About I Trulli
Opened in 1994, Nicola Marzovilla's warm and welcoming restaurant has been a favorite for more than 18 years for those in search of hearty, delicious Italian specialties. Its celebrated menu draws on the regional cuisine of the Marzovillas' homeland, Puglia. Nicola's mother, Dora, prepares hand-rolled fresh pastas daily. The restaurant is famed for its all-Italian wine list (expertly selected by Marzovilla), and the adjoining Enoteca offers lighter food and by-the-glass choices as well as a nightly happy hour from 3-8pm. I Trulli is a popular destination all-year round: diners can sit by the glow of the main room's rustic fireplace in winter, while in the warmer months are treated to the lush splendor of one of Manhattan's finest outdoor garden spaces.

I Trulli Ratings and Reviews
I took guests to I Trulli twice this month. However, the second time I went with a party of four and was informed -upon asking for the check- that the gratuity had already been included. I objected stating that parties of four and under -unless specified on the menu- should not have the gratuity included. I am afraid that the waiter hearing us speaking in French "assumed" that we were tourists unaware of the tipping etiquette. He had been so "instructed" by his manager. After consulting again with his manager he returned with the tip deleted from the bill. I have seen this faux-pas happening too often in NY restaurants. I do not like to fuss in front of my guests but there should be should be set standards on gratuity procedures. Tks.
All I can say is wow.
Dora's homemade pastas are incredible. A tip you can order appetizer-sized portions of their pastas to try different kinds. They were all superb. I regret that I live in Seattle and do not come to NYC often; otherwise this would be my new favorite restaurant. As a former hardcore foodie and chowhound, I can say this is amazing.
We was expecting a good meal being that we went on a Sunday night & the restaurant was not crowded. However the service was horrendous. Not only did it take forever for the entrees to come out - the waitress did not even come over once between the appetizers and the entrees to tell us what the delay was about. The only one we could ever get was a busboy. The quickest the waitress moved was when we asked for the check - she came over as soon as she saw me put the credit card in the booklet. Now as for the food - the appetizers were mediocre at best - we had the shaved baby artichokes (very bitter) and the fritters with goat cheese - OK not great. The entrees were better - the carbonara and the lamb shank - but didn't knock your socks off.
I trulli is a must for Italian cuisine lovers... The atmosphere is warm/inviting. The service is ever-present without being over-attentive and the food... A rarely found window to an authentic Italian meal. The wine list boasts a sizeable selection; quite possibily the best in the city & head chef Patty Jackson's signature desserts are nothing short of obsessively indulgent.
It was wonderful. We felt we were back in Italy. The food was superb. Unlike so many Italian restaurants where it is americanized. I Trulli was true Italian cuisine. Their dishes blended many items to make delicious appetizers, entrees and deserts. The bar and bar tender had the largest collection of Digestivos I have ever seen. Nancy and I LOVED IT..
Just had a dinner at I Trullli Restaurant . One of the worst litalian meal I had in New York City. Expensive Italian Restaurant compared with the quality of the food. Absolutely not recomended. Sorry to say but there are much better places in NYC to get a true italian food.
We took my sister and her husband to I Trulli to celebrate her birthday. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, we sat in the garden and we all had a wonderful time. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was very attentive. Nicola (the owner) makes you feel like family. We highly recommend this restaurant to everyone who loves authentic Italian food.
Decent Italian food, but fairly run-of-the-mill. I wasn't wowed by my meal (Fried Rabbit), though the appetizers were excellent. Definitely try the baby calzones, they were light and delicious. Maybe I tried the wrong entree, because I took my family and everyone else loved their meal.
On a recommendation from a New Yorker, I went to I Trulli with four friends who were here from Sweden. One had not been able to find the sardine appetizer since a visit to southern France near the Spanish border. The flavor was exactly as he'd hoped. We were all pleased with our perfectly-prepared meals. A nice find.
It was a beautiful evening for dining outdoors . There was a moderate lively crowd and everyone was in great spirits. Food was fantastic , 4 of us shared the delicious grilled octopus and the calamari appetizer . The calamari was sauteed with red pepper flakes and has a kick to it , yummy way to eat it than the usualy fried calamari. The wine selection was amazing and we had 2 great bottles . All in all , the restaraunt never fails and has maintained the high standard all these years, I always bring friends here for a great meal .
I Trulli is a quiet gem in Murray Hill. Our meal was warm and relaxed. Fresh vegetables, including shaved artichokes and leeks, made for delicious appetizers. My guest and I shared several appetizers, enabling us to sample nearly a third of the menu! The service is patient, yet attentive. The wine list is extensive and includes several price points.
Of seven dishes tried, there were only two (a lamb sausage appetizer and black sea bass main)that my husband and I agreed were really outstanding. The rest were "good" or OK but each had one or more notable flaws, whether a heaviness in a pasta and the crust of a tart, a lack of subtlety in a sauce or the underseasoning of two dishes. Given the price level, we had higher expectations and will not return.
I reserved a romantic table for two to take my girlfriend out to celebrate her 25th birthday. I asked for a romantic table and we got a very cozy corner table for two with a view of a beautiful courtyard. We were both very impressed with the level of care the staff had to our requests. Water glasses were always full, champagne glasses were never allowed to be empty and the food came out seamlessly from appetizers to main course to dessert to coffee. The food was absolutely delicious! Baby calzones and the special of the day scallops made a lovely appetizer. Main course of delicious mackerel and amazing cod fish dish. All complimented with an absolutely wonderful champagne suggested by the staff. Amazing night out. Highly recommended!
Ambience is great at any time of year. I wish the enclosed outside was open. It was a warm nite. The pasta was perfect. The duck which was the special of the nite was tough and not enough of it. There was hardly any breast meat. But I love the place and everyone I bring loves it. Dessert was great and the staff is always terrific. We tried a new wine that the waiter recommended and it was terrific. It's always a great evening.
This was my third time at I Trulli. I had the five course Puglia dinner - the orchiette with rabbit ragu was terrific and the lamb done just right. The salad was pretty sad and the calzones were odd. The prickly pear granita was outstanding. The service was good but one of the busboys took my companions wine glass in the middle of dinner because the glass had not been refilled by the waiter. A very strange occurrence. The buss staff needs more training. Overall a good dining experience.
I included a request for a quiet table as I would be meeting an old friend and we would want to spend time and talk, when I made the online reservation. The hostess mentioned my note when I arrived and had planned the perfect spot for us. We had a wonderful table for two in front of the fireplace. An excellent glass of sparkling Italian white wine was $14.00 and worth every penny. The food was good but the menu was not as large and varied as I would have liked. Service was excellent and staff friendly and helpful but not hovering. We were welcome to stay and talk and we did so for over three hours. A lovely evening. By the way...the couple next to us got engaged during dinner and it was a lovely spot for their big event.
