il Barone Ristorante
The Orange County Register’s Brad Johnson states; “Il Barone actually has a soul. The cooking is solid and precise, steeped in tradition and clearly weighted with heart and experience.”
Chef Francesco Barone has created a menu representative of his Italian heritage which emphasizes fresh high quality ingredients prepared with care and served in a modern and elegant atmosphere.
Food was superb and the menu was great
Chicken park was amazing however the waiter persuaded us to order the veal special... he did not say that it was $60 for just the veal and it was not worth it. Very dry, no sauce only a side of arugula( pointless). The service was great and the ambiance was great. For the price we could have gone to Ruth’s Chris or lawrys and gotten soup or salad the main entree and desert for the same price as 1 piece of dry veal.
$40 corking fee 😝
My husband treated our kids and me for Mothers Day and it was fabulous. The hostess as well as our waitress were very professional yet friendly. My daughter is gluten free and our waitress went out of her way to ask the chef to make some gf gnocchi for her and it was excellent. We will definitely be returning the next time we are in the area.
Chef Franco is incredible, the pasta is house made and sauced perfectly. I’ve had a different special fish entree the last two times and both were incredible. Fabulous service and you always feel welcomed.
The food is quite good, but very dependent on the wishes of the chef. Fish is not a regular on the menu, but we were lucky that the chef had two "market" selections, Sole and Branzino available. Four of our party of five was split between the two, but both choices were well prepared and delicious. I wish I had joined them because I ordered the pork chop, and it was less appealing. An enormous piece of meat that was not at all tender. The Pepperkorn sauce was good, but little of that flavor penetrated the meat.
Salads, Soups were ordered and quite good. The waiter was well trained, as he did not offer fresh ground pepper on the soups. To do so is an insult to the chef. All in all a very nice meal with good friends.
The new location for Il Barone is lovely and a huge step up from the old.
The owners have so much passion and pride for what they do
They make you feel so appreciated and Welcoming
The servers are very professional the Special are the highlight must try
Unassuming restaurant in strip mall. The food was very good. Excellent homemade pasta and veal chop.
I would recommend il Barone for its menu, however, individual parties need to take a risk on the service. When it was all booked with various parties, it was very noisy. We did not get any attention from our waitress at all. She cited the specials without passion and disappeared. We waved at her multiple times but she never stopped at our table or looked in our direction until she submitted the bill, which already included 20% gratuity (we were a party of 7).
Our first time at il Barone, but friends had highly recommended it. Their new location - they refurbished an old Coco’s. We went in at 6:00, and they were empty. But by the time we left, they were busy. The atmosphere is the typical ‘American / Italian restaurant’. Not sure is the staff is really Italian, or just pretend to be. Not an issue. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The wait staff was very attentive, until it got busy. Then, they seemed overwhelmed. Thus making the dinner a bit long. I thought that a ‘simple, date night’ should not take over 2 hours. The food was excellent. The portions were a bit small. But, nothing out of the ordinary. I’ll definitively be back. Also, I’m now interested in the other property that they own - Ti Amo.
Always a great meal and experience.
I do not do Veal or Fish, but they had a nice selection of chicken dishes and pasta. I had Chicken Milanese and it was really good, cooked perfectly.
Ordered chicken marsala, received veal. I do not eat veal. No apology given. Then ordered chicken parmigiana...came out inedible, tough and chewy. Super expensive.
Delicious, as always!
Authentic Italian Food
Great hospitality and wonderful food! AAAAAAAAAAAAA
Really like the new location. Tables are more private and overall noise level is excellent because of the break of the room into two areas. Food was spectacular, try the white fish carpaccio wonderful. The tomahawk streak was a hit, the truffle ravioli and the fish stew were all excellent.
It was delicious! Our waitress was so knowledgeable and fun!!
What a wonderful evening! The food was scrumptious, the service was excellent, and the ambiance was perfect!
As always il Barone delivered a perfect experience. From the welcome to the food we had a blast! This is by far the best Italian food in SoCal... PERIOD. Great job to the team.
Best Italian in Orange County-always our favorite night out
Birthday dinner. Acknowledged it when we signed in. After that, literally the worst service we have ever received. Long, long wait times between any waiter appearances. After two hours! of frustration, they brought the dessert menu and never offered anything for the birthday. It was all a shock.
Unfortunately I will not recommend or be back again, our server was very sweet but service was poor and food was mediocre, the owners need to remember that ALL customers are important and deserve superior service and food in order to sustain their business, the 3rd time was definitely NOT the charm....
This is a great restaurant. Martine has been our waitstaff for every visit and she is attentive and excellent. The service is great and the food is good. The noise level grows as the evening wears on.
Been here a few times - fantastic food - amazing service - all around wonderful experiences each time.
Great food, great smiles, great service and attention to detail as always.
Outstanding food and service. And very quiet on a Sunday night.
Overall this is a very good Italian restaurant with a warm, comfortable atmosphere. We loved the old restaurant and service was terrific. The food continues to be terrific. But for the 2nd time, we experienced the same annoying service issues. After being greeted by the maitre d, we waited about 10 minutes or so to be seated; not because a table wasn't available; just because they can't get their act together for some unknown reason; it is annoying. After being seated, it took more than 5 minutes to be greeted by a waiter...a kiss of death. Then add more than 10 minutes until we actually received our drink.
OK: the bad stuff is over...the food is terrific and worth eating at this restaurant. Hoping that this review will be read by owners/mgt to link the service experience with the food
Outstanding food and attentive service- will definitely be back
Very professional group in one of OC’s best restaurants. Fantastic service and food you’ll find nowhere else.
Food and service a 10 +
Il Barone does not disappoint
Fabulous evening as usual, on a busy Saturday evening. Food was delicious. So special for our Birthday gal. We all love Il Barone Ristorante!! Thank you for a great evening.
The service, food, and presentation were impeccable. I would suggest this to anyone who is looking for a special dining experience. The waiter Francesco, and the owner's Donatella made it that much more special. Their specials are fun and delicious. Try the homemade limoncello. They make you feel like your Part of the family
Looking forward in coming back real soon
Everything was fine except the markup on an average bottle of wine was 300% (retail is about $26 and price there was $80.) If we go again we will definitely bring our own wine and pay the $30 corkage.
Tast if food is very poor and is not related to the Italian cuisine
Very good ambiance and attentive service.
Good place for business lunches.
Family owned, make sure you to hear the specials
Excellent service excellent experience ❤️
The veal masala came as a shank. It had very little taste and was extremely tough to cut. My spaghetti (veal and beef) was delicious, perfect. The wine was excellent. The ambiance was ok. I ate there when it was a Coco's and its tough for me to drop the image. The service was very good.
Simply amazing. Best italian romantic spot. Had a wonderful evening. Thank you il Barone.
