We tried the unagi (eel) dish but it was not what we expected. The fish was tough (normally it should flake easily), did not itself lend to chopstick cutting, and did not taste good. The only good two items were the Asahi beer and the green tea ice cream. I will not be able to comment on the sushi or thr sashimi as we did not try them.
One of our favorite sushi spots in the city, very good with a very friendly staff. The food is very good and the omakase can be fabulous. Worth a try!! If you live UES it's the best.
Great food and service! Benton box was a great deal and quality!
The restaurant is utilitarian and was nearly empty when I arrived for an early dinner. It did fill up with mostly Japanese as I ate. Sushi was authentic, quickly prepared and of good quality. The venue was a bit pricey given the lack of ambiance, but it is New York City. Compared to prices at most sushi restaurants, the preparation was very fast and service was attentive. Worth going to for a solitary meal or one with a friend.
Great value considering the quality and quantity of food. Now a favorite for takeout too!
This has been a long time favorite of ours, and the quality and flavor remain fantastic. The American Dream roll is one of the best in the city.
Great happy hour appetizers!
Great quality of food. Fresh fish. Excellent service and kindness displayed by all the staff.
Excellent sushi, hamachi collar and sake. The chefs omakase is great value, their fresh giant scollop was delicious.
Excellent omakase on Fridays, one of our favorite spots. Very interesting selection of fish and huge King scallop this week.
Great food, good value deals on sushi.
Solid mid range sushi spot on the UES.
The best Yellowtail belly I've ever had. A perfect cut
This was a very nice little restaurant. The food was good and the service was great. Everything that we had we liked. We are from out of town and found it through reviews on Yelp. If we are in the area again we would not hesitate to eat there.
Looking for hibachi steak in Manhattan? This is the place to go. The pork dumpling appetizer was delicious.
Great service. Good to go on a casual night to have dinner with your couple or a friend. Good for talking without loud notice. Had sushi and sashimi, average quality food.
We've been looking for good sushi in new neighborhood (use to live in midtown). Ichiro is the best sushi restaurant we have been to so far, and we have tried about 5 other places. The service is super fast, the miso soup/salad very good, and the sushi is very good and not that expensive. And, the atmosphere is very nice with modern furniture and dim lighting. All in all, we think this will be our neighborhood sushi place!
Nice little sushi spot if you're ever on the Upper East Side...the construction on 2nd Ave may be a bit of a pain...but the food here will not disappoint. Decent sized pieces and large specialty rolls will have you coming back for more.
Fabulous sushi, the freshest, tastiest I have had at any sushi restaurant. The sushi/sashimi platter for 2 is just gorgeous - plentiful & delicious.
We were looking for a Sushi resto on a Monday night, and apparently many NYC Japanese restaurants are closed on Mondays, so we decided to try this one out. They have an amazing selection of rolls, and we tried quite a few of them and it did not dissapoint. I deffinitely recommend this place to all the suhi lovers out there.
One of the best sushi spots I've gone so far great staff fresh food nice ambiance can't beat the happy hour as well just overall good will definitely go again
Ichiro is a neighborhood location that is always a favorite in my family. The fish is very fresh and the cooked dishes, as opposed to raw preparations, are always perfectly cooked. They have great beef, chicken and vegetarian dishes as well. Over the years we have tried most things, however I am partial to the green salad and the hibachi style Chilean seabass. Fried banana is always great with the complementary fruit for dessert. The tea they offer is a green tea with toasted rice. Absolutely hits the spot. Combine that with the friendly and knowledgeable staff and it makes for a wonderful evening.
Always yummy and fresh! My favorite neighborhood sushi place.
My friend treated me to dinner for my birthday. We shared pork dumplings and sushi & sashimi, which were fresh and delicious. And, the prices were very reasonable. This was my first visit to Ichiro, which is in my neighborhood, and I will definitely return.
Definitively our best choice for sushi at the Upper East. Makis are amazing!!!
Great as usual! Fish always fresh, service always great.
As usual, this neighborhood favorite was delicious, fast, and fresh. Service is always excellent. Fish is always fresh. My favorite roll is Manhattan roll. My favorite app is shumai. Green tea ice cream is always a good way to end the meal.
This was our first time here and, overall, it was a good experience. The service was attentive and excellent. My friend ordered one of their bento box dinners which looked really good and offered a lot of variety. I didn't order it because 2 main items had shellfish to which I'm allergic. I later asked about substitutions and now know that they will substitute something else for the shellfish items. This is good and I will probably return to try this dish with my choice of a main course item. I had the beef negamaki which was a bit greasy and too much of one thing. The food is presented nicely and we had no complaints. I was just sorry I didn't get "what she was having."
Good food. Nice and quiet place. A good spot to go to after going to the Museum.
Ichiro has some pretty good sushi and sashimi. It's a pretty good neighborhood place. Service was good. If you're looking for typical sushi like spicy tuna roll, California roll, unagi and tamago, the sushi is fresh and flavorful. While not a real standout, it was good place for dinner without having to wait or wonder if we would be able to get in.
one of the better sushi places I have visited, and lunch menu is huge bargain.
hidden behind 2nd avenue subway construction - but very worth getting to! dead quiet inside.
Love this neighborhood gem. The sushi & sashimi are outstanding - the flavor, the freshness of the fish certainly superior to most Japanese restaurants. The rolls are sometimes a bit too fancy for our taste but that's a personal choice. Cooked food is excellent too. Ambience is typical small Japanese restaurant with a small sushi bar - pleasant enough. Definitely worth many return visits!
We enjoyed our meal. Standard fare but well done. Kids like Hibachi and their Bento Box was generous. Also very accommodating. My husband wanted something more authentic than a California Role with his and they were helpful and reasonable. Great service as well.
The food is fresh and delicious. They have a lot fun special rolls. The staff is incredible and they always go the extra mile. I've become a regular for lunch and dinners and am never disappointed.
Competent food quickly served in quiet place on 2nd Avenue
The service was slow and the food was not great. We were surprised at how slow the service was. They brought towels to some tables but not ours. We waited 15 minutes to even place an order
Chose this restaurant based on reviews on the internet. Sushi was fresh, well-prepared and well-presented. Some the special rolls were unique and different from other sushi places. Not much atmosphere but who cares when the food is great. Unfortunately, the outdoor scenery is ruined by the subway construction out front. Nice list of sake. The waitress helped out with some of our roll selection and did a bang up job.
Good quality Japanese food, it's not Nobu but it's priced accordingly.
Good and reliable sushi, sashimi and tempura. Reasonable prices, especially with the happy hour specials.
the sushi is always fresh and tasty. Great selection of unusual rolls, although some are overdone and are stuffed with so many ingredients that you can't taste any. All in all, a great sushi restaurant.
