Great food and service!
We had a great time celebrating my birthday. This was my first time at Husk and it did not disappoint. The food, service and ambiance was top notch. I can not say enough nice things about our server. He was attentive, knowledgeable and personable. I would say the best service I have ever gotten. I can not wait until I get to return to Charleston to visit again.
It was an off night. What I liked I loved. The drinks, bread main meals of duck and port were delicious. The server was good. There were vents in the wall blowing cold air on our legs but we didn’t get another table so we put the menus over the wall vents. What I didn’t like were the sides. There were multiple attempts to make our cornbread so after 2 unsuccessful attempts they took it off the menu. The meat dumplings in the main meal were undercooked. Overall it was tasty the undercooked items were very disappointing.
I ordered with steak strip which was somewhat tough. Vegetables were very good. Desserts were good. Cornbread disappointed. Atmosphere was very pleasant. Service was good. I may try again when in Charleston.
The Husk was awesome. I highly recommend to restaurant to anyone visiting Charleston. The staff was extraordinary and so was the food.
Bad slow service
Everyone was so nice and the food was amazing. My daughter and I hung out in the front (we were early) and felt very welcome and comfortable. The front area has quite a bit of seating and the ambience is great. We sat upstairs, it was a bit chilly, music was awesome (loud enough to dance in our seats but we could still talk quietly and hear one another). My daughter had the burger. I thought for sure she would finish it. I got the shrimp and grits. I did, in fact, demolish it. So stinkin good. Sent a picture of it to everyone I know.
I love that Husk changes their menu so that there’s variety! We ordered the Fried Quail, Sweet and Spicy Glazed Duck Leg, NC Chicken, Cornbread, and Oatmeal Pie. The food was AMAZING! My favorite was the fried quail with grits!
Wonderful dinner, wonderful service. Would have liked the chef to be more accommodating of our vegetarian guests. They refused to adapt any existing dish to make it vegetarian friendly which leads me to believe that the dishes were "pre-prepped." This brings the restaurant down 1 notch in my onion.
Great food & service
Fantastic food! Everything was super fresh and cooked to perfection! I highly recommend Husk!
Overall atmosphere was fantastic and our server was one of the best ever encountered. Food was spectacular with a couple of exceptions. Broccoli side dish was not cooked! ?? And my wife's duck leg dish came with undercooked ( almost raw!) veggies as well. That said - all other dishes with delicious, beautifully plated and served promptly. We would certainly recommend Husk to friends.
Unfortunately, the food was over-hyped and mediocre at best. Our party of three failed to finish any of our entrees. The starter of fresh vegetables and gnocchi were floating in sea of undefined sauce that resembled the taste and consistency of chicken pot pie. Not good. The quail starter was tough and overcooked. The catfish entree was the best of our three entrees, as the catfish was lightly coated in batter and tasted fresh. The heritage pork was simply dreadful with an overpowering taste of salt. So overpowering was the use of salt that two of the three diners became ill after eating. Simply inedible! The accompanying fingerling sweet potatoes for the Heritage pork were under cooked and hard. Overall, the experience was truly underwhelming for an overwhelming price. The service and ambiance were excellent.
We are visiting from New York and enjoyed birthday brunch for my husband today. The service, food and atmosphere was fantastic!
I've dined with Husk before at their Nashville location and the entire experience there was quite lovely. Unfortunately, not the case with this Charleston location. Beware other reviews that denote feeling rushed by the constant five minute check ins - it's not an exaggeration. My dining companion and I ordered multiple courses so the hovering wasn't warranted to speed up our decision making. I also have a medical condition that requires me to eat very slowly and refrain from eating and drinking past a certain amount together in one sitting. However, what truly made the evening horrendous was the server carding us and, upon seeing my birth date, exclaiming "You look really good for your age!" In addition to being highly inappropriate**, I was beyond flabbergasted - I just entered my early 30s - how weathered should I look? I won't be coming back here.
Try the quail appetizer, cornbreaded catfish, duck, apple crisp, chocolate cheese cake. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch ice cream was my childhood dream come true!
It may have been better before Sean Brock left. Our server was not helpful or good about checking in on us, and our food came out so fast we were in and out in about an hour. Not what you would expect from this type of restaurant. Plus half of our food came out cold to lukewarm at best.
The meal was awesome.
We'd been looking forward to going to Husk for a couple of weeks. We arrived a bit early and went to the bar for a drink -- love the different drinks on the menu! Very interesting mixes. Our server at the bar was attentive without being intrusive and let us know that our table was ready at the restaurant. However, when we went over, we were asked to wait while two other groups of diners were called from behind us and seated. We were seated downstairs and were greeted well. It was noisy, but a vivacious vibe. However, as our time went on, the room went from noisy to ear-piercing loud. We could barely hear each other speak. The waiter, while attentive, was a bit condescending, assuming that the female at the table deferred on the oysters because she didn't like them -- that wasn't the case. If you're an oyster lover, they were excellent. The catfish also was great but the red snapper, while done perfectly, had no seasoning at all. If it hadn't been for the inebriated/noisy four top to our right and a very loud four top behind us we might have enjoyed the meal more. To be clear, it wasn't just a vivacious Wednesday night, it was far too loud in the room we were in to truly enjoy the meal.
Great food! Our waiter, Randy, was the best. We shared a salad, quail, and cornbread. These 3 appetzers and sides were just about right for a meal.
Husk is Charleston. Husk is Low Country. Husk is superb. A friendly and knowledgeable server in the sun-lit dining room brought us superb dishes, the best fried chicken ever with sides of shishito peppers and discs of fingerling potatoes a true highlight. An apple crisp dessert in a hot skillet a close second. A great lunch.
Our waiter was very knowledgeable and the food was great!
Southern food with too many twists that didn’t work. Their cocktails get twisted too, don’t expect a cocktail you are used to tasting.
Unique menu. definitely worth trying lots of the different appetizers and entrées. Presentation was outstanding Lots of different flavors in the food. Definitely check out the bar. Ambience is unsurpassed as well as the historic value. Good craft beers. Would definitely return.
Ate upstairs, simple but good tables.
Waiter ask every 5 min if all was ok , please give me some peace and let me enjoy food and wine
Delicious meal and Great service.
Husk is ok not great but ok
We've waited a long time to get a reservation here. Since we only visit Charleston about three times a year, it was always hit and miss. We were able to get a table for lunch/brunch which limited our menu selection. The food was good overall. Lots of pride in the farm to table concept. The service was excellent. The ambiance was simple. Poodin's Porch is right next door and they are very similar in decor but worlds apart as far as food. This is not "soul food". It is ingredients that is intentionally selected and prepared depending on what's available from local farmers and providers. As such, the chef gets a chance to show off his culinary skills. Hence, the reason the menu changes daily. We had a charcuterie board, salad, smoked wings and an apple tart with ice cream for dessert. All were good. I'd go back and try the dinner menu next time. The fact that I would go back is a good sign.
We had the best experience with our family at Husk.
If you want authenticity, look elsewhere, perhaps next door.
The appetizers to start were even more impressive than the entrees. If you are to go, I would recommend sharing a few of the smaller plates because the main dishes did not wow as much in comparison. Best short ribs and grits I've ever had.
The food is amazing!!
Food was great and service was excellent
We have been wanting to try Husk for years and finally made it happen. Friends had told us it was overrated, but we found it to be appropriately rated! The meal was fabulous and their drink selection ginormous!! We were a party of three and had 5 appetizers, 3 entrees, and two desserts. We did it family style so really enjoyed sharing and tasting all the dishes. The cheese crackers with pimento cheese were a particular highlight!! Chris, our server, was also really good. He knew his stuff and helped us decide our choices. He was attentive but gave us our space as well. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would definitely go back.
We had a very enjoyable meal at Husk. The Duck entree was particularly good. Chris did and excellent job describing the menu and servicing us throughout the meal. We will return.
One of the best meals of my life! The food was imaginative, and perfect in every possible delicious way. We made reservations 3 months ago and the wait was SO worth it. The service was outstanding. The home provides perfect, uncrowded-feeling ambiance. I would come back to Charleston (we live almost 5 hours away just to eat here again!
Excellent food, good service. Went with kids and there are no kid's options, which was a bit of a bummer.
I really think the plate should have some sort of vegetable on it. We got burgers, but no lettuce or tomato.
We dined at Husk for Thanksgiving and they were serving a three course fixed menu for the evening with optional wine pairings. The service was outstanding but the food fell short on two of the entrees. My son and friend ordered the turkey with stuffing which they thoroughly enjoyed and I also thought was delicious. I ordered the pork chop which was below average and extremely fatty. My wife ordered the steak and it was tough, even though it was cooked medium rare. If I find myself in Charleston for Thanksgiving in the future I would look for different dining experience.
Had Thanksgiving Dinner special, service, food, ambiance were fantastic.
Price was a little high for a three course meal, however it was a holiday so cost was expected to be a little above average.
I would highly recommend this restaurant.
