Belmont
“I loved a lot of restaurants this year, wantonly and casually, and then I moved on. il Casale was one I loved seriously; it’s a keeper. Chef Dante de Magistris and his family hit this one out of the park.” - Devra First, Boston Globe
Very friendly service. They bent over backwards to accommodate our request for a low-top table to make an elderly member of our party comfortable. Excellent Italian cuisine.
Very good service and great food!
I had their chicken Parmesan. It was very tough and for some strange reason it was dark meat not white meat. I will not be going back.
We have eaten her numerous times and it's usually good, but the food this time was inconsistent. My chicken was tasty but my wife's pasta was too peppery, and the crab which she had added was just tossed on top, not incorporated into the dish.
I’ve been to I’ll Casale many times and this was the first time the service was this poor. It took quite a while for the server to stop by initially. We never received our side order and by the time our server checked on us, we were done with our entrees so we just let her know about the oversight and that we no longer wanted it. I ordered gelato for dessert and had to point out to our server that what she brought was not the right kind so I had to wait to get the right kind. It then took a while to get and pay for our bill. I have always had a great experienc at Il Casale in the past as it’s one of my go to places; however, our server unfortunately made it a less than great experience.
Best tasting food! Would go back many times over and I would bring fiends along.
Great waiter! Really personable. Delicious food. Our go to place.
Absolutely incredible! Service and food were amazing. I have always loved coming here and never had any complaints. Everyone was super friendly especially the hostess!
I have eaten at Il Casale five or six times in the last several years, and the food itself is fabulous. My most recent dinner (on a Thursday night) included a bean / fennel salad which was very flavorful, with fresh crunchy yellow beans and a light olive oil dressing, as well as their pasta special, which was a lamb tagliatelle. My dining companions also finished everything on their plates.
The high quality of the food that night made up for an indifferent and new server, who was adamant that the chef's tasting menu was a surprise (she didn't want to tell us what dishes we would get - although they were all from the menu - needless to say, we didn't order it).
Also, the location of the restaurant, inside an old brick firestation, makes it quite loud. We were fortunate to get one of the quieter tables, but it was still 'energetic' in volume. We are coming into outdoor dining season, and Il Casale has some of those outdoor tables, which would be lovely.
Beautifully prepared delicious food, awesome service, loved the old firehouse feeling and the exposed brick. Will definitely return soon.
Ava at the front of the house was as sweet as can be. OUr server was professional and rher recommendations were perfect. Such a fun night, we will be back!
one no fuss restaurant that is open late in Belmont. The staff is friendly and the food is good. The noise level makes it very difficult to have a conversation with friends without speaking loudly. And the tables are a bit too close to each other.
The overall poor rating is specially directed at the front of house. We showed up for a 7:30pm reservation and were not seated until over an hour later, despite there being an empty table since we walked in. Instead of approaching this embarrassing wait time and inconvenience with humility it was met with arrogance and attitude by two different hostesses, saying there’s nothing they could do. However, once a table was ready, I was notified by an aggressive shoulder grab, and a “Let’s go!” Every time we make a reservation, our table is never ready at the specified time, but this time it was a complete breakdown. Luckily one of the bartenders caught wind of our frustration and informed a manager who was able to professionally salvage the evening with some free drinks and apps, and personality. The food is fine, and to be honest, the only reason we didn’t leave is because we were hanging out with our friends and enjoyed the company.
Il Casale is fine especially when trapped on Northside of Train tracks due to horrible traffic now.
I guess my opinion would be better if we didn't sit a while waiting to order drinks. That usually sets the tone for the rest of the night.
Il Casale is one of my favorite restaurants in the Boston area. Fabulous food; attentive, professional and friendly service without being intrusive and a great drink menu. Pasta dishes are available in half portions making it easy to try a few and I love the ambiance of this former fire station with the exposed brick.
This restaurant has been absolutely reliably outstanding the five times I've eaten here, besides being very attractive. This time, the bean salad with escarole, toasted hazelnuts and lemon vinaigrette was the stand-out, but every dish had flavor and character in the best Italian tradition, and the glass of Montepulciano was the perfect accompaniment. The wait staff was promptly attentive and pleasantly natural. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, and worth every penny.
We had a great birthday dinner and look forward to going back
very so so experience overall. horrible service and food taste is also very average.
The food and the service were excellent. The dishes were different but well prepared.
We so enjoyed our first time here! The restaurant was busy but without a hurried feel, service was on par, and the food was delicious. We began with the arancini, and for dinner we ordered the tagliatelle alla Bolognese and the pasta special, a sweet potato gnocchi. For dessert we split the torta al cioccolato (chocolate mousse cake). We were very happy with everything we ordered, and we're excited to come back to try more...maybe when the temperatures warm up and we can enjoy the patio!
Not a great night for Il Casale...food very inconsistent. Started with the beef meatballs and the sauteed calamari and both were very good. The shrimp scampi appetizer was not good at all. The shrimp were overcooked rock shrimp which was not disclosed in the description and was covered in a murky green sauce which is not characteristic of scampi. The waiter offered to replace with another item. Chicken cutlet dinner has dry and over cooked. The salmon and gnocchi dinner specials were good. Prices have increased and quality seems to have gone down...would not rush back.
The new chef at il Casale is absolutely superb, turning a beloved neighborhood gem into one of our favorite places to dine. The pasta, made in-house, is unbeatable; as a frequent eater of fish, I don't know a restaurant in which it is more fresh. The wine list is excellent, too. The owners import certain wines exclusively, and they are marked as such on the wine list -- these are great choices!
It IS noisy, often a challenge for middle aged ears, and that is because this spot is always humming with people. Noise is a small price to pay for such an exceptional restaurant.
It was superb! Everything the four of us had was just splendid!
Food was amazing. Perfect for a date night. Will definitely be back!
Food was great as always but the service was more than disappointing. We got our drinks quite promptly but the waiter seemed dull and not like they wanted to be there from the second he greeted us. We asked for bread twice and then had to ask another waiter before we got any. After waiting for about 30mins we finally had our order taken. We got our apps within 15mins which kept us occupied for a little. It wasn’t until about another 30-45mins had past that we noticed we still didn’t have our main entrees. We then saw both the tables on either side of us get their meals even though they were both seated AFTER us and both their orders were taken AFTER ours by the SAME waiter. He finally came by to ask everyone at the table except for myself if anyone needed a refill. I was then left with no refill until dessert. He didn’t check on us once and didn’t seem to care for our table. We noticed he was checking in on both tables on either side of us but not our table. The odd part was we were the bigger party. Both tables on either side of us were just a party of two and we were a party of four. We were there to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and our waiter never even acknowledged that. Another waiter came by with gelato with a candle but didn’t even know the flavor. We then had to ask another waiter for the check. I love il Casale and have always had a great experience. Tonight was an all time low. My whole family talked about how disappointed we all were. It’s a new management and I’m worried it won’t have the same amazing service it used to. As much as I love it I’m not sure I would want to go back. Our dinner ended up taking over two hours due to our slow service. There were multiple times we were all waiting for our waiter and couldn’t even find him. We may come back in a month or two but none of us are eager after tonight’s service.
Wonderful ambiance. Food was delicious. Service was great.
They are so accommodating here. We have three kids and they always try to fit us in. We are always so thankful.
Il Casale delivered on all fronts! Appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts were all outstanding and generous.
We had a great diner last Friday. Friday’s can be tricky because a restaurant can be full of all types of tables( couples, families, people dropping in) but no problem here. We had a reservation and they were very accommodating with the table. The staff at ail Casale was great, from the hostess, to the bus staff to the waiter. We did not wait for anything more than a minute. The food was excellent. The portions were perfect. We were 5 ladies and ladies like to try everything but not eat a lot sometimes, so had 2 appetizers, delicious and then we had 1/2 portions of the dinner. All were excellent. We were one of the last tables in the restaurant and we did not feel rushed at all. We will definitely becoming back...
The food was meh and yet very pricey. The atmosphere is cool but that’s about it. We won’t be back.
exquisite food and bartender was very knowledgeable
Excellent food.My only complaint is that our birthday celebration for the 3 women in our party of 6 was not acknowledged despite indicating celebration w/ our reservation on Open Table and a call to restaurant a few days before indicating the b-day celebration.
Food was excellent but the service was off. We had to wait a long long time to get the check and also the waiter never asked if we wanted another drink. I think we would have considered dessert but we waited so long to get the dessert menu and when the waiter finally came to get an order too much time had passed and we didn't want to wait any more. So we went down the street for ice cream. I have been here several times before and had a better experience on those occasions.
Another excellent meal from Dante's team. As an appetizer, we split one of the daily specials - bucatini all'amatriciana, as good as we've ever had. Main courses, dessert, and cappuccino all excellent. Service is outstanding without being intrusive. For Italian dining, why would we go anywhere else?
The rib eye was outstanding - home made pasta a definite with Bolognese the cheese board also exceptional could have used more toast, but we had a large party of 5 cocktails fresh cold perfect size Clean restaurant, attentive staff. Looking forward to my return.
Myself and my girlfriend loved it. Lovely atmosphere and great service. Food was delicious too.
Salmon dish was sublime. Brussels sprouts were also delicious. Great ambiance and energy. Excellent bar scene. Our go-to local place.
Il Casale Belmont is our go-to date night and special occasion restaurant. The ambience can’t be beat, great service, & yummy food.
Attentive staff and an owner who makes sure you feel more like a guest and less like a customer. Delicious food and beverage.
Everything was pretty good, but for the special Valentine's menu, at that price point, I expected a little more. Out of three courses, one of mine was a top choice. The rigatoni with walnuts, broccoli, and mushrooms was delicious. The appetizer, a salad with burrata, pomegranate, and speck, was good but very simple and light. The branzino was ok, but a little strong in flavor and served with creamed beets, which were a little more creamy than beets. My friend had an outstanding appetizer. The antipasto was the highlight of the whole dinner. His next course, the ravioli, was bland, in both the filling and the surrounding meat sauce, but his entree of steak was good. The dessert, cannoli with ice cream was a nice small finish. The ambiance was nice and service was good. I'd try Il Casale again on a regular night, but just felt like for the price point, and for the special occasion, all dishes should have been strong offerings.
