Hyde Street Seafood House & Raw Bar
Great food and service!
My friend got sick after eating the mussels. The sword fish was not eatable. Avoid
Great hidden gem on Russian Hill!
The staff is very friendly and sweet. The restaurant is clean and elegant. I ordered the scallops and loved them!! The “secret coffee” on the dessert menu was delicious as well. I will definitely come back.
what i wrote to the restaurant.
"Why is the restaurant next to you (Cocotte?) full when you are half empty? Because, while mostly good food, no decent heating outside, bad wine glasses that only old-fashioned, mediocre restaurants use, and what is with the crab cakes?? mostly breadcrumbs with no taste of crab??!! The response to our dissatisfaction---"We have been serving it for years and all our patrons like it." Not a good response, especially when the restaurant is less than 1/2 full. And the key lime pie---- should be much lighter. Anyway you are very nice but if you want to make more people happy and make more money, do not be so cheap. Do things right and it will pay off for you!
The service was outstanding and the food delicious!
Last night was the first time we’ve dined at the Hyde Street Seafood Restaurant in 30 years. It’s not that we avoided it. We have not visited San Francisco in 30 years too. It did not disappoint. The same great chef and the same great food even after all of these years. We won’t wait this long before returning. Thanks for a great meal.
We arrived early and were given the option to dine indoors or out. We chose inside. We were seated immediately by the very gracious hostess who also turned out to be our server. She was knowledgeable about the menu and made helpful suggestions. Everyone in our party was very impressed with the quality of the food. When we re-visit SFO, we will definitely return!
Phenomenal food, service, and experience!
Very good meal. Small local place.
Loved this place! The food and service was really good. My fiancé and I had a great time.
Great little place. We had the lobster bisque, Cajun shrimp and scallops and the local sea bass cooked in the parchment paper style. All excellent! Our server was very good and knew the entire menu and was helpful selecting our fume blanc wine, also excellent. Highly recommend and will be back!
This is a sweet local restaurant which has been here since 1985. I want it to survive. There was hardly anyone there the night we were dining. It has all the qualities of neighborhood spot that you could possibly want. We're just visiting. I hope the locals keep showing up.
We wanted this to be a great experience, but it fell short. The service wasn’t great, and we definitely understand that many places are understaffed. But they seated so many tables for only the two of them to run the dining room. The food was fine. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad.
This restaurant has an extensive seafood menu - one of the best we've seen in San Francisco. We ate outside, but the inside is attractive and not overly crowded with tables. Among the 4 of us, we had 5 different plates and they were all excellent.
Outstanding food and service. The banana bread pudding is to die for.
Nice atmosphere with and excellent menu. Henry was a fun and very interesting server who kept us laughing a lot. Indoor and outdoor service,
The restaurant was so clean you could eat off the floor, and the food was delicious. I assume it was the owners who were working the restaurant, and they were so kind and welcoming. They were also a lot of fun. We had a great time!!!
Food here is just completely bland. Clam chowder had no flavor. The parchment wrapped seafood was awful. Overcooked, and the vegetables were mostly cabbage. This is NOT French cooking. Just so disappointing. The place is cute and could be awesome. The male server was very nice. The female server was nice but so rude. I was in the middle of speaking with her and she just started to talk to someone else across the room. I’m sorry to leave this bad review but I wouldn’t want anyone else to waste as much money as we did.
So happy to be able to come back to one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants!
Good food, good value, cordial but not intrusive staff, pleasant atmosphere.
Food was good, service was a bit lacking but given all of the recent challenges that is understandable. Would give them a try again in the future.
Amazing food in cozy local eatery
This was our first time at Hyde Street Seafood House and Raw Bar, but it won't be our last! We just moved to the neighborhood and decided to try it out for my birthday. We sat at a table on the sidewalk, and loved the atmosphere. I ordered the stuffed prawns and it was DELICIOUS. Rich and buttery and tasty: exactly what I wanted for a special meal! My husband had the sea bass in parchment paper. He did say that it needed salt, but once he added salt he was very happy with the flavor. Our server was so sweet and attentive. About halfway through our dinner, a musician began to play at the neighboring restaurant, adding to the wonderful experience. We will be back!
Very nice little neighborhood seafood restaurant. They offered two selections of raw oysters and both were very fresh and extremely tasty served with both cocktail sauce and a vinegar dipping sauce. The entrees were also very fresh tasting, served hot and offered delicious creme sauce accompaniment. The ambience is set with sea fairing charts, fish and sail boats that make you feel as if you are on the docks and the music was classic and in the background enable easy conversation.
The waitress was just amazing snd the food was excellent.
It was our forst dining in experience in 14 months, special!
Maybe the worst service I have experienced in 40 years if dinning.
Slowest, most non responsive service I’ve ever had.
Amazing food. Presentation not as good as I would’ve expected but the taste was GREAT. Will definitely be back to try more of their unique dishes.
outside tables are wonderful! service and food are great, my friends love the oysters
Great food. Friendly service.
I've been to this restaurance twice. The first time, it was an enjoyable experience. I went on a Friday night; there were a ton of people, the service was great and the food was good. The second time, I was disappointed by the service and food. The server insulted my friend (telling her she looked like she was 16 after she ordered her alcohol), took over 20 minutes to bring out cold oysters, and my clam chowder was not warm enough. I also was disappointed by the fact that there weren't heat lamps and we were sitting outside in the cold.
Not a very good dining experience all the way around; food was not up to the level of other area restaurants like the french rotisserie next door which is outstanding
Excellently prepared fresh fish. Very nice service.
Always love this place, glad to see they were able to open for outdoor dining. good heat lamps and great service.
We live a few blocks away and eat here often. Great food, pleasant outdoor dining. The restaurant next door has live jazz music for both restaurants to enjoy. Like being on vacation!
I am not one to right a negative review especially during these times as people are getting back in the swing of things but I feel like something has to be said! I made a reservation in advance, we arrived 5-7 min early for our 730 time and noticed a lot of people waiting we had to wait another 45-50 min to be seated, while we were waiting I tried to help the hostess as she couldn’t keep track of who was to be seated next and had to keep reminding her! when we were seated it took at least 10-15 min for anyone to come to our table we ended up ordering everything at once to get things moving! the oysters were great but we could only order 1 order which i didn’t understand when I noticed tables around us getting multiple orders, my steak was completely burned, the veggies were still frozen and the potatoes were instant from a box. there was a server taking shots and picking up peoples food off their plates, they didn’t try to rectify any situations and ended up still paying over 200 bucks on our “meal”. we know these are trying times, I have worked in this industry for over 10 years and we tried giving the benefit of the doubt as we want to support local places but after this experience there is no way I will be coming back here.
Made reservations for 7:30. We show up at 7:15pm, and wait until 8pm until we decide to see what’s going on. We were still 5th in line until we got seated. We left and will not be returning.
Got there on time with a 7:00 reservation. Made my reservation several days in advance. They said it's an hour wait. I said we had a reservation and they said those people have been here since 6. I said we still had a reservation. I asked if I could get drinks and she said no that's too complicated. The didn't even apologize. People waiting for tables had to wait outside in the rain for their table. My boyfriend tried to ask the manager a question and he turned his back and walked away. On Valentine's Day a reservation should be at least within 15-20 minutes max wait time. Many tables had empty plates. Meaning all that all those waiting could have been sat. Never experienced this and we were treated like total crap. Spent $20 on an Uber to get here too and $20 back. We were treated like we were useless. Worst restaurant experience I have ever had by far! Reservations should be priority. They don't care about new customers. Horrible horrible. At this point there was no way we could have been sat at another restaurant due to it being Valentine’s Day
Let me start with the food was really good. Stuffed trout was very tasty and the wine we paired added to the flavor. Others had French Onion soup and stuff prawns. Everyone enjoyed the food and a very good price.
Unfortunately, as with many smaller restaurants during the pandemic, they are struggling with not having enough servers and front-line people. We had a reservation and still had to wait an hour for our table. Would not have minded if someone would have taken our drink order upfront, but we were seated 25 min before the person with the water came by and no drinks for another 10 min.
The hostess seemed a bit stressed and unorganized (had to confirm several times we had a reservation). They were working with 1 server, 1 hostess in the front. Others who sat down before us shared the same...and their best tip was - "order everything at once" so you don't have to wait forever for your drinks, apps & dinner (don't worry, everything will still be paced out) Food - A, Service - C
