Our service team (Theresa, Randy, and Kirby) were superb in their knowledge, friendliness, and excellent quality of service. We had a 7:30 reservation. They were very busy. Which is understandable. But we waited an extra 30 minutes in this “very ugly/tacky” holding area that apparently belongs to the hotel. I requested a cocktail, but that was not possible. When we were finally seated it took a while to be offered a drink. Once they caught up with the crowd, the service was outstanding. Very professional, friendly and attentive.
We had heard wonderful things about the food and were disappointed. First off, the reason we came to this restaurant was for the tomahawk steak for two. Sold out. Then we tried to order something else on the specialty menus on line, only to find out it was no longer offered.
My husbands steak was very fatty (at $90 this is unacceptable) and the baked potatoes were not very warm. My filet was good, baked potato not hot, green beans overcooked the side order of asparagus and hollandaise were not hot and the sauce was cool. My scallops wrapped in bacon were not good at all and had a funky taste. They did take them off my bill, which I appreciated. They did send out a complimentary dessert for our anniversary, which was kind. Banana Foster was wonderful. Impression/underwhelmed.
It’s always a pleasant dining experience at Hys. I think among the other steakhouses here in the island, Hys is my favorite. Steaks are consistently grilled to doneness every time I dine here. Their cheesecakes and flambé desserts are a must-try.
We will definitely be back here when the relatives are visiting.

We went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Our server was Stephanie and she was excellent. It was the first time in about 30 years that we had a female server! She was the bomb and I say it’s about time!
Hy’s never disappoints. We visit Waikiki every year & always dine at this superb restaurant. Food is superb & service is impeccable. We’ll be back again & again.
We loved our booth in the library where we had a great view iof the entire main dining room. The service provided by our waiter Sheldon was exceptional. My garlic steak was cooked to perfection. However, the chicken my husband ordered was tough and dry. We thoroughly enjoyed the escargots and the bananas flambeau. All in all I truly enjoyed my birthday dinner.

Overall excellent experience. Very pricey but worth it for a social occasion. Food was very good. There is a strict dress code you must abide by. No complaints at all.

We went for a special occasion and have been here before. Normally this is a five star experience but we were SHOCKED at how many families were in the restaurant with small children at 8:30 at night. Half were crying and the other half were asleep. One was even allowed to crawl on top of the table. None of this is Hy’s fault, but it would be difficult to have a romantic dinner for two with all the commotion. Is there a way to request not to be seated in the “family room” in the future?
We are steak lovers and enjoy exploring new venues. What impressed us first was the decor of the place the rich wooden paneling and feel of a classic high end steak house. They literally have the chef who prepares the steaks on a glass encased station that the glass was framed in rich mahogany carved posts. The chef was preparing the steaks on a wood fired grill, this I think is the main reason to come here - our steaks were perfectly prepared with an amazing Smokey flavor reminiscent of a mild mesquite flavor. Mine was prepared a perfect medium rare. My wife’s filet she said melted in her mouth. The baked potatoes were delicious and had a Smokey flavor as well.
On the negative side we always bring our own bottle of wine and were surprised that their corkage fee was $50.00 this is the highest fee we have ever been charged and we thought excessive. We also ordered their table side Cesar salad and were surprised that we were charged each $18.00 per person again we felt this was exorbitant for the item. The flavor of the salad was good but the server they had for us prepare it was in training and he forgot to add an important last ingredient - Parmesan cheese it would have been perfect had he added that last piece to the salad . Overall we liked the place and recommend it and enjoyed our meal.
Best steak restaurant. The shrimp risotto was also excellent. Fantastic service.

It was my birthday and of all the steak houses we’ve eaten at this was the best in my opinion. First off the front door is 10 feet away from your FREE valet parking which is a big plus for me. We actually arrived 45 minutes early but they were able to seat us in about 5 minutes after waiting in the lounge. The ambiance was relaxing especially with Audi Kimura playing. The ambience was AMAZING! The servers were ALL excellent. We felt pampered. First time here and it definitely felt like an upscale date night. Will return for special occasions in the future. The chef’s grilling room was such a cool touch. We both enjoyed our meals. The lobster bisque was superb!
