As I said in the last review this restaurant used to have excellent food until they changed the menu and - presumably - got a new chef. The food is ambitious but totally underseasoned and somewhat overcooked.
We were disappointed that the special and several other dishes on the menu were unavailable, even though we had an early evening reservation. As a result, my wife ordered the replacement special, not on the menu, which was a veal chop. Our mistake? We never asked the server how much they were charging for it, and he never told us. Surprise, when the bill came, it was $49. Combine that with $15 charge for a glass of average white wine, and we left the restaurant feeling gouged.
The food and service here are good, the noise level is high, and the prices are becoming unrealistic. We’ll go again, but cautiously.
My husband''s chicken parm appeared to be still frozen on the inside and was not edible. The meatball app was fantastic. My ravioli was great. Service was nothing special, but okay. The room is cozy, but our table was too close to the next one and we could overhear their entire conversation.
The appetizers and desserts were very expensive for what you got. The atmosphere was crowded, (tables too close together) and the service felt a little rushed. My scallop dinner was amazing but again expensive. No sides or salad or veggies included. I would say if you want to spend a lot of money then go, otherwise save it for a special occasion.
Go to place for cocktails and good food.
We both loved our meals, veal scalopini and scallops with saffron risotto! My wife said the burrata appetizer was the best she has ever had. Our waiter was as professional and lovely as they get. We will surely return soon and pass the word along. Thank you for a wonderful evening and dinner.
I’ll start by stating that I have dined at the Belmont location 12-15 times over the years and 25 -30 times at the Lexington location so I’m not writing this review without lengthy experience. We booked a table for four for a birthday celebration. Seating, waiter introduction and cocktails all went smoothly. From there it was all down hill. After hearing the daily specials one in the party ordered the swordfish special and I ordered the pasta special. Orders in all set. Oh wait. He returned to inform us that the swordfish was unavailable. Mind you this was a 6:45 reservation with a relatively light crowd and one of the specials was unavailable. Ok, switch to the pasta special. We ordered salads and the calamari app to split. Salads came out promptly but app did not. After we finished our salads the waiter made his way back and I asked about the calamari. He had clearly forgotten. When the calamari arrived it was a complete disappointment. Not crispy and unflavorful. Next up the entrees. No wait. Only three entrees. Apparently when informed that the swordfish was unavailable they forgot to put in the replacement order. The floor manager came back and advised the rest of us to start as it would be 10 minutes for the 4th entree. Really? So I started on my pasta special which was a squid ink spaghetti with bay scallops and shrimp. The scallops were overcooked to the texture of rubber gromits and the shrimp didn’t fair much better. Overall the dish was overly salty and disappointing. After eating maybe a 1/4 of the dish I was done. The waiter was pleasant and was trying but nothing was going well. After the third request for water we finally were able to get refills. He obviously knew the experience was not going well and offered an after dinner port on the house. Although we didn’t request a comp I noticed later that he did comp the 4th entree. Overall I have to say I’d be hard pressed to try this location again.

We had a party of 11 (combined 2 reservations) when we learned that extra family members were coming. The hostess was reluctant to put our tables together but our server graciously did it making us all feel welcome.
Great meal. Food delicious, wonderful menu. Be prepared to wait a while for food. But servers are experienced and knowledgeable.
We had such a lovely evening! Service was excellent. We were a party of 4 and we ordered the Ferrari and so enjoyed it! Highly recommend!

Four of us dined at Il Casale on a Saturday night. Our friend loved the location and vibe. The meal (all 4) were well prepared. Good ingredients and nice combination of flavors. One of the specials was the chicken marsala. It was delicious. The entire staff was efficient and welcoming. Your host is excellent.
We definitely will dine here again.
We made our reservation last minute on OpenTable when there were only high top tables left in bar, which was fine. Although the bar area was almost empty, we were shown to a table right next to the opening to the kitchen, service area and bathrooms. When asked if there was another option, we were seated across from the front door so every time anyone came in or out, frigid air swept in over my legs. They closed a curtain to keep out cold air when asked. When we left, the bar tables still had not filled up which was annoying— we could have come and gone and they still could have given regulars/ people who had reserved early a good table. Kale salad not great. Pasta good, chicken Marsala good. Service was excellent.
Seated next to high top table in the back of the restaurant. A large party there was shouting at each other. Difficult for our table of 5 to have a conversation

It was perfect for an evening with the ladies, food was yummy and we were not rushed.
Order the burratta, the aroncini, the Tagliatelle Bolognese, and the lamb. The food is delectable, the atmosphere vibrant but refined in a rustic Tuscan elegance sort of way. This is my new go to restaurant in Boston. Fantastic!!
Stick to the classic Italian dishes and you will not be disappointed. When il casalle strays from Italian, they often flail.
We bought a friend for dinner, it was great. Great entree and apps, great service. The noise level was a little high... But the atmosphere was fun.
We were there for Braciole Monday.
I loved the wax and green bean salad with fennel and citrus. The pork Braciole was flavorless. I wouldn’t order it again.
My spouse ordered the shrimp in a parsley pesto which he had there before and liked but not as much this time!
The bolognese with Papardelle was as always very good! The waiter helped us w wine choice and I tried one red I didn’t like (Barbera) and took his rec on another ? Montepulciano and liked it very much!

There are staff just filling water, and food runners, and drink runners, and wait staff... and it seems none of them are communicating with each other. Of the eight different items we ordered, one was no longer available, and three times the wrong things showed up at our table. I had to hold my menu in my lap while I ate the appetizer because no one had taken our main food order yet. These are things I normally wouldn't care about but for what you pay here, the service needs to be better. The food also needs to be better. The food was fine. Not $35 a plate good. I got ravioli that had pieces of asparagus in the sauce and it was all woody ends. My partner got spaghetti bolognese that was just very average and cost $30. All up, four drinks, a shared appetizer, and two mains was $160 before tip. To me, it just wasn't worth it.

The food was very good. The swordfish was very tasty, but the portion was pretty small. Beef bolognese was good, but we have had better. The waiter was quite good and attentive.
The food is incredibly good. Killer arancini, pasta w wild mushrooms, sea bream w fennel, chocolate mousse cake and blood orange sorbetto. Heaven.
Try the Valpolicella!
My third visit to Il Casale was a big disappointment. The food was simply not very good. My pasta was overcooked and fairly bland. My daughter's eggplant parm was overcooked and oversalted. My wife's salmon was charred. She returned it, but it took forever and by the time they brought it back to the table, every one else was done and she took it to go. It's too bad, because i thought the food was excellent the first two visits to the restaurant.
Food was amazing as usual as was the service. I wish they could do something about the noise level in this restaurant. I like coming here but would love it more without the noise. Worse this time was new chairs or a new floor surface that caused an ungodly screech every time someone moved their chair. I heard they’re ordering new chairs so I hope that will fix the problem. The food in this restaurant is so good— I wish they would address the noise problem. 💜
Exceptional food choices matched only by the exceptional taste. The recommendations from our server were true treats. The aroma of traditional Italian food wraps you while you wait for your meal. Simply enjoyable.

Il Casale is a dining experience that never disappoints. The warm atmosphere, attentive service and remarkable food one can expect to be wined and dined. The Il Casale Palle small plate of two “nonna’s” meatballs, two arancini, two maiale meatballs are an amazingly tasty start to any meal. I can't resist their fresh pasta so I ordered an appetizer portion of the Tagliatelle Bolognese. The long simmered flavorful sauce was a perfect accompaniment to the fresh Tagliatelle. The evening meat special was Rack of Lamb which was cooked perfectly to order and came with roasted vegetables and grilled peaches. Another great meal prepared by a very talented kitchen staff. And our server was both attentive, pleasant and knowledgeable and the support staff were very quick to remove empty plates and refill water glasses. That being said, whenever my wife and I are looking for a great dining experience we look no further than Il Casale.
The food was wonderful, as usual. Service was good until we were finished with our meal, when our waiter disappeared. The bus staff was very attentive with clearing plates and pouring water throughout the meal, and our waiter was fine, until we were finished with the meal and could have been offered dessert, or anything, but nope. Vanished. Seemed surprised when we wanted our check. Pet peeve of mine when the servers disappear after the food has been served. Just leaves a bad tone to the rest of an otherwise pleasant experience.
lovely patio despite the busy street. Great service even at the peak hours. The waiter was knowledgable without being condescending. Great, imaginative food.
Food was excellent, wine was great. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Decor was nice. Expensive but worth it. Absolutely no complaints.
Excellent food service and value for money.
We have been to Casale many times and the food is usually outstanding. Tonight must have been an off night the calamari was extremely salty and the chicken parmigiana dish was ok, the chicken was perfectly prepared and delicious but the arugula salad was also extremely salty. Inedible! It was just that salty. Good food prepared well doesn’t need extra salt once it has been cooked.
Next visit should there be one we will ask that the food be prepared without additional salt.
It was great as always from the time I was and employee there to now being a guest. Loved seeing some of my old coworkers and Damien, it was a great experience as always. I’ll always come back, and recommend my friends to experience an evening of excellence.
