I Gatti Ratings and Reviews
Wow, not sure why I have never had a meal here before tonight. Have lived and worked in Los Gatos for over 25 years and this is the first time dining at I Gatti. All I could think about during dinner is why? Why haven’t I been having great Italian meals here before tonight? Well, the good news is I found a local Italian restaurant that has great food and exceptional service! I had the Pear Carpaccio Salad and the Penne Bolognese, both were exceptional. I recommend hitting the Penne with chili flakes and Parmigiano-Reggiano liberally. I paired the meal with a 2009 Dana Estare wine...heaven. Also, one of the best tiramisu I have had outside of Italy. It was lighter and more flavorful than any I have had in the States.
Seated immediately for our reservation. It was a holiday night so service was a bit slow all around. Halibut entree was divine and our waitress very pleasant. Enjoyed a delicious martini, but it was not very cold. Still one of our favorite dining places. :)
As usual, the food was excellent. AND as usual, the service was NOT good. I have been here with my family no less than 15 times in the last three years, and the service is consistently poor, but we love the food. The water/bread guy is always on point however. The food comes out swiftly, so it is just the waitstaff. I don't know why we have to wait for the water guy to pour our third glass of water before we even see a waitperson. They often forget to ask us if we want pepper with our salads...or we ask for a glass of wine and it takes 15 minutes, sometimes getting it after our food is served, etc.. overall, it is really the lack of attention or sensitivity to the people they are serving. And like I said, this wasn't the first time.
After making reservations for 7, our table was ready upon arrival. The service was great except when we asked for more bread and butter, and water. We had to ask several times before getting it. It may have been because our server was at several other tables, and we maybe asked the wrong people, but you would think there should have been some communication between them.
We had the nicest evening imaginable on Saturday night at I Gatti. We arrived an hour early (!) and were still warmly welcomed by our hostess-- what a pleasant thing that always is! Hoping to find a spot at the bar for a drink before the last member of our party arrived, we saw quickly that the bar area was very busy on a Saturday night, but what a nice surprise! Our reserved booth was ready for us an hour early, by chance! Our waitress was friendly, engaging and attentive from start to finish; our drinks were terrific (a Manhattan that seemed off just a bit was quickly re-made, no questions asked!); and our meal, when it arrived, was tasty and quite delicious. The atmosphere overall was festive, fun and not too loud. Every table was full and seemed happy, like ours, and we all agreed that we could come back to I Gatti if possible-- and sooner than later, except that we're all Jesuit priests in formation and this was a special night we were treated to-- which could not have been better! The evening was a joyful reunion of old friends and we left satisfied and very grateful.
Disappointing and overpriced. Based on earlier reviews I guess we had higher expectations. iGatti is a mediocre Italian restaurant in a quaint downtown Los Gatos. The setting and ambiance are wonderful - just what you would expect looking at it from the outside. Unfortunately, the service was slow (I honestly felt like we were invisible) and the food was bland. Given how much they were charging for basic plates (i.e. $27 for a tasteless Chicken Parm), we expected more. If you are looking for a great Italian meal, go a few doors down and try the Butternut Squash raviolis at La Pasteria.
We had a reservation at 6:15. The restaurant was empty but they wanted to seat us outside (it was freezing cold). They said the inside tables are reserved, I asked for whom because we had a reservation as well. After some back and forth they finally agreed to give us a table inside. Bad experience.
iGatti is one of our top 3 restaurants in downtown Los Gatos. It is great any time of the year, but is particularly cozy in the fall and winter with its warm colors and some hearty menu choices. We love the Caeser salad, the lamb shank and the osso bucco. We recently went for my birthday and two of us had a booth to ourselves. Our waitress gave us excellent advice on menu choices and wine pairings. We came from wine tasting at Testarossa so had a 6pm reservation; it was quiet when we were seated, but by 7:00 the place was full and buzzing, but not noisy. Good menu and wine choices.
We always love I Gatti for its lovely and quiet ambiance. You can actually talk to your friends and hear them too! My only concern is the state if their bathroom. It is not clean. The toilet, the sink, the walls etc. This is unsanitary for a restaurant. Hopefully, an easy fix
My wife's sausage and vegetable melody was excellent she reports. I had the chicken parmagenia described as " with crispy Panko". Although it tasted OK the Panko was very mushy and subtracted from the experience. Perhaps it had been sitting on the counter too long. Or perhaps Panko should not be used with a moist combination of chicken, red sauce, and melted cheese !
Disappointed with choice of this restaurant for our anniversary. We chose because it was close to our home for a Monday night. I indicated it was our anniversary on our reservation, but there was no acknowledgement of it the whole time. The food was just so-so.
We have been to Igatti's around 20 times in the last 3 years. Our family loves a couple of specific dishes. We stopped going for awhile because the menu did not offer many options and the service was hit or miss. The ambience is always good however. They have since updated their menu and have more variety. Last time we all opted for the new non-pasta dishes and were very pleased. My one complaint: The service can be a hit or miss, depending on who you get. We go for the ambience and the food, but if we don't get attentive service, then it ruins the the price of the meal. The prices are a bit steep, so I assume we are paying the extra $ for better service.
