Excellent all around. Very busy on Monday night in early October. Nice water view.
The food and the ambiance are fabulous! The Mediterranean seafood stew was out of this world.
Started with drinks at bar. Very relaxing and good way to start. Dinner was salads and soup. All good. Dinner was streak and fish dishes. Overall one of the best places to eat even though fish dishes were a touch on dry side but still tops in town!!!
Wine Spectator recommended...wonderful varied wine list and reasonably priced by the glass.
Starter for me was the perfectly prepared Oysters Rockerfeller paired with a glass of Decoy Meritage. My yellow tail tuna sandwich was quite tasty and prepared as ordered. Susan's Seared Ahi Tuna was excellent and served on the rare side as ordered; accompanied by sesame noodles and asparagus and paired with a Nieto Sentiner Malbec.
Service was attentive and entrees served with nice timing for a leisurely lunch on the road down the coast. A memorable "Hurricane' experience.
Quaint, cozy, nice view and most of all wonderful food. Had the Duck Confit, short ribs, and hubby had the filet. All of it was prepared perfectly with deep, delicious flavors. Good wine list. Will definitely return on next trip to the area.
Everything was better than expected, from the choices on the menu to the decorations, to the food, to the service (and the prices!). It was a delightful place to visit, and warrants a return.
Great place for a special celebration! Staff helped with perfect view and selection of champagne. Food was presented well and perfectly cooked.
In short, almost any seat provides a really scenic view. The food is the star here though. Dinner was a bit on the pricey end and worth every penny! My husband had the veal and I had the butternut squash ravioli. We both left raving about the food quality and just how much we enjoyed the meal. It was unforgettable and delectable. We will absolutely visit the Hurricane again in the future.
We ordered lobster and I asked for them to not dry out the legs, well they did it was the worst I've ever had. I come from Ct. And they know how to cook a lobster and so do I. Very disappointed for a state who the lobster is named after.
We have been dining at Hurricane's for years---and, by far, while the food is always VERY good, our waiter Saturday night was the best that we have ever had. He was really attentive and not in the least bit rushing us!
This made for an even more enjoyable dining experience than ever!
Good place, but touristy, located in the middle of the main Kennebunk tourist district. Food was a bit fancier and pricier than menu I found online, but ok. Fairly expensive but it is good, we went for dinner. Wife had swordfish, which I'd say was ok, had much better in many New England towns this trip. I had the seafood stew and it was really excellent, and that is what I would highly suggest if you go there. Their "novelty" cocktails are not good or accurate, the margarita with "fresh" lime certainly tasted like over-sweet pre-made mix to me. Overall I'd give the place a B+.
Fabulous tenderloin!!! The sauce makes the meal. A wonderful place for a special occasion
We have dined at Hurricane many times over the past 10 years and have always been pleased. However, while the food is excellent we were at a table that did not have enough room between the next table so every time a server went to and from the kitchen My chair was hit. In addition, our server was gruff and my food was cold. I understand this was a busy holiday weekend but when you are spending $80 per person I expect better service.
Our dinner at Hurricane was fantastic. I had the Halibut special, while my husband had the Seafood stew, which was honestly just a giant bowl of seafood. The restaurant gets crowded though, and the servers can struggle to keep up, but they are super friendly, so just be patient. We would definitely plan on going back.
Server was excellent. She picked up on my dietary needs quickly and informed me of certain dressings was made with raw eggs. I was very appreciative of her knowledge. Thank you.
Great menu excellent selection and the best desserts
The lobster stew was amazing. Would go back to the bar and order that again. I would not sit in dining room. It is noisy and tables are very close together. Our server was not good at all. Looks like she has been there years but she was not good.
Food was just fair.
Very nice restaurant. The view was beautiful! Service was great, very friendly staff. Soups were amazing!!! Best French onion soup I have ever had. Lobster chowder was also excellent. Entrees were decent but they did not compare to the soup/chowder. We ordered the halibut and the steak. For the price I was expecting it to be better, it was average.. nothing to rave about.Overall, we enjoyed it and would absolutely go back again.
Restaurant has a great location in downtown and is right on the water. the menu has a very good diverse selection for any palate. Service was very good and would certainly go back again, good choice.
Neither the food or the service met our expectations. Service was brusque and the lady was burned out with too many tables to service. Hard to believe they cannot make a tasty lobster roll--- very disappointing! The lobster Cobb salad was a bit better, but not great. We will not be back.
Beautiful spot on the water. Food was excellent!. Tables are a bit crowded.
We have dined here before. The food and service are always wonderful. We'll be back again.
All good except very slow service. Would give it another chance.
The village Kennebunkport struck us as a tourist trap that had lost its way- so that when we found our way to the Hurricane, we debated cancelling our reservation . I am very glad that we did not. The food was excellent, there was a good selection of wines, and the service was proficient and friendly. The vibe was more energetic New York than a low key sea-side resort, but the whole worked. I highly recommend the seafood stew- it was outstanding.
Hurricane restaurant in Kennebunkport has very nice food. I ordered an oysters Rockefeller appetizer. It consisted of 4 oysters that were baked in their shells with spinach and cheese. They were good, but they weren't outstanding. They could have been tastier. I don't think that the cheese was special enough. My husband enjoyed his Caesar salad, and my friends liked their house salads with field greens and pistachios. In fact, I chose to order the house salad for dessert! For our entrees, both my husband and my friend's husband ordered a pork chop and pork rib entree. They both enjoyed it, and I tried my husband's pork rib and thought that it was very tasty. I ordered swordfish. It was very good. My girlfriend ordered shrimp over pasta, and she was happy with her choice.
The menu has undergone a makeover and it is spectacular. We have always dined here when visiting Kennebunkport, but this was truly a remarkable meal from wine to the rack of lamb cooked perfectly, to dessert. 5 stars!
Waitress was great. Bread, salad and clam chowder all very good (salad greens a little limp). They have a boiled lobster on the menu and evidently it comes in only a 2lb. size. They should really offer a smaller size because 2lbs is more than a lot of people want and the smaller size lobsters taste better. Also, didn't like where we sat - booth in the back.
This is a wonderful dining experience. The food is excellent, the wait staff accommodating and the ambiance ideal. Great views of the water. A consistent great meal.
Thought that the noise level was very high. I would return when the tourist crowd subsides
Had dinner here with my wife. Everything was great; service, food, atmosphere. I would recommend.
Couldn't have been more delighted with lunch at Hurricane! Lovely setting near Kennebunkport's bridge (added fun of watching kayakers navigate the strong current!). Soups (lobster chowder and kale w/ spicy sausage) were a must, even on a warm summer day. Haddock tacos were luscious, along with perfectly prepared asparagus. Cured meat and cheese platter was an extraordinary lunch choice following the filling soup. Very thinly-sliced pastrami; salami; red dragon cheese (phenomenal!!); crisp, warm, herbed bread slices and exquisite toppings (mustard, fig, radish, etc.) - all combined for an engaging set of "construction" choices.
Excellent lobster chowder. Messed up on side order.
We spent one week in the area and we went twice at Hurricane. We really enjoyed the ambiance and the food. I especially loved the fettuccine with shrimps and roasted garlic. We will go again on our next trip to Kennebunkport.
Great menu selection and very large and tasty portions served here. Service was a bit spotty on a busy Sunday night.
I come to Hurricanes every time I am in Kennebunkport and have never been disappointed. Great food and service and nice ambiance.
I have dined here before and have always had a delightful dining experience each time. I had the Statler chicken accompanied by orzo pasta with cheese and summer vegetables. Well prepared and perfectly cooked. My date had the grilled swordfish and it was also perfectly cooked. Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and attentive. Nice view, beautiful sunset, ... it was wonderful.
An outdated menu and poor to mediocre execution put a damper on our splurge night out in Kennebunkport. Boring food, over cooked fish, slow service combined for what may be the worst dinner out ever. Ho hum Caesar salad, clams casino, and other fuddy duddy menu items harkened back 30 years. Our swordfish and halibut selections were so over cooked to be downright chewy. My dinner arrived after my husband was finished with his meal. Nice server (yet who didn't know the menu or ingredients well- a training issue) and our table had a good view. What a waste of a night out.
This place is in a great location on the river and has a good atmosphere, diverse menu, and good food. There are of course many good restaurants in and around town, but do add this place to your list! It got a bit noisy once the room filled up, but it was a good vacation-vibe fun kind of noisy. We would definitely go there again.
Enjoyed the view and the food was outstanding. My wife had a generous seafood stew and my shrimp scampi was perfect. Nice place for a special meal.
We live nearby and are so lucky to have such an excellent restaurant nearby. We ate in the restaurant but the bar menu is excellent as well.
