About I Trulli

Opened in 1994, Nicola Marzovilla's warm and welcoming restaurant has been a favorite for more than 18 years for those in search of hearty, delicious Italian specialties. Its celebrated menu draws on the regional cuisine of the Marzovillas' homeland, Puglia. Nicola's mother, Dora, prepares hand-rolled fresh pastas daily. The restaurant is famed for its all-Italian wine list (expertly selected by Marzovilla), and the adjoining Enoteca offers lighter food and by-the-glass choices as well as a nightly happy hour from 3-8pm. I Trulli is a popular destination all-year round: diners can sit by the glow of the main room's rustic fireplace in winter, while in the warmer months are treated to the lush splendor of one of Manhattan's finest outdoor garden spaces.

We have been here several times over the years. Everything is impeccable, and attention to detail in cuisine and service keeps us coming back.

We had a lovely dinner here. The fritto misto, beet salad and panelle were all very good. One of the outstanding things was the focaccia in our bread basket. It was crispy on the bottom and luscious on top (just like in Puglia!). Unfortunately, they were out of the burrata which is the most Puglian thing on the menu. Pasta trio was okay but I didn't love one of the pastas on the plate and for $38, I guess I wasn't too pleased. The others loved their meals, fried rabbit and pork shank. The bill for 4 was $320 plus tip, $380. We didn't all drink and we had only 3 appetizers and one dessert (no coffee) so I thought it was a bit high. All in all I would recommend I Trulli.

We have eaten at this restaurant before and it was very good. But this last time their quality left much to be desired. I ordered pasta with broccoli rabe that I returned because it was so bitter, it was inedible. I ordered ravioli which were substandard, especially for their price. Will not be returning sadly...

Awful service. Long wait for main course. “Crispy rabbit “ was fried chicken fingers. Ridiculous for $36. Would never go back.

The service started off badly, and never got better. We had to go find a waiter to order some wine, although the place was almost empty when we arrived. We also needed to get up to find a waiter to a) tell us the specials, b) order dessert, c) get the check. The place looked understaffed, yet at no time did anyone explain, offer an apology, or perhaps offer a drink or dessert on the house. The food was reasonably good but not special. The linguini with clam sauce was so-so. The tiramisu was average. All in all, a bummer.

I love this restaurant. I have been going there for as long as I can remember, at least as early as the 90s when I worked in the area. The food is amazing, authentic, service so professional. Lovely outdoor seating, cozy inside. Quality on every level.

I Trulli is one of my favorite regional Italian restaurants in NYC. The food is consistently good and they have a strong wine list. We had an excellent dinner and once they turned the music down (we had to ask and they did) it was a pleasant atmosphere. The service was not great this time. I asked for some help selecting the wine, and no one ever showed up. So I went and talked to the maitre d' and he seemed to be the wine expert and helped select a good wine (I don't think the waiter ever mentioned my request to him. Maybe he didn't understand). In the past they had a wine steward, but maybe they've cut back on that expense. About the music: we asked for a quiet table, it was fine at first. But as the room got more crowded, they cranked up the music. Why? No one was listening to it, but it made people have to shout. When we asked them to turn it down, they did so immediately and we (and probably everyone else) appreciated it. I will NEVER understand why restaurant managers turn up music to make restaurants unpleasantly loud. I think THEY like the music, not the customers.

The organic chicken had a lovely crispy skin and was very juicy. The house made pasta was delicious. The molten cake with salted caramel ice cream was perfect and made more special by waiter bringing over with a candle for my birthday. We were not rushed out. I look forward to going there again.

Another good meal at I Trulli. Only disappointed the heaters aren't installed on the patio yet and we couldn't dine al fresco. Samuel is one of the best waiters we have ever had and happy to have him again.

I Trulli is a very special place. The food is unique and authentic, Southern Italian from the Puglia region. Owner Nicola is always around making sure every guest is enjoying their experience. I've visited many times before and have always had a consistently great dining and service experience. This lunch trip, Nicola's Mom sat at a long marble table near the dining room pressing out orchietta pasta by hand (of course I ordered this fresh treat, served in a rabbit ragou). Bravo!

i Trulli is one of my favorite restaurants in New York. This was my 8th visit and it was yet another great dinner. We were able to get a table in the garden. It gives you the joy of eating outside with out street noise. We had wonderful meals and the wine selection was superb. The staff took excellent care of us but we were never rushed. I can safely say I will be back again soon.

Have been four times in last several months and never disappointed. Now a go-to both for lunch with friends and dinner with family. Pasta especially good. The style more refined and sophisticated than so many Italians. Reasonable/good value for what you get. Extensive Italian wine list.

I have been coming here for more than 10 years, on and off. Always a solid choice. Nice location in Grammercy area. Attentive, thoughtful service. enjoyed two of their mainstay pastas on this visit along with calamari fritti and cheese plate. All well prepared. Nice super Tuscan off the wine list which is not cheap but plenty of choices in the mid-range. It was rainy and muggy on our visit so we didn't opt for the terrace seating but that's a plus when the weather works. Good bars and Jazz Standard on the same block so easy for a pre- or after-dinner drink or some live music. Also right on top of the No. 6 28th Street station so good commute.

I truli has one of my favorite Italian restaurants for a long time. I enjoy going to the enoteca for a glass or a flight of terrific Italian wines, along with some delightful olives, cheese and salumeria; or going inside for a full meal. The outside dining is fantastic and well worth the trouble. The owner owns a vineyard in Tuscany, and his Italian wines cant be beat! Service is terrific, the food is excellent-well worth the visit.

Great food but the restaurant has some fatal acoustic problems due to vaulted ceiling transmits even a whisper from one side to the other (and our table was in the corner at the end) and all the hard surfaces with little or no noise deadening /sound absorption. It should be much quieter as it is a an "older" persons restaurant and I would recommend to anyone to sit in the middle as I did the time before where the vaulted room is the highest.

 (Chicago)·Dined on September 10, 2017

All my life I've eaten the food from this region of Italy. First, the way my family adapted their native Puglisese cuisine to what they could find in Chicago, then, when I became the first of my family to return to Castellana Grotte, I was able to taste for the first time what my family had been trying to imitate in the U.S. I loved them both.

I trulli is the only place I've ever been to provide both of the experiences I had growing up. The rabbit, a little more refined than I'm used to was exquisite. The favatt, what we call Fava e cicoria, was perfect.

My guest and I weren't up for a full bottle of wine, so my only suggestion is that they keep a decent Pugliese wine on hand for those who order by the glass.

I lost my go-to Italian restaurant in New York about two years ago. I just found my new one.

Grazie Nicola and all your staff for making this happen.

I Trulli used to be one of my go-to places for a casual, high service, yummy evening. I was sorelly dissapointed with my last visit. The menu has dramatically changed. The place was empty. That should have been my first sign. My beloved arugula salad and lasagna were gone. In fact there were no salads on the menu at all. I relented and ordered the pulpo (ocotopus) salad that read like there were greens but there were not... just chunks of rubbery octopus in a vinegary / mayonaisey sauce. (I did not eat it. The server did not notice or make any inquiry.) There was a pasta trio on the menu that included one selection with rabbit... I asked to substitute and was told no. I ended up with ravioli with pesto that was mediocre at best. The pasta was under stuffed and tough and the pesto added little to no flavor. I passed on desert. I am not sure what happened to this little charm. I hope for other diners this was simply an off night.

This is one of the best restaurants in Manhattan; in every way it is 6 stars. It is tucked away on a street of restaurants that runs between Park South and Lex--none of the other restaurants on the block can hold a candle to the place. My only complaint is that I don't get to eat here often enough as I live out of town.

We sat outside which is a very pleasant area, inside is very nice too but we wanted to enjoy the good weather. Very good service. I went with my mother and a friend for dinner and they enjoyed it, but were not that satisfied with what they chose. My mother's fish was a bit dry and my friend's seafood plate was difficult to eat. My grilled branzino was delicious.

We enjoyed Restaurant Week dinner at I Trulli. Service was impeccable. I had the octopus salad starter, delicious! My friend had meatballs, which she said were very good. We both had pasta: orecciette in rabbit ragu, very tasty. For desert I had the pannacotta, the best I have ever had. My friend had the tiramisu, and wished she had had the pannacotta! Unfortunately it was a wet and stormy night, so the lovely garden was closed. The restaurant had several empty tables, so it was quiet, and we were not hurried, but stayed chatting for a while after finishing.
