Il Brigante Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I typically don't write reviews - positive or negative - for restaurants I have only patronized once. It doesnt seem fair in most instances. I will make an exception in this case. Do not eat here. Ever. We had an 8:30 reservation... We weren't seated until 9:15. That is ok - this is an NYC restaurant on a Friday night, and delays are to be expected. However, the GM (I assume) was very unprofessional about it. When we were finally seated, we were not seen by waitstaff for nearly 20 minutes, and that was to inform us we needed to move tables so that the owners family could sit together. After we moved we didn't see anyone for another 15 minutes. The food was below average at best. Twice during our business dinner, the Happy Birthday Song came on (at a volume level that startled everyone in the restaurant), the lights dimmed, and the staff brought out a dessert with a sprarkler. I couldn't help but laugh. I wasn't sure if it was a bit the first time - the second time, when the dessert was delivered to our former table, I knew it was real. I can't describe it - it was embarassing to have picked this spot for a business dinner. After we paid, our server chased us to the car asking for a signed copy of the receipt. We left one on the table. She would not let our car leave - I had to go back inside and show her the receipt, which was on the table where we left it.
The whole thing was laughable. Funny things happen at restuarants, but for the money you can find better Italian without the Applebee's vibe.
It was our first time at Il Brigante, and recommended by a friend who lives in the neighborhood. The atmosphere was vibrant, our waitress and waiter were both lovely and the food was top notch authentic Italian food. Our entree came out SO quick. Id come back in a heart beat. 5* STARS FOR IL BRIGANTE. Keep up the great work.
What a great find! Tucked into one of the cobblestone streets at the Seaport, you get that cozy feeling. Got there at 6:00, only a few tables were occupied. By 7:00, the restaurant was at capacity. When we left, people were waiting outside. Also noticed that it was being patronized by the neighborhood folks. Good sign.
Half of my party showed late, but Sara, our waitress, was very accommodating and did not cop an attitude.
Food was absolutely delicious. Every one of us enjoyed our meal. Will definitely be back and I have already spread the word.
Never treated so poorly by any restaurant ever!!! Not only did they not honor our reservation, but after waiting 40 minutes they took in some loud mouth bully who was a friend of the owner? manager? This bully then proceeded to yell, curse and try to intimidate myself & my 18 yr old daughter! He picked the wrong 2 girls... Again, worse experience ever, and we didn't even eat there. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS DUMP!!!!!!!
As noted in the past, this has become a "go-to" for business lunches of all occasions. This time it was to welcome some new additions out of college. The food was great - we had the fired calamari and burrata for appetizers. Several gnocchi and ravioli dishes were ordered much to everyone's enjoyment.
Went here since it had all good reviews. The food was great!!! Unfortunately the service..... not so much. Constantly we were looking for our waiter who by the end of the meal completely disappeared. Never did he ask how the meal was, they filled my water up once, which they filled it up a quarter of the way, and we actually had to physically bring our check up to pay and then The Who I would call the manager, put it in a pile and said he'd get to it. At this point l, we had already been waiting over 30 minutes just to pay. Unacceptable!! I would probably go back one more time because the food was very good, but there are a lot of good restaurants in NYC.... so maybe not.
This was our second visit to Il Brigante and it was just as good as the first time. We live in Florida, but visit the city often and this gem will stay on our must-do list. The food is fantastic. Our friends from Tasmania had a different idea of what marinara is, and were expecting seafood with their pasta. When it was "just" tomato sauce, they inquired about it. The waitress was sweet enough to offer a side of mixed seafood to add to the dish. Problem solved! The pasta dishes are superb, but this trip we had two lamb specials and they were just as good. It's a small place, so make reservations! It's definitely worth the trip downtown!
Made a reservation, but the place was so crowded that we waited 1/2 hour to get our table.
Very disorganized, they were trying to be accommodating but my dad is diabetic and has to eat on schedule so this was very worrisome. Had to ask for water to be replenished often. We felt like they were short on help. The food was ok but not memorable.
Love the atmosphere of this place, which is casual and very European-feeling. Staff was attentive, non-intrusive, ever-available and really nice. Thought the food was good and tasty, but not very out of the ordinary. Solid and competent, can't go wrong, but you won't be taken over the moon. Which isn't always necessary. A great option in the financial district.
GREAT place I found on Open Table and was really psyched how great it was! Cute place - they only serve beer and wine - just an alert. We started out with burrata cheese and tomato and the sausage w broccoli rabe - DELICIOUS! I had spaghetti con vongole - I'm VERY picky! Waiter said they're known for it so I took his advice and was HUGLEY pleased! DELICIOUS! My friends has pizza, pasta w sausage, and chicken and sausage - all plates cleaned and happy visitors! Then we finished up with one of the best tiramisus I've had in a looooony time! Our waiter and the manager were on point - no rush (and it got crowded!) and very charming! Definitely a "go to" when I'm in NyC!
