About Husk - Charleston

Centrally located in historic downtown Charleston, Husk transforms the essence of Southern food.Led by Chef/Partner Sean Brock and Executive Chef Travis Grimes the kitchen reinterprets the bounty of the surrounding area, exploring an ingredient-driven cuisine that begins in the rediscovery of heirloom products and redefines what it means to cook and eat in Charleston. At Husk, there are some rules about what can go on the plate – if it doesn’t come from the South, it’s not coming through the door. The restaurant is as casual as it is chic, evoking a way of life centered on seasonality and the grand traditions of Charleston life. It is a neighborhood gathering place for friends, and a destination dining spot for travelers, with a little bite of the South for everyone’s palates.

Overall it was a nice experience. The food was good, but not worth the price tag. The only reason I wouldn't recommend Husk is because I feel you can get better food for less, elsewhere.

Delightful meal at Husk for our anniversary. Felt perfectly attended to and the food was delicious! Extensive wine list of which our waiter was very well versed on. Pleasant experience, would definitely return!

Started off lovely - special menu and care in seating me. Fabulous descriptions of food and preparation - obviously took pride in chef and prep. My app was amazing - oyster stew. And corn bread to die for served in a skillet. But then the service was so very blah, and I couldn’t get my waiter’s attention after that. I could barely get a water refill. My main was a very salty, fatty pork with no nuance or depth. That was disappointing. They redeemed themselves again at dessert when I asked for just ice cream and it came beautifully plated on a cushion of gingerbread crumbs. Lovely. But for over $100 with a single cocktail and no wine, it just wasn’t all that.

Husk was the absolute highlight of our time in Charleston. We at such good food over the week we were there and Husk was a highlight, both for the food itself which was very tasty and creative and the service which was wonderful.

The food was good, but did not live up to all the "hype". My main course, which sounded like chicken and dumplings, was only "fair" (ok, it was just chicken, but nothing like chicken and dumplings...watery style, flavorless sauce). The appetizer portions were quite large (enough to share), but the waiter didn't tell us, so we were already full before the main course. That is the only reason I marked down the "Service" rating.

For years I have heard the hype about this place, and they had a reservation while we were in town available so we booked it, but I must say, it was nothing super special. The food was okay but many other Charleston restaurants are better imo. Cool place though and the bar next door was beautiful!

Husk had been highly recommend to us and we came in with high expectations. Unfortunately, the expectations were not met. We ordered oysters, a pork dish, and confit duck leg. The oysters were okay but didn't have the saltiness you would expect. My duck was fantastic, I would order that again in a heartbeat. My husband's pork dish was awful. It was bland with murky flavors.

The biggest disappointment was the service. We were extremely rushed by the waitress. We had barely sat down when she wanted to know what we wanted from the bar. The rest of the meal followed suit. She just seemed very annoyed to be serving us. Everywhere else we went in Charleston had amazing service, so the service here stuck out as particularly bad. Hope we caught them on an off day. If my duck was any indication of what the experience could be, it's a shame that we had the experience we did.

Wonderful evening with my husband. In Charleston for a wedding and this was the only dinner we could dine out alone. It was a pre-birthday dinner for him and I am sure he will want to return very soon!!
Close to our favorite and I am sure it will be added to our must dine

There's no better fried chicken than that at Husk. The cheeseburger is also great and my husband and I split a salad that was fresh and seasonal. Overall, another great lunch at Husk. Highly recommend.

Place and service was nice. Split on the taste of the food. For the appetizer, the was amazing. The pork with the Napa Cabbage, Carrots and Chilly was good but not amazing since the pork was not as tender. The chicken and dumplings dish was good. The chicken was very tender, but it lacked a little bit of taste. The cornbread on the side and the rolls were really good, specially with the pork fat butter. Will definitely to comeback to at least try the other dishes.

It was fine. Nothing particularly great about any of the dishes we ordered. The fried chicken skins didn’t taste like much and were made soggy by the so-so pimento “ranch” – definitely order the sauce on the side. The catfish was well-prepared but the veggies with it were drowning in sauce. The pork chop was good but the side vegetables were, again, overwhelmed by 1-2 flavors rather than letting the vegetables shine. And the cornbread tasted too smoky to enjoy. The rolls they brought out before dinner, though? GLORIOUS. BEST PART OF THE MEAL. I would sit through this otherwise okay meal all over again for those incredible rolls.

I made the res for Husk through Open Table some time ago when I knew we were going to Charleston. My hub and I said that the food was most unusual and very tasty. The flavors were complex and delicious. I stuck with the appetizers and my husband had the oysters and the trout. ALL DELICIOUS. We are savory people, so did not try the desserts. Enjoyed every bite!

It used to be one of our favorite Charleston restaurants. Disappointed we had a reservation but still waited 30 min as walk ins who were on wait list were seated. When I finally asked about our table I was twice told it was being set. 20 min later still not seated.

The food was fine - I had shrimp and grits. Grits were lumpy and cold. My son had a version of a cuban - huge roll without a lot of filling.
