II Samuels Restaurant
Our evening menu changes weekly and is kept relatively small for the purpose of innovation and simplicity. We offer small and large portions of most entrées. All menu items are offered with suggested wine pairings from our wine cellar, which contains over 100 varietals
We really enjoyed the duo, Not Even Brothers. We came because of them, but we also enjoy this restaurant,
Our experience was awesome. The wait staff was very attentive. Very relaxed but refined environment.
Great evening, very enjoyable food with excellent service and timing.
We arrived and the door was still locked. We were seated at the front very close to the bar and door which created more foot traffic and bar noise then if we would have been seated towards the back of the restaurant. The bar service was terrible. I ordered a vodka martini and it was put in a rocks glass over ice, when the server returned it to the bar the bartender seemed a little frustrated but strained it and put it in a chilled martini glass. The wine poor was very limited, more like a tasting poor, which is what I thought she brought to the table at first. The server was not knowledgeable of the menu items and a little forgetful, but she was very nice and did check on the table often. Over all the food was okay it was not the best and my flat iron steak came out cold, the risotto, which is the side for many menu items, was more like overcooked rice pudding with an almost nonexistent flavor. You would think if it were the side to so many dishes on the menu they would have at least provided something that was edible. This was in small bowl and which you could turn over and it would not fall out.
My wife’s steak was not cooked medium well twice so she just ate it the second time.
Normally best fried oysters in Spartanburg. Not quite perfect this past time. Caesars salad not up to par. Still love the place!
My husband was traveling on business so I decided to make reservations at a place we had never been. I was impressed with the menu so I made a late Valentine reservation. We arrived a little early but was seated very quick. The normal menu wasn’t going to be an option so I was a little nervous that I had made a bad choice. It couldn’t have been further from the truth! Sparkling Rose’ and a delicious appetizer was brought to our table. We then were presented with a special Valentines menu to select our next 4 courses and dessert. The ambiance made us feel we were the only two people there. Every course was impeccable & the service was efficient. I have decided out of our 34 years together, this was our best one yet!!
Excellent service, and really good food. Went here for valentine's day and it was perfect.
I would but not with a special menu, I would have loved to try something from the online menu. Other then that it was good
Wait staff not interested in offering additional drinks, I.e. a glass of wine or cocktail or Coffee for dessert.
The secondary room is falling far behind the ambience of the main one.
Valentine's Day menu had it's weaknesses (chewy asparagus, small size fish).
There are much better places to dine-out for less than 145 USD for 2 people.
Waitress was awesome; very friendly and dedicated.
Valentines Day Dinner. Had a pre-selected menu 4 course meal with glass of champagne included.
Starters were tasty, ahi tuna wontons and She crab soup. Main course was divine, Poached Salmon and a Beef Wellington that melted in my mouth, sides with twice baked potatoes and grilled asparagus. Dessert was chocolate mousse and a cookies and cream skillet. Everything was soooo delish
Service was good however training must be the issue. IE asked for coffee after meal. Coffee arrived but no cream, sugar, spoon. asked the server however still got no spoon. Hard to stir hot coffee with finger.
Sat next to private dining room with a large event going on. The noise level (speeches, clapping, servers going in and out) was very annoying. Also we were pretty close to the table next to us and could hear most of their conversations. Not the quiet, private dinner we were hoping for. Food and service were very good, as usual.
Excellent filet and grilled Caesar salad. Wonderful appetizers and superb service!!
Excellent food and service. My only negative is that music was far too loud and interfered with conversation.
The fried oyster appetizer was excellent. Service is always wonderful along with the cocktails.
When I arrived I was a little reluctant as its in a strip mall. Those fears faded away as I looked at the menu. The menu was vast and the specials were James Beard-esque in creativity. I had the veal chop and it was delicious. In fact, everything we had there was awesome. What makes it even better was the price point. I would have anticipated with the quality of the meal that it would have been 2x our actual price. Do yourself a favor and venture in the next time your in Spartanburg, you’ll be nicely surprised.
Our last visit to II Samuels was wonderful, so we returned to celebrate a very special occasion. Unfortunately, we had two big disappointments during this visit. My wife ordered a pork tenderloin dinner and the pork was served rare - still very pink in the middle. Pork should be cooked through. Then, when we received the bill, we noticed we were charged $13 or $14 for the glasses of wine we ordered, which on the menu were listed for $5. When we asked about this we were told there is a 2 oz pour and a 5 oz pour, and we received the latter, which is more expensive. This is not very clear on the wine list.
The food was great, the drinks were great, the food was small for a 6'4'' 250 lb. man's taste, but I was expecting it and OK with it. I really liked the brussel sprouts, and I have never said those words and not sure that I spelled it right.
It was my wife's Birthday and she thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant. Friends, who have never been there, asked if I would go back and I expressed that I would and they now plan on going, because of those words from me. Thanks for your making Spartanburg a better place to dine.
Seated immediately. Excellent service by our waiter. Attentive but not overbearing. Food excellent.
I expect more based on other reviews, but the overall experience of having a workday lunch at II Samuels wasn’t negative. Had to ask the waitress twice for lemon for my water (when ordering and a second time). The food was good. I may try dining there one evening to assess the atmosphere, but I wasn’t impressed to the point that I absolutely must go back.
My friend and I were excited to try II Samuels for restaurant week. We looked up the menu beforehand so knew what we wanted to order. The seared tuna bites were great, but I wasn’t as impressed when the entree or dessert. The menu read that there would be a sweet potato and brussel sprout hash with my entree, but it looked like sweet mashed potatoes to me. Similarly, the banana pudding was supposed to have Bourbon caramel on it, but I didn’t see any. The food wasn’t bad, just wasn’t what I was expecting. I’d go back to try something else.
My wife and I frequently visit II Samuels. It is one of our favorite place. The staff is exceptional, especially Brooke.
We went to dinner for our 43rd anniversary. We had the veal picatta and it was excellent. Enjoyed a glass of champagne and a bottle of Wente Savignon Blanc.
Very good and consistent with quality. Friendly wait staff and a good place for a romantic dinner. Weekdays it is nice and quiet so you can hear each other talk. Not tried the weekend yet but I’m guessing it might be a bit louder but still tolerable. Food is delicious and ingredients are fresh. This is one of our favorite places in Spartanburg.
This was a first time visit for us. The food was excellent, service great and the music was not too loud. We will likely come again when in the area.
Wonderful experience. Liz was our server and she was great. We know her the Carolina Club. Great evening. Excellent food. Will return.
Wee enjoyed excellent service and food. The only negative for me was the noise level.
Great place with exceptional food and awesome service! We can’t wait to dine again!
This is a hidden gem in Spartanburg! I literally NEVER write reviews....for ANYTHING....and I feel like this was such an awesome dining experience that I just have to compliment them the only way I know how. The fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese and fried pickles for appetizers - AmAzInG! The veal, the fried chicken, the flank steak, the stuffed portebello - AmAzInG! The drinks, the deserts I’m telling you WERE ALL AMAZING!!! Please go treat yourself. You will not regret it!
We always enjoy our visits to ll Samuels. Merry Christmas.
II Samuel's was fabulous! They had a lot of holiday parties the night we were there and the service and food was still fantastic. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for flavorful food and good service.
Evening meal with couple from out-of-town (first time) and we had reservations. Was greeted by a WAITER and seated in bar next to the wall between two other groups so that the waitress had trouble serving water. Large screen television overlooking this bar area. We asked for seating in a quieter area away from bar and TV. (Is this a sports bar or restaurant, their prices are sure higher-end?) Once again, we were against the wall, only it was all dented up and in need of painting. The food was good, but the menu not particularly memorable. Needless to say, our guests were unimpressed although they had the good manners not to say so.
Always first-rate food and service, in an attractive setting.
This restaurant was perfect celebrating my nieces pre wedding dinner. Everyone was so attentive, brought us champagne for a toast, and the food and wine were amazing. Will go back again and again to try different menu selections!
Nice atmosphere, very good value, the Seafood Farfalle was outstanding. Great service with a pleasant staff!
What a wonderful dinner as we celebrated my niece on her bachelorette night. Delicious dinner, wine, and dessert. A must do again!!!
First time here. Had a very good experience.
My coworkers and I visited this restaurant on our lunch break. We heard they had great food but that they were a little slow. We were a group of 12 and expected the delay but not an hour! We waited an hour to get our food and once it arrived it was COLD!!! Since we waited an hour of course I didn’t have time to get food elsewhere but if I did, I would have walked out!!! Never ever will I visit this restaurant again and I will not be recommending to friends or coworkers.
