About Husk - Charleston

Centrally located in historic downtown Charleston, Husk transforms the essence of Southern food.Led by Chef/Partner Sean Brock and Executive Chef Travis Grimes the kitchen reinterprets the bounty of the surrounding area, exploring an ingredient-driven cuisine that begins in the rediscovery of heirloom products and redefines what it means to cook and eat in Charleston. At Husk, there are some rules about what can go on the plate – if it doesn’t come from the South, it’s not coming through the door. The restaurant is as casual as it is chic, evoking a way of life centered on seasonality and the grand traditions of Charleston life. It is a neighborhood gathering place for friends, and a destination dining spot for travelers, with a little bite of the South for everyone’s palates.

Hands down one of the best dining experiences ever. True southern experience with a 'New American' twist.

Service and Ambiance are excellent. The food is very good, but not great. Everyone's tastes are different but this fell just short on the food end. Wine list is a bit limited, but very fairly priced and not intimidating.

This was our first visit to this well known and respected restaurant. The chef did not disappoint. The food was creative and delicious and the service excellent. Don’t miss ordering the corn bread for the table, it’s the best I’ve ever had. The room ambience was mediocre with basic tables void of tbleclothes but apart from that, we had a five star dinner.

Here is what you need to know (if available): Fried Chicken skins with pimento cheese (appetizer) ham and biscuits (appetizer), and sweet potato fritters(dessert). The end.

From the moment we entered Husk we knew we were going to have a wonderful evening. The restaurant is beautiful and we were warmly welcomed. The menu was full of fresh offerings. We shared an appetizer of roasted oysters that were amazing. I had steak, cooked perfectly rare and my husband had the duck- so tender and delicious.

Husk is everything you want in a restaurant. You feel the charm of the space before you even enter the building. The staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about every item on the menu. The ingredients are all fresh and sourced from the south- which is stated on the the description of each dish. Everything that was brought to our table was bursting with flavor- even the butter. Looking forward to going back next time we’re in town.

Husk is a good restaurant, but in the city of Charleston you can get great for cheaper. I would pick Rue de Jean, Cannon Green, Eli’s Table, and others over Husk, even if they were the same price.

Treated ourselves to brunch at Husk. Delicious - and the upstairs was cozy. Everything on the menu was unique and loved the starters and entrees we ordered. We will be going back for sure.

Very nice setting, excellent service, food was a mixed bag. Pork belly wraps were ok but lacked any special qualities. Shrimp and grits was very good. Cornbread was not to our liking...heavy, greasy, overwhelmingly smokey, no real corn taste, not improved much by the honey and pork fat infused butter. Fried chicken was very crisp outside, but coating was tasteless and chicken was seriously undercooked. It was taken off the bill. Vegetables served with the chicken were greasy and smokey and, for both of us, unpalatable. However two local people at a nearby table had the same chicken and veggies and ate all of the veggies. So I think what we took away from eating here is that we didn’t really know much about the low country flavor profile, despite having southern roots ourselves. Now that we know it a bit better we won’t seek it out again.

Grouper, Catfish, and Duck were all local, fresh, and delectable. The cheese perogies were like buttery marshmallows. Each dish was plated and served with care. In the main house, we started our dinner with hand crafted southern style drinks (try Autumn Dream with Bourbon, cider, and house made shrubs) but chose to close the evening with after dinner drinks (try Dragoon's Punch with the perfect sphere ice cube) and dessert at Husk's bar in the adjacent structure. Very cozy and dark. Imagine dark wooden beams, old brick walls with a deep southern historic feel. Whether you travel to Charleston (as we did from Virginia) or are a local South Carolinian, Husk provides the cozy setting and luscious southern dishes for you to relax with friends and family.

My wife and I promised ourselves a honeymoon dinner at Husk immediately after we were engaged. This meal delivered beyond our expectations. Sommelier recommended wines at the table, server was attentive and friendly, and the overall experience left us full and wowed.

First time at Husk. Having read about Husk multiple times over the past several years, we wanted to give it a try. They will be opening another venue closer to us in Savannah. Food was excellent although portions were on the small size. Wine list was extensive and expensive. Only 3 Chardonnays offered by the bottle though. The least expensive being $75.00. It was, however, very good. Service was excellent. Would recommend Husk for a very special occasion.

I had heard great things about Husk and was excited to eat there on my trip to Charleston. My wife and I found the food very good but were surprised that they couldn’t accommodate a simple request. My wife didn’t like a particular vegetable that came with her dish and asked if she could substitute another vegetable. You would have thought she asked for something outlandish or difficult to do, but it was simply to substitute broccoli for artichokes. For that reason alone I would not go back.

We loved our Sunday brunch at Husk. Our waiter provided great service and advice. The fritters with apple cider caramel were divine. The descriptions of the dishes seem simple, but the flavors are quite complex. Kudos to the brunch chef! The selection of non alcoholic drinks is great.
