Hy's Steakhouse - Winnipeg Ratings and Reviews
It was our first time in your restaurant. Our waiter Kelly was very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Thanks for a great anniversary meal.
Hy's is always great. We decided afterward, that the food is equal to other less expensive restaurants, but the professional service and ambiance sets the dinner apart.
Not sure the high prices and stuffiness are justified anymore with so many great dining options in Winnipeg. Used to be an annual treat to go here for a special occasion, but not sure I'd go back.
Our family visited your restaurant for my son's 18th birthday this past Sunday (family of 4). My husband and I ordered different meals (he had steak Diane) and I had the tenderloin medallions and they both looked and tasted exactly the same (only his was cooked at the table). I didn't find it to be very flavourful and it was a bit overcooked. There was no bread or salads included in the meals. Our son's meal only came with a steak and a baked potato (no vegetable). All at a very high cost. I did really enjoy the pistachio crème brulee. The service was okay but I wouldn't say it was anything spectacular -- I have had much more personable servers at other restaurants -- I would assume these are higher paid and I just expected a little more. I thought it was in poor taste that the hostess had a tip basket for "hanging up our coats." Overall I didn't think there was anything special about this restaurant. In my opinion Chop is much better. Even the Keg is better.
Came for our work Christmas part. It was great and the waiter wasn’t outstanding. Always attentive to the details. We had a lady with very special dietary needs and it was never an issue with ordering food. They catered to her and changed how they cooked for to accommodate her needs
Will definitely be back.
The service was excellent, but my steak was extremely tough and flavourless and the the rest of the meal was also pretty bland and lacklustre. I wouldn't have been happy with the food if it cost me 1/3 of the price it did. Overall a very expensive night out and we came home and snacked afterwards.
One of our favorite restaurant all around. However this time we were a little disappointed in the food which was the steelhead trout. The trout was acceptable and tasty but looked like it was under a heat lamp for awhile. The quanio and the veg were not that good. Fishy taste, rubbery and sticky. The service was perfect and we will certainly be back.
Excellent service, received help picking a wine for my wife and I ,and was great. My steak was cooked exactly the way I ordered it. We will definitely be going back and trying something else on the menu.
Met good friends for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The facility was quiet enough that we could enjoy a great dinner conversation and catch up. Service was great and Denny was very attentive to our needs. He prepared Steak Dianne at our table that was fantastic. They do need to extend their menu to include some Gluten Free Options.
Still thought Hy's had a dress code, so were very disappointed with the general atmosphere. Service was also not 5 star. One of us got the wrong side and coffee was cold. It was a special occasion, but was only mentioned when one dessert came out. It was a busy night and the way the restaurant is set up, there was a lot of "traffic" beside us. The gray jackets the waiters wear are very unattractive! Probably won't be back.
As always, Hy’s was fabulous. Melt-in-your mouth cheese toast, caesar salad prepared table-side, mouth-watering filet, and specialty coffee to finish off the night. Mmmmmm
Celebrated our anniversary and received excellent attention & acknowledgement by Everyone! Waiter Andrew was terrific; friendly, attentive & made a delicious Caesar salad table-side. Cheese toast, Gorgonzola Filet mignon & key lime pie were all top notch. Peppercorn steak was very tasty & cooked perfectly but New York cut was fatty. Next time would have the 8 oz filet & add peppercorn sauce. We had a special table in the corner which made it more intimate & romantic. Wonderful evening! Will definitely be back.
There are few restaurants as reliable and predictable as Hy’s. The food and service were first class, as always. Will return very soon.
We are Keg lovers. More money but I have to say an awesome experience. Great service. Wonderful food. (Need to go back to the original garlic toast though). Over all a very nice time. Highly recommend.
Asked for a round table in a quiet area as we were celebrating a 92nd birthday and they delivered exactly that!
Service was super and food did not disappoint
Such a nice dining experience. Delicious aroma as we entered the building, friendly greeters, we’ll timed & efficient waiters, wonderful tasting steaks. We all loved the cheese toast!! Parking was a bit confusing is was our only issue. Beautiful restaurant great for special occasions. We recommend Hy’s the for delicious steaks, rich ambiance & friendly service.
I found the lighting to be too dark as I was unable to read the menu.
I found the tables to be way to close to each other, as I could hear the conversation next to me so well that it was most difficult to hear the person I was with.
The servers were polite and helpful.
The food was enjoyable.
The washrooms were clean.
Overall it was a pleasant experience, though I would not dine there again by my own choice.
Amazing night out at Hy’s. The food was cooked to perfection and our server Laurence was fantastic. We have had him serve us before and we were happy to see him again this time. My only complaint was that it was a little loud in the upstairs portion where we ate but that can be expected as it seemed like there were some anniversary parties going on
We ordered steaks at a very high price they were so fatty there was hardly any edible steak on our plates waiter never came to ask how the meal was. If your looking for a good steak house in wpg visit Ray ans Jerrys or the keg.
Hys is over priced and quality of meal is something you would get at a salsbury house for half the price
This was the first time in about 20 years that we have visited Hy's. The meal was spectacular! From the "at the table" preparation of the Caesar Salad, every element of the dining experience was dealt with grace and professionalism. The wine list is expansive and smartly presented on a tablet that you can scroll through with wines listed by country and grape variety. It is very expensive but well worth the price.
We've been to Hy's a number of times. Consistently great food and service - thanks Andrew! Love the atmosphere and will be back!
Amazing food and ambience. our first time there celebrating our anniversary!!! Would Forsure go back! Just the right amount on your plate where you don't feel stuffed! No complaints would go back In a heart beat!!! Thanks for a fabulous experience!
Had a great night. Our waiter Lawrence was the best. Very attentive and catered to all our needs. Last time we were here they didn’t have the oysters Rockefeller and I was so disappointed because it’s one of the reasons we come here. This time you had them so my husband and I each had an order. Absolutely worth every dollar. I was impressed with how well everything was seasoned. No need for salt or pepper. One thing we were all disappointed in was the fact that you no longer offer complementary bread with the meal. I know this from the last time we were there but hoped that you had changed that. Bread is relatively cheap and should be back on the menu. Not everyone wants to have cheese toast or garlic toast. Will definitely be back.
Food was disappointing, I ordered a New York steak and fries. At $50 per plate, one would assume the meal would come with some sort of vegetable and be plated to appease the eye. Steak and fries was all I got. I asked for medium rare and received it blue. The waiter was good and agreed to put it back on where it came back charred. Again, at $50 per plate, I would have expected a steak cooked to perfection! My wife’s meal was great so at least that was nice. Waiter and overall service was great!
Hy’s isn’t cheap, so wait for the gift certs from Costco. The table-side hade-made Caesar salad though is simply awesome
We had the steak Diana. Served table side but for the price portions are very small . After we ate we we're still hungry do we ordered the cheese tray yummy.
We had a lovely dinner experience with our guests. Both couples had the Chateaubriand and it was excellent; nice table presentation. Our waiter was really great, very attentive ! Nice atmosphere and the acoustics were great as we could all talk together and hear each other. Many restaurants are too noisy and it is impossible to have a conversation at your table.
Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and portion sizes. This was helpful when ordering side dishes. We never felt rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
The food was amazing! Best steak I have ever tasted. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. I always always used steak sauce as I need the extra flavor...not this time. The service from Denny was even better. Will for sure be back!
