About Il Cantinori
Il Cantinori, located in Greenwich Village, has been at the forefront of Tuscan cuisine in NYC since its opening in 1983. This old farmhouse with a rustic warmth, stucco walls, wooden beams and voluminous floral arrangements is very romantic and elegant. We combine the unique traditional flavors of the Tuscan countryside with a complete seasonal lunch and dinner menu. We welcome guests with affectionate hospitality, daily specials and a wine list reflective of the northern Italian regions.

Il Cantinori Ratings and Reviews
Il Cantinori is the epitome of downtown elegance. Overflowing vases with Farmer's Market branches greet you when you arrive. Fragrant roses on every table. The wine list and menu are intelligently crafted. The restaurant is usually full but absorbs the sound beautifully. A favorite thing to do is go very early and just have a glass at the Bar before the evening rush begins.
the service is amazing .. the food delicious .. always fresh ingredients .. I had hen of the woods mushrooms over arugula with parmesan that was incredible ... Than I had shrimp scampi which was light AND lemony and delicious. the waiter was very knowledgeable about the very large menu. The food is always clean and very flavorful .. they do not push food or expensive wines ... they are gentlemanly and always considerate and take in food allergies and adjust accordingly ..
I like it so much I planned my birthday there for 14 people on sunday .. Frankie the manager is so thoughtful and so warm .. he goes out of his way to help
Il Cantinori has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. Delicious food, gorgeous fresh flower arrangements, high ceilings, low lights, ambiance, perfect sound level make it a delight all around. The atmosphere is equally as good for dates, dinners with friends and family, or a just an al around lovely night out. The owner, Frank, is lovely and always welcoming. This restaurant will always be on my list of favorites.
This was my second visit and on each occasion the service experience has been unnecessarily rude and disappointing.
On both visits we were rudely greeted. I requested both during booking and when I arrived that we would like a patio table. We were even willing to wait. We were quickly rebuffed at the door.
Then we were seated at the rear of the restaurant when there were plenty of open tables in the front. We waited almost 15 minutes before anyone even came to our table, even through our waiter passed our table several times.
What is worse, it was a birthday and I noted this but no one acknowledged this yet the table next to us got a birthday wish.
I will never eat here again and neither will my friends.
Everything from start to finish was amazing at our recent visit to il Cantinori. Our server, Guisseppe was very knowledgeable and led us through the menu from appetizers to dessert exceptionally. My husband said it was the single best dining experience he has had in NYC! Needless to say, we will return on our next special occasion! Thanks again, Joseph. We really enjoyed our dinner!
Our waiter Domenico made a special evening for us suggesting specially plated appetizer plate with 3 choices and a small pasta plate with a taste of 2 great choices. Then most of us had the rib eye special that frankly had too much meat. I’ve never sent meat back to the kitchen but this tasty dish was huge. Great ambience with a table half outdoor and a warm and sincere waiter who made the meal special. Will always come back on future trips.
Third time visit. Il Cantinori is very well-located between Washington Sq and Union Sq, and has a very pleasant space, including an atrium-type large dining room, where the noise level is lower than in front near the bar. Service is excellent and attentive. The wine list is good, though not particularly inexpensive. They have, for example, a very good Abruzzi Aglianico. Food has been uneven, though many diners enjoyed the dishes. They put quite a lot of salt in the pasta dishes, I noticed, though they are tasty. The prices are pretty high, reflecting the location.
I have eaten at Il Cantinori a number of times over the last year and I am never disappointed with the food and the service. The specials are always excellent but everything on the menu is delicious. The atmosphere is perfect and all the staff there are friendly, courteous and could not be more helpful. Whether it is a family dinner, date night, special occasion or a business dinner I highly recommend Il Cantinori - one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC...
Our dinner was amazing, we were a party of three best friends from college celebrating a milestone birthday in NYC - this restaurant was recommended by a friend that lives in the city, and it was a true highlight of the weekend!!! I will always go back when Im in the city - I LOVED it!!!!
I am a frequent traveler to NY--mostly to visit-- and I dine at Il Cantinori every time. The owner greeted us as we walked in, recognized us, and showed us to a very nice table. He is very friendly. The meal was excellent as usual. The homemade pastas and specials are great. Service was very good. I highly recommend Il Cantinori!!
The best part of the menu were the amuse-gueules (a tomato-bread dish), which were a tasty seasonal fare. The Calamari alla Carbonella we ordered as starters were not whole squid as advertised on the menu but tasteless dry rings of calamari which could not be saved by the rather interesting herb and garlic seasoning. As a main dish we ordered Farfalle al Tonno (which was advertised by the waiter to be bow tie pasta covered with sushi quality lightly seared tuna) and what we got was a decent pasta with pea sized pieces of fully cooked tuna mixed in. The service was friendly but incompetent as virtually every dish was placed in front of the wrong person. All of this would be barely acceptable in a little corner restaurant with no ambitions but not here when you consider the image this restaurant is projecting and the amount of the check. As this was a business event we let it go but we definitely will not be back.
Always perfection at Il Cantinori. From the lovely staff to the incredible food, this place is our favorite in the city. I love that it always fits the bill for a special occasion meal but also for an evening out with friends or a business dinner. The specials are always unique, fresh and perfectly prepared and the regular menu has wonderful pasta and fish, chicken and meat dishes. Bottom line, once you eat there, it will become your go to spot for any meal you want to be special and always perfectly executed. Thank you once again for another perfect meal.
Had a wonderful evening. Food was very delicious and a super high quality. The menu had dishes you know but prepared in new ways. Everything was the freshest and highest quality. sitting outside on a beautiful night was transportive
