We were in New York for the holidays and reserved a table for new years eve 8pm. We are not the type of people who are angry about 20 minutes of waiting if the restaurant is full, even if we reserved a table. But what happened at Brigante was a disaster and absolutely unprofessional in every way.
People who reserved a table for 7pm already stood OUTSIDE in the cold (it was -14 degree celsius this night) because the restaurant was full of sitting and standing people waiting for their table. We were friendly and were waiting some time. But after one hour we were pretty disappointed about being ignored and even affronted by the boss and the service team.
After 1,5 hours we left the restaurant and got a table instantly at the restaurant just vis a vis (which I can highly recommend by the way)!
Have been here many times with both small and larger groups and it has never disappointed. The food is fresh and made to order.
Being Italian, I appreciate all the staff being italian and being able to chat with them and having an appreciation for what they are serving.
The place is one room and intimate as a trattoria should be.
I recommend it without hesitation.
I typically don't write reviews - positive or negative - for restaurants I have only patronized once. It doesnt seem fair in most instances. I will make an exception in this case. Do not eat here. Ever. We had an 8:30 reservation... We weren't seated until 9:15. That is ok - this is an NYC restaurant on a Friday night, and delays are to be expected. However, the GM (I assume) was very unprofessional about it. When we were finally seated, we were not seen by waitstaff for nearly 20 minutes, and that was to inform us we needed to move tables so that the owners family could sit together. After we moved we didn't see anyone for another 15 minutes. The food was below average at best. Twice during our business dinner, the Happy Birthday Song came on (at a volume level that startled everyone in the restaurant), the lights dimmed, and the staff brought out a dessert with a sprarkler. I couldn't help but laugh. I wasn't sure if it was a bit the first time - the second time, when the dessert was delivered to our former table, I knew it was real. I can't describe it - it was embarassing to have picked this spot for a business dinner. After we paid, our server chased us to the car asking for a signed copy of the receipt. We left one on the table. She would not let our car leave - I had to go back inside and show her the receipt, which was on the table where we left it.
The whole thing was laughable. Funny things happen at restuarants, but for the money you can find better Italian without the Applebee's vibe.
Authentic restaurant with excellent service and outstanding food. Will definitely go back.
Really enjoyed the meal, the space and the service
Very authentic and delicious Italian food, ambiance and service. We had an early supper (4 pm) so the noise level was zero. Good time to go if noise bothers you.
So cute with birthdays! Many menu items and entrees are witty showing up for
Great Food, staff and Wine. Only complaint was the wait for the table. We had a reservation for 7:30pm and we were seated at 8:10pm
Food was really good. Some nice options! Staff was helpful. I really enjoyed it.
