My wife and I love Italian food, but Italian restaurants rarely have many, if any, low carb options. So, we have not gone to an Italian restaurant in quite a while.
This was our first experience dining at iL
Calabrese, and we will undoubtedly return many, many more times in the future. It is Italian, so there are plenty of pasta and carb options, but there are also options available for those of us who choose to limit carbs most of the time.
On top of the menu options, the food we had was quite exceptional. Flavorful. Well spiced. Truly Italian. Cannot wait to check-out their Cioppino.
We didn’t have drinks on this occasions, but it is definitely a place to stop and enjoy drinks with friends, family, and work groups.
The staff was very helpful and attentive. Israel was our waiter. He was wonderful and very informative... answering all of our questions with ease.
We dined between the Sunday brunch and dinner crowds, so it is very quiet. We were honored to have the chef come to the table and help in delivering our food.
Don’t hesitate when looking for an Italian dining option - Make it iL Calabrese!!!
This is the second trip to IL Calabrese. We had reservations and table was nice near the front. The service seemed really bent on getting us out as soon as possible. There were plenty of tables around that no one was even seated. I had to ask for the specials and waiter seemed indifferent.
We ordered drinks and was rushed through ordering.
We ordered our appetizers and then dinner. The bruschetta and calamari were very good.
Back to the rush part, we were not even close to being done with our appetizers when they rushed out our dinner. The pizza margarita was more like cheese toast with a couple tomatoes on it. There were some good dishes, the ravioli was delicious. The sea bass excellent. But it hard to enjoy your dinner when the waiter is trying to clean plates as soon as one person was done.
We were still working on our wine and finishing up dinner when I was presented the check.
Luciano has a great place. A great Branzino dish, great wine options, staff is friendly, the ambiance is nice, and some of the best guitarist often playing...
This restaurant is consistently very good all around.
Beautiful restaurant with good service but food was not great
Our waitress was great. The food was amazing as always. Never a bad meal!
Thank you to the staff for reacting quickly when the weather turned cold and for moving us inside. It was perfect! Food and service was wonderful. I would suggest placing “reserved” sign on patio tables. We did have a problem when we were being escorted to our table and there were no outside tables because “friends of friends “ were coming in from the parking lot, dragging tables together, then we did not have a table. People are rude, be prepared!
Love this restaurant, the staff always make you feel special.
Dining event at Il Calabrese was very good. We had 6, 1/2 thought their dishes were outstanding and 1/2 thought they were good. Restaurant is nice though actual individual seats were average and not especially comfortable. Service was very good, noise level was good though would suggest some light background music or even a performer would be appealing. First time brunch there and it was fine although Easter Sunday the full brunch menu was not available. Overall a good experience, no complaints from our party and as the previous multiple times we've eaten there, enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone.
Invited friends for Easter Sunday brunch. Everyone enjoyed their dinners. Service was excellent.
Our reservation was for our party of 7 for Easter brunch. The food and atmosphere were really great, I just wish there were a few more “brunchy” items on the menu. Overall we were happy- Brian took good care of us!
Highly recommend the Happy Hour drinks and appetizers. Group of 5 shared several entrees after sharing 3 appetizers and was plenty of food. Just the right portions. Fresh, very good tasting ingredients. Ryan was an excellent server to our group!
I guess it depends of the time and day, but don't go there when it's not busy. I have been there on a busy night and the food was delicious. I went on Sunday early evening and there were hardly any other people. This time the food was really not what we expected. The portions were smaller than in the evening and the food was very Oily. Especially the Ravioli, which are a signature dish were soaked with oil. All our dishes just did not feel fresh.
Great staff and very attentive.
Brunch on Sunday is wonderful. Pancakes yum!
Excellent food and service for a fair price (brunch).
Anniversary-it was noted on the reservation but not acknowledged. Wrong food was delivered but another server stepped in and recovered for the other server. Brought soup while they were getting the right food.
We went for our anniversary and were disappointed to see lack of dress code enforced on a Saturday evening. Ex. Ball caps, shorts and flip flops seemed acceptable attire. Would recommend because the food was excellent and service was good. Just not as a place for special occasion. It’s a beautiful restaurant inside but was reduced to Olive Garden status for me
Or son's 16 birthday
Waiter was okay. However, we had to get our on balsamic vinegar from the counter. The food was very good
Best Italian Restaurant in the Mid cities! Very good!!
Il Calabrese is highly rated on a couple of consumer rating sites, so we wanted to try it. My husband and I enjoy good Italian restaurants. The setting, ambiance and service are quite nice. The night we were there a guitarist was playing (very good) jazzy guitar in the lobby. Compared to the price range listed on most sites for this restaurant, we thought the actual entree prices were quite a bit higher. The quality of the food was not proportionately better than lesser-priced restaurants, either. In fact, we thought our main entree dishes were okay, not great. Our salads were okay, not great, though they were generously sized. Perhaps we did not order well.
Everything was wonderful
Delicious. Food, great drinks & wine. A lovely evening!
Fabulous food and service. Best Italian food in Dallas area
Best Italian in the area. I had several that I frequent. This is my new favorite
This is the best Italian in the area
A small group of us were in town for a conference and went here as a change of pace instead of the standard high end steakhouse. Boy were we happy we did. There's so much to say about the meal that I could go on for pages. Let me just simply say, it was an amazing meal and I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing meal in a great atmosphere.
The food was great and the live music was a nice accompaniment because it wasn’t too loud or overbearing. Our only problem was our table was near some doors that led to a patio and the draft was awful! But otherwise loved it and will def come back
Service is normally a 4-5 star experience. This time it was not. We will definitely go back as I am confident they will fix this issue
A beautiful restaurant with nice ambiance. The waitress was very nice but inexperienced. Our cocktails and salad were delivered at the same time which was ridiculous. Luckily the salad could just sit there while we had our cocktails and we made sure not to order the entree until ready to eat it as the waitress didn’t know a thing about timing the delivery of the food. I had salmon wrapped in an envelope of pasta, very little salmon and an overwhelmingly garlic taste. My husband had the cioppino and he said the broth was too thin and lacking in taste. We thought the wine prices were way too high and wines by the glass are served with 3 or 6 ounces of wine. Three ounces of wine is a new one on me, stupid. I doubt we would return.
Food was good and service. the arrangements of tables needs to be thought out . We were sitting next to a very loud party of 6. The restaurant was not full at the time of our reservation at 5:30 they sat us directly across from the 6 top table. Are fault for not requesting another table so our special occasion was not enjoyable.
It was a great experience
Food was great but, for what I paid on Valentines Day it should've been outstanding. Disappointing that it was never communicated that there was going to be such an expensive Valentines Day menu. Pricing was just way to much for the quality of the food.
Extremely disappointed that no one mentioned the Valentine's Day "special". I was only made aware of the $75 per person menu after we were seated at the table. I chose your restaurant specifically for the gluten free menu options for my date, and my familiarity with your everyday menu. I was not prepared to spend $250 for dinner and drinks. I have eaten at your restaurant before, and was not expecting a bargain, but this menu was not in my price range. I was simply not able to afford such a meal, and we had to leave. I was humiliated. If you want to gouge your guests on Valentine's Day, that's certainly your right as a business. However, to not inform your guests of your special menu and price is extremely poor form. Our Valentine's Day was ruined. It might benefit you to understand that just because you are in Southlake, no all of your patrons are wealthy. This was to be a special occasion for us. It ended up being anything but.
Sitting next to the serving station, listening to the kitchen staff shout over to the pizza oven guy is less than romantic. All the servers enjoyed slamming the drawers to get out silverware. If you have a discerning pallet, this place is not for you. The appetizers. More is not better. Bruschetta was barely toasted and piled high with highly refrigerated tomatoes. Soggy mess. The calamari was chewy and loaded with excess grease. The pasta entrees were low in flavor. High cost and low value sums it up for us. The server tried to make things as good as possible. We will never go back to this place - it was a disaster!
First time there was for lunch in Jan. Was impressed enough I went for Valentine's Day, not impressed. Ear shaped pasta was hard, sat upstairs and the high booth tables and felt like a kid because of the table height (5'10"). Air was freezing and the table bottom was covered in dried pasta, pepperoni pieces and a spoon. Told the waiter, he picked up everything but the spoon! Not my best experience for the money. Could have had the same experience at Joes pizza and pasta.
We have been to il Calabrese many times and have always enjoyed the dining experience. However, on this occasion, I ordered a $49.00 steak, with the expectation that it would rival that of an upscale steak restaurant. I was very disappointed when it was served barely warm and almost cold. I sent it back, and they cooked it more. It was returned “warmer”, and over-cooked. What bothered me the most is that no one bothered to acknowledge the error or apologizing for disrupting our meal. Terrible experience, for what we paid.
Food was wonderful and the service was excellent. Highly recommend the desserts. The pear and almond cake with salted carmel ice cream was amazing!
The place is super loud and seating is tight. Food had nice presentation but over priced.
It was just an ok dinner for us.
