Aromas of ripe blue- and black-skinned fruit, dried herb and cedar lead the nose on this savory blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot. The firmly structured palate doles out spiced blueberries, blackberries, mint and black pepper alongside chewy tannins. A licorice note signals the close.
Lots of ripe cherry and liquorice on the nose with good intensity and concentration. Tannins softer than I was expecting with a nice smoky character coming to the fore. A nice wine. Quite a pretty and floral style.

A very intense ruby red in color with purple highlights, the wine is immediately and suavely convincing in its aromas and harmonious in its expression of the characteristics of Chianti Classico as a zone. The nose is redolent of licorice, violets, and cherries under spirits together with notes of vanilla, chocolate, and sweet toasty oak, all of excellent intensity and sweet elegance. Fresh and savory flavors on the persistent finish and aftertaste add length and a convincing finesse.
A mix of black cherry, cedar, toasty oak and leather mark this exuberant, firmly structured red. Turns lean on the finish, with herb, cedar and tobacco elements in the aftertaste.

The wine is fresh, fruity and fragrant, with body and structure, spicy flavors, ripe fruit and roundness.
On the eye it reflects the typical "nebbiolo red" in its youth: ruby-red, quite transparent, with attractive reflections. The nose analysis reminds us to an intense bouquet of violets harmoniously blended with red plumy fruits. The taste is full and wide, properly tannic; very long in persistency. Freshness is of course dominant, but elegance is already enjoyable.
Ruby red in the glass with a pure nose with aromas of small fruits. A fruity, elegant taste; good balance in the mouth and a fresh fruity finish with very fine, silky tannins.

Produced from vineyards in the historic zone in the commune of Sant'Ambrogio, from 85 corvina, 10 rondinella, and 5 sangiovese. the wine is kept in steel until malolactic fermentation, followed by 12 months' maturation in 33- and 55-hl Slavonian oak barrels. The nose offers supple fragrances of almonds and violets.Crisp and dry in the mouth, well structured, with a lovely, velvety texture.Ready to enjoy now, but can be cellared a few years.
The label says, "Appassimento, " which means drying – the grapes are allowed to dry some before pressing. The wine is deep black garnet ruby with black reflections and some almandine in the rim. The bouquet is intense, with berry fruit supported by some sweetish accents and pleasant greenish vegetal notes mingled with wood smoke and peppery accents, and some sea salt and cedar. On the palate it's medium bodied and quite smooth, with fairly rich cherry plum fruit supported by moderate minerality and slight dusky accents more than acidity, and by tannins that are ample and smooth with some dusky accents that flow into a clean rather dusky savory finish.
Critical Acclaim JS92 James Suckling - "A ripe and juicy red with dried berry and green coffee bean character. Full body, fresh acidity and a juicy finish. A blend of corina and rondinella.".

Deep purple-tinged ruby. Grapey, deep aromas of stewed plum, raisin, date and cocoa explode from the glass. Rich, smooth and very dense, with wonderfully tactile flavors similar to the aromas.
Dark ruby-red. Dark plum, blueberry jam, coffee and lavender on the slightly warm nose. Rich, dense and nicely focused, with peppery red and black fruit flavors complicated by coffee and cocoa nuances. Finishes with youthfully chewy but noble tannins, very good length and a lingering red berry perfume. Concentrated and high in alcohol, it's very well balanced too and remarkably easy to drink. Possibly the best-ever entry level Amarone from Tedeschi. (93 Points - Steven Tanzer) The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a big, big wine. Plums, mocha, chocolate, spices, new leather and flowers are some of the notes that emerge from this fleshy, large-scaled Amarone. This is a fairly obvious, fruit-driven Amarone, but it works. Firm yet well-balanced tannins frame the insistent finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. (93 Points - Robert Parker) There's a sanguine edge to this firm red, with a streak of minerality underscoring flavors of sour and red cherry, cigar box and red currant, with just a touch of sun-dried tomato. There's a dense weave, yet this is still light-weight and silky on the palate. Best from 2013 through 2027. 725 cases imported. (93 Points - Wine Spectator).

Overview Sangiovese is the grape behind the great wines of Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, as well as this wine— and judging by the exclamation point on this bottle, the folks at Umani Ronchi are awfully excited about it. The wine has a beautiful reddish/purple color as most good Malbecs do. The aromas are a mix of freshly crushed black cherries and toasty/smoky oak—just enough to frame the exuberant fruit. Credited to Harry MacElhone, Harrys Bar, Paris, France. The combination was said to have such a kick that it felt like being shelled with the powerful French 75mm field gun, also called a "75 Cocktail", or "Soixante Quinze" in French. The "French 75" was popularized in America at the Stork Club in New York. The drink's recipe was first recorded in The Savoy Cocktail Book in 1930. The recipe in the Savoy Cocktail Book uses gin and so do we. Bombay Sapphire gin, lemon juice, sugar and Domaine Chandon sparkling.
Dr. Iain Marshall at the Manhattan Club in New York City, invented by for a banquet hosted by Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph Churchill, Winston's mother) in honor of presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden. The success of the banquet made the drink fashionable, later prompting several people to request the drink by referring to the name of the club where it originated -"the Manhattan cocktail". However, Lady Randolph was in France around this time and pregnant, so the story is likely a fiction. The original "Manhattan cocktail" was a mix of "American Whiskey, Italian Vermouth and Angostura bitters". During prohibition Canadian whisky was primarily used because it was what was available Canadian Club, gently mixed with sweet vermouth, bitters and a brandied cherry.
Traditionally, the first use of the name "Old Fashioned" for a Bourbon cocktail was said to have been at the Pendennis Club, a gentlemen's club founded in 1881 in Louisville, Kentucky. The recipe was said to have been invented by a bartender at that club in honor of Colonel James E. Pepper, a prominent bourbon distiller, who brought it to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York City. By the 1860s, it was common enough for orange curaçao, absinthe and other liqueurs to be added that, as first mentioned in The Chicago Daily Tribune on July 25, 1880, the original concoction, albeit in different proportions, was being called "old-fashioned" and came back into vogue itself.

The most widely reported account is that it was invented in Florence, Italy in 1919, at Caffè Casoni, now called Caffè Cavalli. Count Camillo Negroni invented it by asking the bartender, Fosco Scarselli, to strengthen his favorite cocktail, the Americano, by adding gin rather than the normal soda water. The bartender also added an orange garnish rather than the typical lemon garnish of the Americano to signify that it was a different drink. After the success of the cocktail, the Negroni Family founded Negroni Distillerie in Treviso, Italy, and produced a ready-made version of the drink, sold as Antico Negroni 1919. One of the earliest reports of the drink came from Orson Welles in correspondence with the Coshocton Tribune while working in Rome on Cagliostro in 1947, where he described a new drink called the Negroni: "The bitters are excellent for your liver, the gin is bad for you. They balance each other." Bombay Sapphire gin, sweet vermouth and Campari.

The creation of the Sazerac has also been credited to Antoine Amadie Peychaud, the Creole apothecary who moved to New Orleans from the West Indies and set up shop in the French Quarter in the early part of the 19th Century. He dispensed a proprietary mix of aromatic bitters from an old family recipe. According to legend he served his drink in the large end of an egg cup that was called a coquetier in French, and that the Americanized pronunciation of this as "cocktail" gave this type of drink its name. However, the word "cocktail" predates this by decades, first appearing in print in 1803. It was defined in 1806 as "a mixture of spirits of any kind, water, sugar and bitters, called a bittered sling." Bulleit Rye, Peychaud's bitters and an absinthe rinse.
"Maita'i" is the Tahitian word for "good". It was purportedly invented at the Trader Vic's restaurant in Oakland, California, in 1944. Victor J. Bergeron or Trader Vic created it one afternoon for some friends who were visiting from Tahiti. One of those friends, Carrie Guild, tasted it and yelled "Maita'i roa ae!" Meaning "very good!" or "The Best!" Trader Vic's rival, Don the Beachcomber, claimed to have created it in 1933 at his then-new bar named for himself in Hollywood. Don the Beachcomber's recipe is more complex than that of Vic's and tastes quite different Appleton VX rum, Cointreau, Bacardi black rum, orgeat and lime juice.

The exact origin of the Sidecar is unclear, but it is thought to have been invented around the end of World War I in either London or Paris. The Ritz Hotel in Paris claims origin of the drink. The first recipes for the Sidecar appear in 1922, in Harry MacElhone's Harry's ABC of Mixing Cocktails and Robert Vermeire's Cocktails and How to Mix Them. Both books say the recipe is equal parts cognac, Cointreau, and lemon juice, now known as "the French school". Later, an "English school" of Sidecars emerged, as found in the Savoy Cocktail Book (1930), which call for two parts cognac and one part each of Cointreau and lemon juice. The original Sidecar had several more ingredients, which were "refined away". Embury also states the drink is simply a Daiquiri with brandy as its base rather than rum, and with Cointreau as the sweetening agent rather than sugar syrup. The earliest mention of sugaring the rim on a Sidecar glass is 1934. St Remy VSOP brandy, Cointreau, lemon juice and sugar.

The menu is way over priced for what you get. A new York steak for $47 is way too pricey. No presentation a steak and a potatoes on your plate no so appealing.
I ordered beef wellington and really enjoyed it. It's better than beef wellington that I had in Vegas, flavourful but not too salty. Unfortunately the server only able to take our food order after 45mins we've been seated. Overall me and my guests are happy with the food and service.
My steak was perfect, great end to night after jets game
Always great! The food was incredible, and the service matched it. Everything was perfect -- from the steaks, lobster, dessert and of course the must-have cheese toast. It's a great place to go for a special celebration as the experience feels so special.
Very nice restaurant, but nowhere near worth what you will end up paying. Steaks dinners (most dinners) start at $50.00 and up. Very nice, but very overpriced. This included a piece of steak and a baked potatoe. Asparagus, mushroom, vegetable medley all cost extra on top of your steak/potatoe. Salad or soup or sides are all extra. Even for the foodie who loves a great steak, this is well overpriced dining experience.
The food tasted great but portion sizes were far too small especially for the cost of the meal. I didn't feel it was worth it. Service was great though. Ambiance is nice.
Great meal with equally great service
Just a perfect evening
Great food. Our server was awesome and very knowledgable of the menu. Not used to spending that kind of money for just two people but it was worth it.
We were celebrating the start of our Son's military career, couldn't have picked a better restaurant for a family lunch after his Swearing in Ceremony. Thanks
We Were Celebrating 43 Years of marriage and enjoyed the service atmosphere. Your servers are
the best and I understand you must treat them well to perform so happy in their positions
Excellent response from the staff when we had to leave abruptly due to a personal issue. Thank you.
Had a wonderful time very friendly staff great food
The service was excellent as was the food. The price however was very steep for what you get. My chair was very uncomfortable because of a lack of seat padding - it frlt like I was sitting on a toilet all night. There is no ambience at this location. We were put in s corner next to the waiters stand. At tines I couldn't even here my date.
Excellent food excellent service
Fantastic. As always. Our servers were knowledgeable and professional.
Great wine menu.
Our meal was Fabulous! We had the garlic bread, oysters, Caesar salad, steak filet with baked potato and shared the chocolate bourbon cake with a cappuccino. My husband had a martini and I had a Cosmo. Everything was done to perfection!! My only complaint is the garlic toast has changed over the years. I don’t love it as much as the older version.
Very good stakes. Very expensive. Very nice ambiance.
This Hys is timeless and a classic. The food and service always excellent. It is always a pleasurable experience. The service staff are the best prompt and talented - the table side service of Cesar salad and Irish coffees is an art that the service staff can be proud of.
The food was good but the prices were extremely high. Didn't like the waiting staff hovering over our table for complete meal. The house soda water had no carbonation and one of my guests had his drink removed from the table and he hadn't finished his drink.
We had a bad experience with a waiter 5 or so years ago & haven't gone back until now and glad we gave it another chance. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome. I had forgotten my parking ticket in my vehicle, they simply asked for key & where the vehicle was parked & they would take care of it. The seated us, told us to enjoy our evening everything will be taken of, 15 minutes later they returned with our keys & a validated parking ticket. The service just kept coming, our waiter & support staff was extremely pleasant and made some excellent suggestion when we were ordering our meals. It was refreshing to have that type service again. Our opinion has definitely changed & look forward to making our next reservation.
I'm not really happy with not fresh lettuce in my salad
Service was outstanding! Food was very well-prepared but just not flavourful. Good place to go if you want to impress(?) your date with the fact that you have enough money to not care about blowing $250 on a pretty bland meal. If you want delicious food, there are much better choices, most of which are much easier on the bank account!
The service was quick and friendly, and the food was delicious! It was my first time there and will definitely not be my last.
Hys was excellent as usual. The only thing that remains disappointing is the lack of prime rib on the menu. That remains a decision we have to make when planning a special dinner out.
Exceptional as usual - this place manages to pull off amazing consistency!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at HY's. The service was impeccable. The food was well prepared, although not presented on the plate in an engaging way. We did have one issue with a mix-up in order, but that was rectified quickly and efficiently.
Our only disappointment was not with the restaurant itself, but rather with other patrons immediately adjacent to us that chose to use their phones to receive and dial calls during dinner. Fortunately, they were near the end of their meal, but it was extraordinarily disruptive for what was meant to be a quiet and intimate dinner for us.
I don't usually leave reviews but I thought this time it was necessary. My husband and I decided to treat ourselves and celebrate our Anniversary. We both love food and have experienced many different cuisines in the city and around the world. Earlier in the year my husband went here for a business dinner and raved about the food and service. The evening started out well. Our waiter was pleasant and very helpful in providing guidance with wine selection and menu since it was my first time. Everything that followed was a complete disaster. Our waiter recommended the cheese toast for an appetizer so we decided to try it. I was speechless in the fact that it was toasted white bread with some sort of cheese that tasted like cheese whiz topped with parmesan. When the waiter returned to ask how it was we expressed our distaste of this popular dish. He kindly removed it from our table and the bill. Our main course arrived and I was excited to be overwhelmed with an infusion of taste especially after hearing all the glowing reviews. For the price and the taste or lack there of, I would have enjoyed a better steak at Earls. Dessert followed and again I was greatly disappointed. My husband and I shared the apple crisp. When he went earlier in the year it was made in front of him and he said it was amazing (picture attached). The consistency was not there. Our waiter brought us the dish and it looked like porridge with a scoop of ice cream on top. We also ordered coffee. Which tasted like it was sitting on the burner for the past 3 hours. For a high end restaurant, the quality of coffee and food should be better than this. The icing on the cake was when receiving the bill, without asking, it was delivered directly to my husband. The proper etiquette would be leaving it in the middle of the table. It was sexist to assume I wasn't the one to pay considering I was going to. In this day of age women can pay too. Overall disappointing after looking forward to always coming here.
Excellent service, very good food, tenderloin steaks were excellent , perfectly cooked , New York was unfortunately grisly and a bit tough. All in all very good but quite overpriced for the product.
This one visit, the food seemed sub-par. I had the Potato Pancake Stroganoff. I will say that normally whatever I order is excellent. This was not a normal experience for me. The service and ambiance were excellent as usual!
We came for dinner to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary. Our waiter was fantastic and the food and drinks were amazing! Such a fabulous place to celebrate!
Service was very good and the food was excellent tasty and just the right amount
Hadn’t been to this location before
Last time we were at Hy’s was in the old location
We used to come to Hy’s a lot but two burnt steaks it a row caused us to go elsewhere
We will consider coming back after this experience
Great experience! Our server Vincent was outstanding and made our night very memorable. Food was excellent.
The entire restaurant was available for seating but we were seated directly outside th kitchen. I ordered a steak medium-well and it came out charred and bleeding. Sent it back and a new one came out, not charred but even redder inside than the first one. Not wanting to wait even longer and waste more food, I did not accept a third try by the kitchen. For the price of the food ($48 for a 10 oz steak and potatoes...not even a veg or bread) and the reputation of being a top-notch restaurant, you would think they wouldn’t make these kind of mistakes. No other cpmpensation was made. I left dinner without having eaten. Thanks for the great Valentine’s Day meal...would never go back. Save your money...you can get amazing food elsewhere.
Thank you so much for the great Valentine's Day set up! Favorite place to eat in winnipeg! Chase
My girlfriend and I visited Hy's to celebrate our 4 year anniversary and the moment we walked in we knew we'd be coming back. The atmosphere is very relaxed yet elegant. I really liked that it was relatively quiet which made our visit rather enjoyable.
The food was incredible, we will definitely be back to try out more items of the menu.
this ia my new favorite place to eat in Winnipeg.
My wife and I went for valentines dinner. We started with cheese toast and it was ok not as good as it used to be at the former location. Next we had an ok spinach salad that would have been better if the bacon was crispy instead of rubbery and the egg was chopped instead of shredded. I had a peppercorn steak that was slightly under cooked and a bit chewy but good flavour. My green beans were overcooked a bit. The baked potato was very good. My mushrooms were good but over cooked. My wife had beef Wellington that was good but slightly over cooked. I was part way through by steak and bit down on something very hard possibly a peppercorn and it broke my tooth in half. Due to being in excruciating pain I had to leave immediately. The waiter was very apologetic about it and called the manager over who took my steak off the bill and gave us two desserts. The next day My dentist try to pull the tooth for two hours to no avail so I am now waiting to see a surgeon to have it removed. My dentist said I need a dental implant at a cost of $4,000. Don’t laugh too hard at my review but I is all true. I will go back to Hy’s to give it another shot but I won’t have the peppercorn steak!
Both the gentlemen who looked after us were outstanding, they made the evening relaxing and enjoyable.
My girlfriend and I went there just for a date. Food and service were excellent. Getting on the edge of pricey but it is what it is. Washrooms were very clean. Will go back. .Steak was excellent. Cooked a little less then medium but it doesn't matter. Many places won't over cook a good steak and they shouldn't.
This was my first time here and I loved it, beautiful, rich decor, professional service and amazing food. This will probably become an annual event for our anniversary.
