Icon Grill - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Sadly Icon Grill closed the next day. In anticipation of that closure we made dinner reservations one last time before our scheduled theater event. This has always been a favorite with great food and something for everyone. We counted ourselves especially lucky if Chris, with his friendly personality and artistic talent, was our server, which happily he was on this last lovely night. Grilled pear salad and blue cheese beef medallions - all delicious as usual. We hope they find a new location soon and come back to us!!
This was bittersweet...our last occasion to dine at the Icon Grill before it's closing on January 28. It has been our go-to restaurant for special occasions and family dinners for 19 years, and we are so sad to see it close. Hoping to see it's reincarnation in a new building soon!
Icon Grill is closing in less than two weeks because the city needs more apartments/condos (Boo). I decided to tell my diet to F-off for this bittersweet meal. I stuffed myself with comforting carbs, and have no regrets, except for discovering there was a special holiday menu that I missed.
The Bacon Cheddar Tater Tots could have used more bacon because, hello, it's bacon. I also savored for the last time their Ultimate Mac & Cheese. Four cheeses with additional cheese to pour over it. Yum! I wish I had room for the Texas Funeral Fudge cake. I'm sure it would have paired well with the salty taste of my tears. I'll miss you, Icon Grill!
I realize they are closing at the end of the month, so we got a group together for one last meal and booked a Sunday brunch only to be told when we arrived that they are no longer doing brunch (even though it still shows brunch on their website).
With a group of 9 it was too late to move locations. The lunch food was mediocre.
Trying to consul ourselves we decided to end with their famous hot fudge sundae. Nope. They are no longer serving that either.
I have her to other iconic restaurants weeks (or days) before they closed and experienced the same level of food and service as when they were at their zenith. Unfortunately Icon Grill has decided to go out with a whimper, not a bang.
I was so looking forward to my last experience at Icon Grill. I have been going there for years, and am deeply sadden that they are closing. I made a special point to make reservations for brunch for myself and 2 other friends from high school. We were all excited. It was a great place for us to sit, the same booth I get just about every time I go! However....the service was TERRIBLE!!! Out server was working hard on being cute and such, however once he took our order he was done with us. We had to ask for coffee twice...as he forgot and had to ask the nice food runner to bring it to us. Then we had to wait FOREVER for our bill, and then once he took our bill he went and chatted up another table instead of brining our bill back to us. Mind you the Seahawks were set to play in an hour and people in my party had to get to Georgetown to meet friends for the game. I am super sad that this is the experience I had for my last time dining at Icon Grill. I hope others have a better experience before they close shop.
IG is a Seattle food landmark yet I'd never been in nearly 20 years I've lived here. So we decided to go to dinner since sadly, it is closing down in a few weeks. That also explains how managed to get Fri PM reservations, but it was busy.
Other than the quirky 80/90's decor and, the food was actually good and very generous not to mention $$$. I was full only half-way through. Ordered the Medallions while my friend ordered the Steak. I prefer my meat well, but not charred. They appeared so until the last few pieces were a bit rare. Service was okay. Our server seemed rushed between our orders & after receiving our meals, wasn't sure what that was about, but he was pleasant.
Too bad didn't have room for their classic desserts, but I enjoyed the experience overall.
Glad I finally made it!
A classic Seattle fixture. We were first introduced to this eclectic wonderland by a dear friend. Our final visit was bittersweet. We enjoyed ourselves and the food and setting was perfect as we remember! We'll miss you the Icon; we also came as a tribute to our friend Jerry J who was dear to us and showed us part of "hidden Seattle".
A group of 8 friends met to have a birthday brunch and say goodbye to a favorite meeting place. It is so sad to see another Seattle "icon" disappear. The Icon Grill has been such a comfy, funky place to meet friends and spend quality time. The service people are always great about attending to the customers' needs but giving privacy too.
Had a reservation available for 10:30 PM on NYE, then didn't let us order the whole meal because kitchen closed. When we tried to order dessert they said it was too late, yet no one asked if we wanted anything prior to the kitchen shutting down.
If unable to allow people to have the full experience that late into the evening; do not offer reservations that start at 10:30. (we were not seated until 10:48)
We went to celebrate my daughters birthday. I made reservations and confirmed them because it was New Year's Eve. We got there early and I'm glad we did, they had given away our table but we did get sitted. The man was very rude. Our server was nice but our food took an hour and a half to get to us. They brought a cupcake out to my daughter but did not sing to her, but they had done it for the table next to us. So that made me upset. Overall, I don't think we will be back.
Although we had a reservation, we had to wait for at least 20 minutes. We got a table, where waiters were passing all the time and always touching the jacket which was hanging over the chair. Quite annoying!
The waiter in the first place told us, what he couldn't do, separate checks, credit card payment would take a long time and then mixed up our orders...
When he asked how the steak was - I had ordered medium, it was well done - he said, that's the way it should be...
Well, it was a busy night, New Year's Eve, but the overall experience was not up to it! I wouldn't go again, although the ambience was nice!
Food is ok. Not great but ok. Had terrible service last time we went to icon grill. It's been a couple years so thought we'd give it another try. Food wasn't bad but got the same waiter that we had last time and he hasn't gotten any better. Had to ask twice for drinks and took forever. Don't think we'll give it a third try....much better options out there!
While the atmosphere was fun, unfortunately our New Years dinner was lacking. Very fishy lobster linguine, very bland pork and macaroni & cheese with pulled pork, which was as our 14 year old puts it "weirdly seasoned". Our 8 year old won with the kids chicken strips and fries.
The hot fudge sundae dessert was the bright spot - a fun presentation and the kids did think it yummy. Our server was good.
Very sad that 2 of our new years prix fixe options were so disappointing.
We had a friend who was in town for just one day and wanted to meet for brunch. We've been here several times before and so we suggested this would be a great place to meet up. It was New Year's Eve day, so the place was still decked out for the holidays. Great atmosphere, good food and good service. As we'd hoped it was the perfect place for our get together.
What a fabulous celebration with family and friends! Our waiter was awesome with recommendations for each of our young adult picky eaters. Our wine was amazing and we had an incredible meal! The desserts were some of the best holiday treats we had this year. Thanks Icon for helping us celebrate the new year in style.
I've been going to Icon Grill at least two or three times a year since it opened… How many years ago 18? I appreciate them having reliably good food and service. This experience was a little odd with our server however. Jackie was very friendly and helpful but disappeared at times. For example she seated us and then didn't come back for 10 or 15 minutes to take our order. Then after order was taken she never brought our drinks. Somebody else brought our appetizers and I had to stare down the bartender after a long while and I think he realized that our abandoned drinks on the bar were never being picked up so he walked them over to us. Jackie reappeared and was friendly and brought us extra bread after a while and then brought our entrées. But then when we were very much done with eating and sitting for a long time I tried to track somebody down to get boxes to wrap up the rest of our meals and again she was nowhere to be found ( and the other servers were clearly attached to only their tables and didn't go out of their territory). I would've skipped dessert since I didn't want to go through another round of waiting for a long time but then Jackie was on the spot and took our order and brought it in a timely fashion. Again she was very friendly and gracious but the contrast with her other extreme delays in service left me frustrated. Maybe she was distracted and had something else going on but I hope that my next time I go to the grill that I can anticipate having service in a more timely fashion.
absolutely outstanding dinner on Xmas Eve!! Simply every item was extremely good. Icon Grill is neither a snobby over the top restaurant nor is it a middle of the road everyday kind of place. The atmosphere is somewhere in between and the food is simply fantastic!!
My family and I visited the Icon Grill after seeing a play at A Contemporary Theater. Had open table reservations, but were seated at a table right next to a server station - detracting from the ambiance. Server was very friendly and generally good, but there were a couple of instances of longish periods between visits. Appetizers of deep fried mac and cheese and calamari were good, my kids claimed fried mac and cheese at the cheesecake factory was better. Main course food was good, teenage kids had fried chicken and said it was excellent. My wife and I both had meatloaf; it was good but a little dry. Kids had the signature hot fudge sundaes and loved them. Pianist playing that night - seemed loud at the start of our meal, but we got used to it as our stay progressed. Decent visit, good play to take teenage kids in downtown Seattle without breaking the bank.
We went to Seattle to see Santa and ride the carousel. This restaurant was an easy walk from the main activities.
Our waitress was nice but busy so not on top of water replacement or bread. The food was good, if a little on the expensive side. The seating and decor could use an update. My seat cushion was cracked as were the ones I saw around me. Unfortunately uncomfortable seating distracts from the experience.
We love the Icon Grill during the holidays! This is one of my favorite spots because it feels so festive inside, plus the live piano music takes it over the top. The food is really solid and the special Christmas menu offers some fun additional options. If you want a fun place to go to celebrate the Christmas season with friends or family, I highly recommend the Icon Grill!
What happened to Icon Grill? It had been awhile since I had been, so we decided to go before an Xmas event and I was very disappointed. The service was poor and unprofessional. The server seemed like we were bothering her because we were there and every answer was "cool". Totally unprofessional. "I'll have the pasta please". Answer: cool. "My wife will have another glass of wine please ". Answer: cool.
The food was very poor. I like spicy food so I ordered a shrimp penne pasta that was advertised "spicy" and it was basically inedible. It was so incredibly over spiced (Cajun) it was ridiculous and the penne was undercooked. IT SHOULD NOT BE ON THE MENU! I picked out the shrimp but left 80% of it to be thrown away. We were pressed for time to get to our event, plus our server was barely there so I didn't have time to send it back. Our server did notice it when she picked up the plates, made a comment about it being spicy, and that was it. By that time I was beyond frustrated so I just wanted to get out.
I went to the restroom and the two paper towel trashcans were overflowing onto the floor. I watched a kitchen staff employee come in and wash his hands and then threw his paper towels on the floor as well. The TVs in the bathroom used to be cool in the 90s, but either get rid of them or upgrade them - and maybe might want to dust them once in awhile.
What is lacking at this place is some pride and professionalism. I won't be coming back, there are plenty of other great choices downtown to eat at. It's really terrible when something as legendary as the Icon Grill just goes downhill. Sad to see it.
