Hy's Steakhouse - Winnipeg Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I went for valentines dinner. We started with cheese toast and it was ok not as good as it used to be at the former location. Next we had an ok spinach salad that would have been better if the bacon was crispy instead of rubbery and the egg was chopped instead of shredded. I had a peppercorn steak that was slightly under cooked and a bit chewy but good flavour. My green beans were overcooked a bit. The baked potato was very good. My mushrooms were good but over cooked. My wife had beef Wellington that was good but slightly over cooked. I was part way through by steak and bit down on something very hard possibly a peppercorn and it broke my tooth in half. Due to being in excruciating pain I had to leave immediately. The waiter was very apologetic about it and called the manager over who took my steak off the bill and gave us two desserts. The next day My dentist try to pull the tooth for two hours to no avail so I am now waiting to see a surgeon to have it removed. My dentist said I need a dental implant at a cost of $4,000. Don’t laugh too hard at my review but I is all true. I will go back to Hy’s to give it another shot but I won’t have the peppercorn steak!
My girlfriend and I went there just for a date. Food and service were excellent. Getting on the edge of pricey but it is what it is. Washrooms were very clean. Will go back. .Steak was excellent. Cooked a little less then medium but it doesn't matter. Many places won't over cook a good steak and they shouldn't.
The service was outstanding. Attention to detail and to the comfort and wishes of the patron is superior.
The food was prepared to perfection. I had a dietary request. They exceeded my expectations. AS a result we stayed for a desert which we normally don't eat. It also was very tasty.
The top dining spot in Winnipeg in my mind.
Having not been here since they moved I was extremely disappointing noted. I won a gift certificate ( thank God) and I have never ever paid $100 for lunch for two. The waiter was fine and he brought us garlic toast supposedly for two (?????) three slices of white toast cut in half! I asked the waiter why it was like that and he said he would take it off the bill. Maybe they had run out of the usual bread but I do not expect white bread in a restaurant like that. My friends steak sandwich was great. My cannelloni was disappointing. It was supposed to be seafood-I found one tiny tiny shrimp and a tiny piece of what I think was lobster. We had an amazing creme brûlée for dessert the only thing that I really enjoyed. Even 529 is not as expensive for lunch and I'm so glad I wasn't paying! If we had to pay for the pathetic white bread toast the bill would have been over $100! Ridiculous. I'm sorry I'm not a businessman and able to write off my lunch as an expense so I cannot think of a reason to cone back
The food was excellent (YUM!) and the service was great. The cheese bread and the onion soup were outstanding as was the warm spinach salad prepared at our table. We were treated very well and the ambience was great too. Fine dining indeed! Service was excellent.
I was disappointed in hy’s. We went there to celebrate a couple special dates. The food was ok, nothing spectacular for the price we were charged. Ordered the steak and Dungeness crab and there was only a couple tiny pieces. There was not a lot of choices for smaller appetites . The key lime pie was the best thing about our families meal. I will not be making a second visit as the final bill was 500.00 with tip and the food wasn’t something that would make me go back. There was a very loud child there and only several tables so the child was extra loud.
Hy’s is a favourite. On this visit it was quiet busy. Everything was great, but the steaks were a little undercooked (asked for medium, definitely were more rare). No one really followed up when we got out food so just ate them. Other wise, everything was delicious! They even left us a little anniversary message on our dessert plate.
My wife, 15 year old son, and I had an excellent dining experience at Hy's a few days ago. The meal was extremely good (perfectly seasoned and cooked), served by very attentive and knowledgeable staff. For us, probably more for special occasions given the cost, although we did succumb to the choice appetizers and special coffees. Certainly well worth the experience. Also convenient for us as we live just a few blocks away, an added plus.
Our dinner experience at every level was fantastic led by tender perfectly prepared steaks. Personally my Beef Wellington was prepared to perfection and the tenderloin so tender it could have been cut by a fork. Presentation of all meals was impressive with the waiters simultaneously serving each meal. They remained attentive to all our needs as the evening progressed. We completely enjoyed our dinner, the ambiance and service.
I was looking forward to eating here after what I had been hearing. Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype. I had the $71 ride eye and It was disappointing. It had no flavour and tasted burnt at times. Sorry to say but I will not be eating at hys again. It’s way over priced for what you get. I will stick to the KEG.
