About Husk - Charleston

Centrally located in historic downtown Charleston, Husk transforms the essence of Southern food.Led by Chef/Partner Sean Brock and Executive Chef Travis Grimes the kitchen reinterprets the bounty of the surrounding area, exploring an ingredient-driven cuisine that begins in the rediscovery of heirloom products and redefines what it means to cook and eat in Charleston. At Husk, there are some rules about what can go on the plate – if it doesn’t come from the South, it’s not coming through the door. The restaurant is as casual as it is chic, evoking a way of life centered on seasonality and the grand traditions of Charleston life. It is a neighborhood gathering place for friends, and a destination dining spot for travelers, with a little bite of the South for everyone’s palates.

Husk had been highly recommend to us and we came in with high expectations. Unfortunately, the expectations were not met. We ordered oysters, a pork dish, and confit duck leg. The oysters were okay but didn't have the saltiness you would expect. My duck was fantastic, I would order that again in a heartbeat. My husband's pork dish was awful. It was bland with murky flavors.

The biggest disappointment was the service. We were extremely rushed by the waitress. We had barely sat down when she wanted to know what we wanted from the bar. The rest of the meal followed suit. She just seemed very annoyed to be serving us. Everywhere else we went in Charleston had amazing service, so the service here stuck out as particularly bad. Hope we caught them on an off day. If my duck was any indication of what the experience could be, it's a shame that we had the experience we did.

There's no better fried chicken than that at Husk. The cheeseburger is also great and my husband and I split a salad that was fresh and seasonal. Overall, another great lunch at Husk. Highly recommend.

Place and service was nice. Split on the taste of the food. For the appetizer, the was amazing. The pork with the Napa Cabbage, Carrots and Chilly was good but not amazing since the pork was not as tender. The chicken and dumplings dish was good. The chicken was very tender, but it lacked a little bit of taste. The cornbread on the side and the rolls were really good, specially with the pork fat butter. Will definitely to comeback to at least try the other dishes.

Our waitress was knowledgeable, helpful, and made great recommendations. The bourbon list rivals the best in Charleston. The food was fantastic, dynamic and reasonably priced. Will definitely be returning.

It was fine. Nothing particularly great about any of the dishes we ordered. The fried chicken skins didn’t taste like much and were made soggy by the so-so pimento “ranch” – definitely order the sauce on the side. The catfish was well-prepared but the veggies with it were drowning in sauce. The pork chop was good but the side vegetables were, again, overwhelmed by 1-2 flavors rather than letting the vegetables shine. And the cornbread tasted too smoky to enjoy. The rolls they brought out before dinner, though? GLORIOUS. BEST PART OF THE MEAL. I would sit through this otherwise okay meal all over again for those incredible rolls.

Perfect anniversary dinner. Incredible flavors from drinks to appetizers to mains to dessert. Special touches abound for our special day as well. Without a doubt, Husk continues to be our number one choice in Charleston SC...from two foodies!

I made the res for Husk through Open Table some time ago when I knew we were going to Charleston. My hub and I said that the food was most unusual and very tasty. The flavors were complex and delicious. I stuck with the appetizers and my husband had the oysters and the trout. ALL DELICIOUS. We are savory people, so did not try the desserts. Enjoyed every bite!

It used to be one of our favorite Charleston restaurants. Disappointed we had a reservation but still waited 30 min as walk ins who were on wait list were seated. When I finally asked about our table I was twice told it was being set. 20 min later still not seated.

The food was fine - I had shrimp and grits. Grits were lumpy and cold. My son had a version of a cuban - huge roll without a lot of filling.

One of my favorite meals in Charleston. This restaurant deserves the hype it receives. The flavors are spot on and the presentations add to the experience. The pig ear lettuce wraps, pork belly, and shrimp and grits all delivered. I would absolutely go back. If you are vacationing make your reservation in advance because this place fills up quick.

It's our third time at Husk - when friends come from out of town, they want to go there. It doesn't live up to the hype. The food is short of being exceptional and there are too many exceptional meals to be had around Charleston to settle or pay that price tag. Go to the Bar at Husk and have some outstanding cocktails and an incredible burger. You and your wallet will thank me.

I cannot add much to the many, many 5 star reviews, but I highly suggest using Open Table or calling well in advance to ensure a table. Plus, be sure to have everyone at the table order a different item, so as to be able to try as wide as selection as possible!

Celebrating a birthday at Husk with visitors from out of town was made very special by exceptional wait staff. And the food was as good as expected, having wanted to dine here for some time. Four diners shared appetizers with the oysters as a stand out and then our meals were all really great, all with a different twist on a standard. We will be back!
