outside tables are wonderful! service and food are great, my friends love the oysters
Great food. Friendly service.
I've been to this restaurance twice. The first time, it was an enjoyable experience. I went on a Friday night; there were a ton of people, the service was great and the food was good. The second time, I was disappointed by the service and food. The server insulted my friend (telling her she looked like she was 16 after she ordered her alcohol), took over 20 minutes to bring out cold oysters, and my clam chowder was not warm enough. I also was disappointed by the fact that there weren't heat lamps and we were sitting outside in the cold.
Not a very good dining experience all the way around; food was not up to the level of other area restaurants like the french rotisserie next door which is outstanding
Excellently prepared fresh fish. Very nice service.
Always love this place, glad to see they were able to open for outdoor dining. good heat lamps and great service.
We live a few blocks away and eat here often. Great food, pleasant outdoor dining. The restaurant next door has live jazz music for both restaurants to enjoy. Like being on vacation!
I am not one to right a negative review especially during these times as people are getting back in the swing of things but I feel like something has to be said! I made a reservation in advance, we arrived 5-7 min early for our 730 time and noticed a lot of people waiting we had to wait another 45-50 min to be seated, while we were waiting I tried to help the hostess as she couldn’t keep track of who was to be seated next and had to keep reminding her! when we were seated it took at least 10-15 min for anyone to come to our table we ended up ordering everything at once to get things moving! the oysters were great but we could only order 1 order which i didn’t understand when I noticed tables around us getting multiple orders, my steak was completely burned, the veggies were still frozen and the potatoes were instant from a box. there was a server taking shots and picking up peoples food off their plates, they didn’t try to rectify any situations and ended up still paying over 200 bucks on our “meal”. we know these are trying times, I have worked in this industry for over 10 years and we tried giving the benefit of the doubt as we want to support local places but after this experience there is no way I will be coming back here.
Made reservations for 7:30. We show up at 7:15pm, and wait until 8pm until we decide to see what’s going on. We were still 5th in line until we got seated. We left and will not be returning.
Got there on time with a 7:00 reservation. Made my reservation several days in advance. They said it's an hour wait. I said we had a reservation and they said those people have been here since 6. I said we still had a reservation. I asked if I could get drinks and she said no that's too complicated. The didn't even apologize. People waiting for tables had to wait outside in the rain for their table. My boyfriend tried to ask the manager a question and he turned his back and walked away. On Valentine's Day a reservation should be at least within 15-20 minutes max wait time. Many tables had empty plates. Meaning all that all those waiting could have been sat. Never experienced this and we were treated like total crap. Spent $20 on an Uber to get here too and $20 back. We were treated like we were useless. Worst restaurant experience I have ever had by far! Reservations should be priority. They don't care about new customers. Horrible horrible. At this point there was no way we could have been sat at another restaurant due to it being Valentine’s Day
Let me start with the food was really good. Stuffed trout was very tasty and the wine we paired added to the flavor. Others had French Onion soup and stuff prawns. Everyone enjoyed the food and a very good price.
Unfortunately, as with many smaller restaurants during the pandemic, they are struggling with not having enough servers and front-line people. We had a reservation and still had to wait an hour for our table. Would not have minded if someone would have taken our drink order upfront, but we were seated 25 min before the person with the water came by and no drinks for another 10 min.
The hostess seemed a bit stressed and unorganized (had to confirm several times we had a reservation). They were working with 1 server, 1 hostess in the front. Others who sat down before us shared the same...and their best tip was - "order everything at once" so you don't have to wait forever for your drinks, apps & dinner (don't worry, everything will still be paced out) Food - A, Service - C
I understand that we are in strange times and restaurants have to constantly adjust to the new dynamic of the pandemic so I try to be patient and understanding. We go out at least once or twice a week to eat and we have had a number of conversations with owners and staff about the challenges. Yesterday we arrived for our 7pm reservation and we were barely greeted by a woman who was mumbling that there were no tables. I said we have a 7pm reservation and we don’t mind waiting but from the get go she was confused about whether she wouldn’t be able to sit us . She was running around in different parts of the restaurant without really acknowledging us and the situation. There was no clear information of what we should expect or what is happening. Should we wait? How long is the wait? Are we going to eat or not? It was a very frustrating moment. If she had just said, “I’m sorry, we are completely overwhelmed and I won’t be able to sit you for an hour even if you made a reservation, we are short staffed and are running late” I would have at least understood. But no, she was dismissive and rude. So we left and had a fabulous dinner somewhere else. Can’t write about the food since we didn’t try it but service was terrible.
Food was EXCELLENT but service was horrible, servers overwhelmed and overbooked
The food was pretty good, really enjoyed the petite lobster tails. However, service was incredibly slow and we didn’t even get our entrees at the same time. They were nice about it so it made us feel better, but it was difficult to wait out in the cold that long.
The food and service was great
Their specialty is en papillote, and unfortunately, they aren’t very good at making this dish. Vegetables were poorly prepared and seasoning was bland. Fish was over cooked. We ordered a whole Dungeness crab, it was also over cooked. In general the food preparation was poor. Their kitchen staff needs updated training if they are going to stay in business.
This is specifically about the CoViD January experience which was better than decent but not amazing. It’s challenging so I was understanding, only one woman tending to all 8-10 tables they had as well as to go orders (not a big number) really the food was great, oysters were fresh, fish tasted great and was just a smidge over cooked but still delicious and sauce and sides were great.
Value was amazing for happy hour, had 2 glasses each of awesome Brut Rose for 9 a piece and a dozen oysters with a lobster bisque and two entrees all for 125 plus a 20 dollar tip
I would go back, but I will likely try some other locations first as there are 5 other restaurants in eyesight from the table we sat at.
Sophia is doing it all, every table, with grace.
The food was excellent and it's nice to be out again
Everything we ate was fantastic and our server was so sweet!
Incredible service and food. If looking to indulge in oysters do not pass up on the happy hour deal.
Food is awesome - we tried oysters, catch of the day and onion soup, last one is exactly what you will get in Paris ( okay very close to this )). Wine list is rich, on desert it was delicious chocolate cheesecake. Highly recommended place, prices are moderate.
Waitress was pleasant, cordial, and attentive. However, the sourdough bread was of a poor quality and no taste at all. Appetizers were tasty, but main course were a bit blend lacking flavor.
The restaurant needs improvement. While I’m sure many locals have built a relationship and have expectations of what to expect, this is not worth the money or time.
Unfortunately this was not the night for Hyde St. seafood. The waitress tried her best but she was the only one working and was super overworked. It was over 90 minutes before we got our food, multiple parts of our order were wrong or forgotten, and the food was mediocre despite the cost. Given that our salads and entrees were both wrong and/or missing (a key component of one dish was “out” but we were not informed until the dish came to the fable), it was crazy expensive. I realize that everyone is stretched during COVID but this was definitely beyond that. We won’t be eating here again, nor would we recommend it.
Always great food/experience at Hyde Street Seafood. We will be back!
Had to dine outside due to Covid, but nice evening. Great service and Halibut was excellent. Would definitely dine here again. The Key Lime pie dessert is also great.
Great restaurant find. Food was great. I will be back.
Food was delicious. I’ve never had creamy oysters so that was a fun experience. The happy hour menu is full of great wine and food selections I definitely recommend. Street side dining was great where we were.
This place is a FIND! Really tasty seafood which was incredibly moist (en papapallot) wrapped in parchment or prepared otherwise... Reasonably priced... Good Happy Hour offerings. Decent wine...
Great to be able to eat outside!
Gamey escargot, but lobster bisque was good. Salmon was good but pairing with red wine sauce was odd and stuffed prawns were only fair.
What a neighborhood gem. Exactly the kind of unpretentious comfort fare that SF often lacks.
A neighborhood gem with creative cuisine and healthy options. Love that the cable car runs right outside of it so it’s quintessential San Francisco!
Had a hair in my salad. Would not recommend or go back to
A little bistro with great seafood! We came for dinner on a Saturday evening before visiting friends who live nearby. We came early to have a relaxed meal, and enjoyed the happy hour wine prices. Not many customers, which is sad for the restaurant, but lovely for us. Food was delicious. On the Hyde Street Cabe Car line, so I assume they get more customers from out-of-town, especially in summer. Much better and quieter than the restaurants and bars on Polk Street.
We had a fantastic dinner here. Escargots and oysters were fresh and delicious, my snapper entree was cooked to perfection. The wine selection is great and reasonably priced. The restaurant was not very busy, thus it was quiet and we had a relaxing dining experience.
Excelente atención
the food is really good! and the staff is very attentive -- and they sensed that we wanted to talk so they didn't rush us along.
Excellent fresh and flavorful food. It was quiet enough on a weeknight to allow for comfortable conversation in a large group.
The restaurant was not busy at 5pm on Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend...not a surprise. The food and service we're very good.
