Hy's Steakhouse Whistler Ratings and Reviews
Loved this place... we all really enjoyed it and food was amazing. Pricey but so is everything else. Had the ahi tuna (amazing) and rib eye steak. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had.
I was very surprised but pleased when the general manager called about our recent dining experience. We went through each issue and addressed what could be done to make things better for future diners. Thank you Michael for reaching out and being proactive.
This was not our first visit here, but on this occasion we were disappointed with the service. Our waiter spent all his time fawning over a table of 4 nearby to the detriment of his other tables. The appetisers arrived promptly after ordering, but the wait for the mains was too long. On enquiring we were told we were waiting in line. There is no doubt the restaurant was busy for Valentine's, but they should only seat the number of tables the kitchen can cater for. When our mains arrived they seemed to be a bit dried out as if they had been waiting in the kitchen for a server to pick them up, so maybe the problem was not with the kitchen at all. On leaving we were asked if we enjoyed our evening, and we explained about the long wait for our mains. The manager punched a few buttons on his computer as if to see where we had been seated, but did not offer any comment or apology.
The food was amazing service was pretty good. But no up and above for my wife’s birthday and our 16th anniversary return dinner. I was expecting more in this aspect. Again food was amazing!
Bar was good and the barman was a truw professional. We paud over $170 for a nice bottle of wine but we didn’t finish it as the steak was average. I’ve been to Hy’s on two separate holidays and its sad to say that this’ll be the late time as we’ve had far superior meals for half the price. So if you are looking for value for money then it’s not tyr place for you. If you are looking for a nice setting with good drinks menu and aren’t that fussed about the food (or price) then go.
The steak preparation was very good. The seasoning, meat quality and cooking temperature produced a juicy bone-in ribeye. Service was quick and efficient, although a little aloof and pleasantries seemed forced.
As a group of 8, we got a lovely round table and ordered cocktails (delicious!). We took the server's suggestion of ordering a selection of meats and sides to share. Everything was beautifully cooked, but could have eaten more!
First as a table for 2, they first tried to seat us at a table that was clearly stuck in where one did not belong. It wears by an unlit corner, beside a column, and near a door. So we opted to sit at the bar.
We ordered at 8:10pm and our apps came out in few minutes. So far so good, however my salad was nearly inedible as the lettuce was under developed and hard, and served as a wedge, uncut which made it very hard to eat.
Then we waited almost 90 minutes for our entrees. 2 steaks at a steak house and it took an hour and a half. In addition, the steaks were not cooked as ordered. My friend who ordered his medium was served a very rare steak which he could not eat.
The manager inexplicably took one of the steaks off the bill , when we both waited the exact same time. By the way, I ordered a side of sautéed broccoli and was served steamed, bland, broccoli.
Everyone was nice and apologetic, but the price was high enough that that should never happen. Finally the manager told us That the delay was because the kitchen was busy... seriously?
Not at all what we expected. From arriving for our reservation on time and told our table was not ready and told to sit on a chair in the hallway-we asked to sit at the bar and the A’s I sat they said ‘oh, your table is ready’
We went over to our table and there were in fact 4 travels unoccupied.
Our waiter was unkempt looking, leaned on the wall as he talked to us, not engaged or caring of us as customers. Never even suggested sauces to accompany our steaks.
Do not go unless you want over priced food with bad service
Came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. Our server was very engaging and made for a memorable experience. Food was exceptional! Everyone in our foursome kept bringing up the dinner long after the evening had ended. 👍
I have gone to Hy’s for the last 15 Years each time we have visited Whistler. This year was very disappointing. I brought a wonderful bottle of wine in which I was charged $50 for corkage fee, after buying two bottles of wine from Hy’s. My years in medical sales entertaining customers, I have never paid such a corkage fee. We spent $1000. At this dinner. The management was rude and ungrateful of our business. I will not give my business to Hy’s in any near future. Shame on them.
Excellent meal. Excellent service. Great wine and a wonderful night. Our server Sebastian made it a great night!
I really wanted to like my steak here, but my 8 oz. filet, while not offensive, was tasteless. The cut of the meat was less than 1" thick, much thinner than the finer steak places that I have been to (and I have been to many). I ordered the filet cooked medium, and most likely because of the thin cut, there was no sear on the outside, no pink center, and gray in color throughout. My daughter had the lobster tail, which I tried and found to be overdone and rubbery. My wife had the pomfret fish (also known as "butterfish") and it was excellent. I do have to say that our waiter was very engaging and the service was wonderful. I probably will not go back given the other fine dining choices in Whistler.
I was not impressed with the food. The French onion soup was way too salty, the gorgonzola filet was TINY and lacking in flavour. The accompanying mashed potatoes seemed out of a box. The creamed spinach (usually one of my faves) was tasteless. Won't go back. Experience was unauthentic and unremarkable.
We’ve been coming to Hy’s for over 10 years and in recent years with our three sons. The boys dream about your cheese toast! And of course, the steak.
The food and service is exceptional. The evening always starts with a Cosmopolitan followed by a good red. So loved drinking the Road 13! Thank you!!
We were very disappointed with the service. We were still choosing our wine and we told our waiter that we wouldn’t be having appetizers and would like to wait to order our mains. The waiter told us that there was a 40 minute wait for mains so we better put our order in, so we immediately ordered our food. Then we ordered a lovely bottle of wine with the sommelier. Just as he was pouring the first glass of wine, our mains arrived! This was about 10 minutes after we had ordered them. We were expecting time to enjoy a glass of wine before our food arrived. It was very disappointing to feel rushed. We heard our server say the same thing about the 40 minute wait to the table next us.
The food was amazing, we loved the steak and sides. The sommelier recommended an amazing BC wine and we really enjoyed it.
If you dine here I recommend you space your ordering yourself so that your food doesn’t arrive too quickly. For the quality of the food here and the prices you pay, you shouldn’t have to worry about that. Unfortunately, from our experience, you do.
Amazing food and impeccable service. We loved it! The steak was excellent. My son had the Surf & Turf and said it was the best lobester he had ever had. Don't go past the onion rings which were also fabulous. No children's menu is offered but they will do special children's meals if you ask
Good meal and service. It took our mains over an hour to arrive and though it was a busy evening, there wasn’t much of a mention except to expect them in ‘5 minutes.’ My sons steak was pretty undercooked for a medium rare. They remade it but still charged us for it.
Finally, we were looking to order dessert when our waiter said they had a 9PM seating at our table. He quickly came back to say we were ok because they found them another table, but the whole interaction seemed poor. Not only were they slow in their service but then they wanted to kick us out even though we wanted to spend more.
Anyway, I’m a fan of Hy’s but this evening was a bit disappointing.
