About Il Cantinori
Il Cantinori, located in Greenwich Village, has been at the forefront of Tuscan cuisine in NYC since its opening in 1983. This old farmhouse with a rustic warmth, stucco walls, wooden beams and voluminous floral arrangements is very romantic and elegant. We combine the unique traditional flavors of the Tuscan countryside with a complete seasonal lunch and dinner menu. We welcome guests with affectionate hospitality, daily specials and a wine list reflective of the northern Italian regions.

Il Cantinori Ratings and Reviews
I come to Il Cantinori every time I visit NYC, usually every January. I usually have several meals there before I leave. it's one of the finest Italian venues I've ever tasted. You always remember me and that makes me feel special...although, I am not that special. Thank you for the multiple meals I've had with you. I'll be back again in january...maybe before.
This venerable Italian restaurant close by NYU is inspired. Both front and back rooms (separated by a bar) are comfortable and allow for conversation at normal levels. The service is first rate, attentive, friendly and professional. The food is classically Italian with excellent tomato sauces, fab pasta, meat and fish entrees. This night, we began with a hen of the woods appetizer which was perfectly prepared with mushrooms over beautifully dressed greens. This was followed by Osso Buco and Lamb Chops. My only reservation was that the chops were meant to be med rare but were actually medium to well done. Tasty none the less but.... This is a beautiful restaurant and well deserving of its longevity. It remains a place to return often.
Il Cantinori is a neighborhood staple that I always love. The atmosphere is lively, the staff is always cheerful and accommodating, and it's especially festive during the holidays. The food never disappoints. The pappardelle is a crowd pleaser. I had the branzino and it was delicious. Save room for dessert. They are a treat!
Always a favorite in my book! Amazing food and the espresso martini's are worth writing home about. Everyone I invite always has a great time too. It's a special place where the waiters know you and always welcome you back with a smile and extraordinary food!
Holiday meal with very dear friend. Great table started off with martinis. Totally not rushed. We ordered a combo plate of 3 pastas. I had the truffled scaloppine and my friend had the salmon. Food was excellent. The pasta was off the charts especially the papardelle. The veal was very tender and the salmon cooked to perfection. The dessert selection was great so we tried a hazelnut gelato & biscotti that was delicious and washed it down with some double espressos and a plate of cookies. Great place for a holiday meal!
I loved the ambiance and specially decorated for the holidays. It’s dark and warm and cozy, but with a lot of space for many diners. Our waiter was lovely and surprised us with a bottle of champagne and beautiful birthday dessert platter. The bartender was very sweet and made a great cocktail!
We have been to this restaurant almost every time we have been in NYC and we have never been disappointed. We always look forward to the food selections and the service is first class. We suspect it is a neighborhood gem that we uncovered. I would highly recommend.
This restaurant was recommended by a friend. My adult daughter and I were on a special weekend vacation and we loved every minute here. The staff was professional, yet down to earth. The pasta was mind blowing. We gobbled our food down. Such a lovely and pleasant experience.
Food is absolutely delicious!! Wine we had was great as well. Server was out of it and kind of rude. Did not have a wine recommendation for us and had to go ask someone despite us being specific about what we wanted. then shone his iPhone light in our faces trying to find the bottle that he was suggesting. We asked for a full-bodied reasonably priced wine and at their prices he should absolutely be able to answer that. We also didn't have a great table - my husband had a floral arrangement basically on top of him and a leaf fell into his pasta! The food more than made up for it but I would definitely make sure I had a better table next time.
Il Cantinori is the epitome of downtown elegance. Overflowing vases with Farmer's Market branches greet you when you arrive. Fragrant roses on every table. The wine list and menu are intelligently crafted. The restaurant is usually full but absorbs the sound beautifully. A favorite thing to do is go very early and just have a glass at the Bar before the evening rush begins.
the service is amazing .. the food delicious .. always fresh ingredients .. I had hen of the woods mushrooms over arugula with parmesan that was incredible ... Than I had shrimp scampi which was light AND lemony and delicious. the waiter was very knowledgeable about the very large menu. The food is always clean and very flavorful .. they do not push food or expensive wines ... they are gentlemanly and always considerate and take in food allergies and adjust accordingly ..
I like it so much I planned my birthday there for 14 people on sunday .. Frankie the manager is so thoughtful and so warm .. he goes out of his way to help
Il Cantinori has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. Delicious food, gorgeous fresh flower arrangements, high ceilings, low lights, ambiance, perfect sound level make it a delight all around. The atmosphere is equally as good for dates, dinners with friends and family, or a just an al around lovely night out. The owner, Frank, is lovely and always welcoming. This restaurant will always be on my list of favorites.
This was my second visit and on each occasion the service experience has been unnecessarily rude and disappointing.
On both visits we were rudely greeted. I requested both during booking and when I arrived that we would like a patio table. We were even willing to wait. We were quickly rebuffed at the door.
Then we were seated at the rear of the restaurant when there were plenty of open tables in the front. We waited almost 15 minutes before anyone even came to our table, even through our waiter passed our table several times.
What is worse, it was a birthday and I noted this but no one acknowledged this yet the table next to us got a birthday wish.
I will never eat here again and neither will my friends.
