Iguana Ratings and Reviews
Iguana is very over-rated. It's noisy, food was lukewarm and bland, and we were very disappointed. Service was mediocre - we had to keep asking for water, drinks. Most surprising was the dessert menu - it had no prices! When we asked the waitress what things cost, she seemed uncertain and had to get someone else to assist. The next person said all desserts cost the same thing - $10. Perhaps they tell another table something else? We will not go back.
I liked the restaurant. The food was good, the drinks were delucious. But once we were seated, we had no water and 3 service people came by asking if we wanted water and yet we did not get water for 6 minutes. That's not good. So that is service, plain and simple.
The entire staff is very friendly and professional. The food was very good. Live mariachi music. Good experience. Both the black bean soup and roasted corn chowder were very tasty and the delicious guacamole was fresh made table side. The salmon tequila special was also good as were the fish tacos. Highly recommend.
The evening started out very promising with a busy bar scene, great ambience and twinkling holiday lights. By the time we sat down with our party of 4, I was feeling a bit happy after 1 margarita. The guacamole was made table side and was arguably the best part of the meal for me. 2 of us ordered the beef fajitas from the price fixe menu - they were quite tasteless and the meat was tough. The onions and peppers were not cooked much and with no carmelization, which to me adds good flavor. We were very disappointed.
As we were seeing a show at Studio 54 next door, it was quite convenient and the main reason why we chose this restaurant. Too bad the quality of the fajitas didn’t live up to the other dishes at our table. I really wanted to like it. To be fair, my husband enjoyed his pork, although a bit dry, and my cousin enjoyed her filet mignon. He really enjoyed the chili appetizer and the desserts were pretty good.
The waitress never came by to check on whether we were enjoying our meal and by that point we were just looking for the check. If you can’t get fajitas right, what’s the point of having it on the menu? Exit, stage right!
The food was excellent. My friend and I got out early from the John Leguizamo show and we appreciated being seated earlier than our reservation. In hindsight I wished I would have asked to be seated away from the large party celebrating a birthday but all in all my best friend and I both enjoyed the food and excellent service. I will definitely recommend it to my friends
Having been placed on a table of 6 next to the kitchen door (there were 4 of us), we had to almost shout to each other over the noise. It took 3 waiters to eventually take our order and the one that did, had a go at another member of staff in front of us for giving us water. When the food arrived, the chicken was warm at best and the fajitas just tasted bland. It was extremely over-priced and so I wouldn’t recommend it. A real shame as it was meant to be a special occasion being our last night in NY.
Really loved the place. I loved how it was decorated. Very very friendly staff and great service. They are busy of course as we went during holidays season but attentive. Everything is pricey in NYC but for the price it was pretty good. I wasn't crazy about my burrito as they put the rice and beans inside instead of on the side and it seemed like that was all it was filled with but my kid got the filet which was cooked perfectly and the chicken nachos are amazing!
We were seated at a large table in the back corner. It was still a bit loud but manageable. Food was very good - black bean soup was not as good as it has been in the past. It was watery and lacked the usual rich taste. The enchiladas and taquitos were amazing.
While everything is a bit on the pricier side, it is certainly a great value for what you pay. The food is excellent, and in the end, you don't mind paying a little extra for a high-class environment that promises not to break your bank. Can't say that for a lot of the surrounding restaurants in NYC! Great if you're going to see a show at 54 Below right next door.
A little disappointed. We were there for a birthday brunch. The waiter was initially attentive but never checked back after we were served with our entrees. One of our meals was lukewarm. And we were not served with a side dish we ordered. No excuse for it. The restaurant was not busy. There were about 4 tables of customers at the time.
Hopefully this is a holiday glitch. Unlike the other customers, we are not tourists. We live in NYC and eat in restaurants in the area all the time.
Iguana is several different restaurants. There is a large open seating area and bar on the first floor, I think a dance floor downstairs, and a smaller dining area and music stage upstairs. On Tuesday nights Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks play upstairs. This is why we went to Iguana. The band plays jazz from the 20s and 30s and I can't say enough good things about them -- they are amazing musicians and they put on a wonderful show. But this is supposed to be a restaurant review...
The upstairs dining room is quiet enough to talk when the band isn't playing.
Food is good but not great: pretty standard Mexican fare at a reasonable (for midtown) price. Servers were friendly and helpful when they were engaged with us but somewhat inattentive. The manager was terrific in terms of accommodating our schedule and seating preferences.
The upstairs dining room opens at 7.
There doesn't seem to be a way to request reservations upstairs through OpenTable.
