We really enjoyed visiting this restaurant. We went early evening, so it wasn't very busy yet so it was a quiet atmosphere. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. We really liked the food that we ordered and found the place to be very comfortable and cozy. We liked that it had a neighborhood feel to it. It was nice not to be in touristy area.
Had the halibut off the specials board. Disappointed with the starter we chose. Decent wine selection.
Been coming here for many years, every time we visit San Francisco. The food is consistently good, and very reasonably priced. It was very quiet when we went, which is a shame, the place deserves to be busy all the time.
We will definitely be back when we return.
We had Swordfish, scallop fettuccini, salmon and cioppino. The fettuccini and the sordfish were good. The salmon was fresh and well prepared (wrapped in parchment) but I found it very bland. But the quality of the ingredients was great. I just like bolder flavors.
The cioppino was a huge disappointment. The menu said it was in a marinara sauce. That’s exactly what it was...tasted like spaghetti sauce. Should have believed the menu.
The service was very disappointing. Our waitress was kind and offered that the service was poor because they were under staffed.

It is a nice neighborhood spot. It just wasn’t what we were looking for and the service was so poor that it made the evening a disappointment.
We went on Valentine's Day. The place was full, but not swamped. They had some empty tables. But I heard someone else say they had only three people in the kitchen. I'm not sure what they were thinking. The service was astonishingly bad. Our waitress greeted us with a grim look and, "Are you ready?" She didn't smile. She didn't ask if we wanted drinks or if we had questions. We barely saw her the entire meal. There was a Faulty Towers-eqsue episode (an earlier review says this and it SO accurate) involving our appetizer where the manager and the waitress kept trying to shuffle the oysters back and forth between our table and our neighbors. The poor table next to us got there thirty minutes before us but were served much later, and they had to beg to get their food served at all. They had a horrendous experience and the manager wouldn't even comp their entire meal and drinks. The one time the waitress came during our meal, she asked us a question and then immediately turned away and walked off before we could answer. It was so ridiculous it was funny. If you enjoy participating in your very own live action britcom from the good old days, then you'll love this place. Otherwise, I'd avoid it.
It was truly terrible in every aspect, I want my money back! I repeatedly tried to ignore the bad things as I wanted to like this place and have another neighborhood restaurant to go to but they just kept failing big. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone ever, maybe if I had to go out to a work dinner, with people I didn’t like, and I was full from lunch, and I had hours and hours to kill.
This was one of our worst food experiences in SF in 15 years living here. When we walked in, the restaurant was only half full. Nonetheless, it took an hour to get our starter, and another 40 mins to get our main course. There was never an apology, only an explanation that "the kitchen is really small." If that's true, either have less tables, or set customers' expectations appropriately for a delay. Moreover, the food wasn't great. We asked for a medium-rare steak with the surf n turf, and yet it was completely overcooked (brown not pink in the middle). The lobster tail was very good, but everything else was average at best. And there were far too few staff who were run off their feet. I felt bad for them, but also very annoyed that management could run the restaurant so poorly.
The proprietors met us and were warm and friendly. We had the bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer and it was delicious. I got the catch of the day (halibut) that was cooked to perfection. My wife got the potato encrusted King Salmon which she enjoyed very much. We were never rushed and we had time to talk and enjoy our meals. We would definitely go there again.
My friend and I had oysters, stuffed trout, and salmon. All excellent. Great neighborhood spot on Hyde, with cable cars going by. Wonderful local spot for over 30 years. Nice staff, not too crowded.
If you think you need more seafood in your diet, this is your place. So many choices, can probably eat on a regular basis and keep discovering new things. I hope you'll be as satisfied as we were.
The service is excellent. The appitizers and salad were great. The lobster and crab were a bit over done.
Relatively simple fare. Good fresh ingredients especially seafood.
Warm greeting and nice server, great oyster happy hour, both the halibut and ahi specials were super delicious. My regret, how have I lived in the neighborhood next door all these years & never been here before! I'll be back and bring others.
Friendly wonderful place with an amazing fresh fish menu. The lobster bisque is outstanding. Ambiance is warm and cozy.

With reservations through open table we were immediately seated. I had the Chopino it was to die for. My guest had the seafood baked in parchment. Divine 5 star
We had our Christmas dinner at Hyde Street Seafood and Bar. The main dining area was cozy and full of character. All three of us enjoyed our meals. The service was a bit slow, but we were in no hurry, so it just fine. I would go back again next time we visit San Francisco.
We hadn't been to the Hyde St Seafood House & Raw Bar in several years, so thought it was time for visit. I was pleased to see that it had held up so well. It definitely fits the neighborhood gem category. The service is inviting and friendly, the cliental mostly locals, the wine by the glass pours are generous, and the food is comforting if not overly exciting - basics executed well. For an appetizer we had oysters - they brought a variety, and they were excellent; as good as I've had anywhere locally. This was especially notable on a relatively slow Thursday night. The Cioppino that I ordered was packed with fish and shell fish in a tangy tomato broth - well done.
Very nice waitstaff. Not very many people there. Calamari was too notch

So happy I booked this spot! Traveling alone for business and wanted a nice seafood place. Loved the halibut in parchment paper with julienne veggies. Service was excellent and really enjoyed speaking with my waitress. Will recommend and hope to come back!!
The Fawlty Towers of San Francisco! Literally the worst service I've ever had! Awful wine list! Saved by the best lobster ravioli I've had in ages!!
The waitress had a put upon attitude. The restaurant was 80 percent empty in a Saturday night. This place is not doing well. I think it was the waitresses fault that I won't be going back because the food was clean fresh and simply prepared.

Don't believe this is a 4 star restaurant. The food was TERRIBLE! The clam chowder was from a can with no flavor. I had to put a ton of salt in it to be able to taste it. The scallops weren't cooked well and in some weird cream sauce.
There were only two servers for the entire restaurant.
My family and I couldn't wait to get out of there.
We went somewhere else to get dessert to get the taste of the meal out of our mouths.
Avoid at all costs.

I have been there a number of times, and this time it was awful. The service was slow, the food was cold, over/under cooked, and didn't taste right. I'm not sure if they changed chefs but I will not go back.
The happy hour at this restaurant was amazing. The oysters were great and you had a selection of a number of oysters rather than the chef choosing one time. You have to go there.

Nice, quiet place. Food was good. My biggest disappointment was that the portion size for our orders weren't that big. I'm a big eater so I like my food! Also, on my wife's order, it called for tomatoes in the sauce with fish but they forgot to add the tomatoes. They ended up bringing out just a raw cut up tomato, a little hard and unripened, to compensate. Nice gesture, but not quite the same!
I chose this restaurant because it was the only one available to accommodate my large part (5) at the last minute. In dining here, I understand why they have open availability...
