Il Bolognese on Ocean Ratings and Reviews
Enjoyed the quiet ambiance of the restaurant and service was very good. The dinner entrees however were only fair. The lobster tortellini first came out cold, and the light tomato cream sauce was not light but heavy in crushed tomato. The lobster in the surf and turf was over cooked.
Server looked like they didn't know how to multi-task, wasn't wearing a name tag but had a european maybe russian accent ? she was a brunette - Server would bring 1 thing out at a time rather than several. Table besides us (4 top) got their food at the same time we got ours and we were there (also a table of 4) 25 minutes prior. They did mention the kitchen was behind but they didn't say anything about the servers. I understand it was a busy lunch but she was just not attentive to any of her tables. It seemed like it didn't matter since dining down there gets them an auto grat therefore they don't "have" to give good service. The food was incredibly bland, it took 15 minutes to get the worst bloody marys we had ever had. We tried to doctor them at the table by adding pepper, hot sauce, worcestershire sauce but they were just cheap tomato juice and no saving them. We tried to drink them and when she asked if they were ok, we were unsure, but when we asked to changed, she had the audacity to say "i asked you if they were ok" - completely uncalled for. If anything we were trying to give her less work - We all settled for Stellas instead and thankfully they took those drinks away. The food arrived and it was ok, appearance was better, but the taste was very bland, ask another server to please bring some parm cheese and they must have forgotten, we had to ask twice. Food just wasn't worth it. When it came to pay, we told the server to split it by dish, apparently that was to be mentioned at the beginning of the meal. Just wasn't very accommodating especially considering the lack of taking care. I would watch her run into the kitchen and come out with 1 drink, then she would go back and come back with 1 spoon. It was mind baffling, the hostess hardly helped, just standing their taking selfies and videos of the parade rather than keeping an eye on the tables and assisting the servers. Two words to describe this dining experience "hot mess". Would not recommend AT ALL.
Booked a last minute reservation. We were accommodated quickly and the service was very good. Since we were in South Beach the prices were high and value only good. In particular we ordered an antipasto appetizer special and we got surprised that the price was $32, a little too high for the value. Limited amount of steak on the steak/salad combo but my Grouper was very good just not very hot.
Here for New Year's Eve - previous reviews mentioned to sit on the second floor and I requested the second floor when I booked the reservation. However, it was a great night and A LOT of great energy outside so when we arrived, we requested - and were granted - an outside table. Great place to people watch, food was amazing and Roberto - our waiter - very attentive for such a busy night. We were with three teenagers and it was a hit. The seating was tight, but we made some friends with the table next door. Fun night!
Lovely setting for New Year Eve. Service was top notch and food was great. Make sure to ask the price of specials. We had a wee surprise at the price of the special we ordered. It was was good but we sure wouldn't have ordered it if we had known it was $75.
The positive is that the outdoor atmosphere is inviting and great. Unfortunately, that is our only positive. The service was subpar and the food was not good at all. The lasagna was burnt and didn't even taste like lasagna. The bolognese dish was bland and also not really edible. The spaghetti special was greasy and unappetizing. No one in our party enjoyed their meal. We won't be returning.
The main strength of this restaurant is that it has comfortable, covered, outdoor dinning, right in the heart of the historic art deco section of South Beach. It was wonderful to relax, have a good meal, and enjoy being there. The service is warm and friendly. The food is very good. Not cheap but worth the price for the overall experience. Will definitely go back.
Four of us had different pasta dishes that were pretty tasty. The other two ordered lasagna and both were served burnt until black. How does a cook and a server both ignore that and let it go out? What about the person that watches quality control? Wasn't there? They did graciously replace both dinners, but I can't recommend this restaurant after that.
Service was good, food had great flavors, however for three dishes of pasta (no seafood) and a seafood soup and a couple of saladas $281 was too much! The server did not bring detailed invoice to the table, and told service was not included and it was! so we end up paying $320 for a four people lunch, no wine!
Il Bolognese on Ocean is a great restaurant with a diverse menu of Italian classics, seafood, and some wonderful specials! We had the special filet mignon with a wine truffle sauce, served on a bed of mushroom risotto, which was divine! Juan at the bar serves creative, hand crafted cocktail with a twist and made some great recommendations on wine also! To top things off, all of the staff are so friendly and engaging, they always make us feel so welcome! A must visit in SOBE!
Good food and wine, but overprized. The service was allright until we said no to desert. Then they tried to get us out asap. And then the waiter didnt bother to bring back the change, so the service charge beacame a lot more than they deserve. We payed around 160 for two main courses and a bottle of wine.
Beware of this Tourist trap! The good part ended with the bread. Wine at 12$ a glass was terrible. We were a party of 5 with teenagers kids. Ordered 3 appetizer. Beef carpaccio was tasteless. Wasn't sure it was beef. The bruschetta wasn't a bruschetta . It was a kind of a tasteless paper thin dough. We should have gotten it then and leave but we were unfortunately too hungry and too tired. Then came the pasta. Never had something so poorly made. My 6 year old suddenly said she's not hungry anymore. I returned my first mushroom pasta and asked for a 4 cheese gnocchi . Then came a group of white little balls drowning in watery "cream sauce" . Four cheese? Really? 230$ down the drain. The only thing we all left with was a severe belly ache. What a shame.
