Feast on seasonal, creative American cuisine at Hunter's. Its rustic setting features exposed brick walls and offers a relaxing place to dine. Owner and chef Angelo Schifilliti opened Hunter's for guests to enjoy dishes created with locally sourced fresh ingredients. An appetizer of mussels with mustard greens, wild rice risotto or chicken liver and bacon mousse will delight the palate. Guests can dine on a main course of lamb ragu, stuffed pork chops and hanger steak. It also has a raw bar with fresh oysters and other fare.
Hunter's offers catering for receptions, business meetings and other private events. It provides brunch and has a happy hour.
Hunter’s in Cobble Hill is the no bullsh*t restaurant every neighborhood needs. No pretense, no attitude, just friendly people and a menu full of salads, pastas, burgers and standard meat and fish entrees designed to fill and satisfy.
Perfectly adequate neighborhood spot that is unfortunately going out of business.
The restaurant was surprisingly empty on a Friday night. The menu offers limited choices. Not sure I will go back.
We went to Hunter's for a friend's birthday and had a perfectly respectable meal, just nothing to get excited about. We ordered hamburgers and steaks medium rare and they all came out medium - juicy enough but not pink at all. On the plus side, service was excellent - attentive and very helpful - and the nutella bread pudding dessert was quite tasty. Drinks were also great. We didn't sit at the bar, but it looked very inviting.
I took my twin boys (11 years) for a belated Mother's Day dinner last week and could not have hoped for a more lovely evening!! It was my second trip to Hunter's, the first meal so delicious that I wanted to return with my boys even though one might not immediately think of it as a family place.
We arrive just after 6, before it became crowded. Our waiter, Ryan C, was wonderful: he was really patient in engaging my boys with their many questions about the menu, not talking down to them as so often happens. One asked for a menu of virgin cocktails, and while the restaurant does not offer one, Ryan and the bartender were great in making it happen. The food was also incredible, we even ordered extra to take home so we would have enough for another meal. It was a great evening, absolutely delicious food without any pretension or ridiculous prices.
Went for mother's day with my wife, parents and 12 week old. I had called in advance and they seemed pretty confident that bringing a stroller wouldn't be a problem, especially because we had a relatively early reservation (1130am). It was pretty close to empty when we got there but filled up quickly. Food was great, service was solid, would definitely go back. Ample room for the stroller.
Nothing bad about this place. Not complaining, i liked my food but don't feel the need to go back, and would recommend other places in the neighborhood before this one.
Great service - super friendly! And the food just happened to be great. I highly recommend the mac and cheese with truffle. The bartender, Derek was delightful and witty. Great happy hour value as well with $5 glasses of wine.
good food, good service. A bit loud but it's worth it
We were so pleasantly surprised by how wonderful Hunter's was! We went for dinner on a Tuesday and there were a few tables available. The vibe was relaxed and the service was great - the bartender was actually our waiter too, but he seemed to manage both jobs simultaneously just fine.
We had many cocktails that were great but really it was the food that was so excellent. For starters we shared the oysters (they were big and perfectly meaty!), the yummy cheese plate (cheese from Stinky's), and the delicious warm olives.
Then the entrees....I can't rave enough about the mussels. These mussels were plump and juicy and the sauce - which was miso based - was out of this world! Loaded with garlic slices, pieces of bread and spinach, I could eat this every night. My family also raved about the duck ragu pappardelle and the burger (ask for extra pickled onions). The sea bass was nice but had the least flavor of all the main dishes - it was served with asparagus and red quinoa.
We loved this restaurant and can't wait to come back!
Service, food, and ambiance SUUUUUUUUUCKED. WOULD NEVER EVER EVER GO BACK
We had a lovely night out at Hunter's- our server was very attentive and the manager even gave us a glass of wine on the house, because we had mentioned that it was our date night. Great staff all around and food was good too, especially the smores dessert!
Hunter's has been consistently good for the last years that we have been coming before our BAM shows. The service is friendly, helpful with menu requests and drink suggestions. The chef has decadent comfort figured out. We are always satisfied.
We wanted to celebrate a special occasion with our young daughter and decided to try Hunter's, which was relatively new to our neighborhood. We loved the ambiance, we had plenty of space at our table and around us (no listening to your neighbor's conversation), and enjoyed the music, even before we got any food.
And then the food came, and it was fantastic! I cannot recommend the kale salad enough. It is like no other kale salad you have ever had, the kale being slightly roasted and smokey. We also got the gnocci for our daughter (who loved it, but couldn't even finish the appetizer portion, because they are VERY generous); the totally addictive truffle fries; the steak tartare, which is under the "small plates" section but comes with four pieces of delicious toasted crusty bread and a big green salad, so basically feels like an entree; and the stuffed pork entree with brussel sprouts and sweet potato puree which was beyond flavorful.
Also tried a couple of their original cocktails--DELICIOUS. Our only regret is not having enough room for dessert. Our daughter made us promise we'll be returning soon and trying the Nutella bread pudding on the menu, which was calling her name. I can foresee Hunter's quickly becoming a family favorite.
I went on the VERY early side after seeing a movie at Cobble Hill Cinema. We just had burgers which were juicy and delicious and a bottle of Cab.
Friendly service nice place, a bit dark.
My wife and I ate on a Sunday night which was great becauee they have 50% off on bottles of wine. We split the beef tartar which was tasted phenomenal and was sizable for the two us. I ordered the grilled swordfish with some savory accoutrements while my wife had gnocchi with sweet potato, bacon, and goat cheese. Both were excellent. We finished by splitting ricotta fritters and dulce de leche. The waitress recommend both the appetizer and dessert and they were spot on. Great place that I recommend to anyone. I'll be eating there again soon!
Pre-Fix menu. Good food. Nice service. Very accommodating.
The only uncomfortable experience was when the waiter contact my breast with his arm when serving. After that I was very protective of myself. He might even didn't notice, accident or not it was still uncomfortable to me.
The rest of the party enjoyed the place and food. They served generous portion. So we brought some leftovers home.
We'd eaten here previously and had a good meal, so maybe this was just an off night. However, the service was scattered and slow, the mussels smelled horrible, and the food was underseasoned. They made a mistake on one of our dishes and offered to refire it, but it came back with several components missing.
Loved their brunch. We had bellinis and mimosas, which were very well made. The egg white omelet was fresh and flavorful. The eggs Benedict (with spinach instead of ham) was excellent. Service was thoughtful and attentive. The service and ambience were quite good as well! We will be back!
The food was bland and needed seasoning. Service was spotty and inattentive. We were hoping to have a romantic dinner, but the music blasting from the speakers, coupled with the noisy diners, made that impossible.
went amazing, dimly lit, attentive service and great vibes from the other guests. Would definitely recommend for special occasions. thanks :)
Came here last time I was in town and happy to have come again and invited some friends from the neighborhood that were impressed with my choice. The pork is prepared in a very special way and is worth trying - one of a kind. The kale salad also is an interesting invention.
Very nice staff. Friendly and attentive. Short but well thought out wine list. Great drinks too! We will be back
On a busy Friday evening the food irregular in quality and the staff seemed at times overwhelmed. For us the kale salad stole the show as always very good. The cod left much to be desired and the pork loin was a little dry. The food took a very long time to come out and only was served after we inquired. Seemed shortstaffed during a busy time.
There was no salt in any of our dishes which was disappointing given all the good reviews here
Was hopping and exciting and our server had a great energy. Loved the chef's salad, everything seemed very fresh and healthy and we really enjoyed the meal. Great wine list, we are visiting this weekend from san fran and they know their stuff wine-wise.
Staff was friendly enough but did not understand our requests fully. Wine selection was poor and not complete. Food was okay even though it was at market price.
Great food and service! Great neighborhood spot we will definitely be coming back to!
I brought my parents visiting from Charlotte since we were staying close by at the NU hotel and they were blown away. We all had the housemade pastas, the agnolotti was really special, get it! Thanks to our server Josh, everything was v nice.
Disappointed to say this was a really mediocre experience. Restaurant was packed (good for them) but even with a reservation, we were seated facing a wall (all three people in the group looking at wall, not each other). Food was really average (tiny portions of food that was sort of whatever). So loud. Like Saturday at the club loud. I really hope they step up their game.
I took some friends who just moved to the area here as its mine and my husbands fave place. We went for brunch. The service was Meh, they seemed to forget about us and basic needs Like silver ware. I ordered truffle fries for table and what came we're not so I sent them back. New ones came fresh and hot however the bottom of the barrel of fries didn't taste truffle like so I assume they popped some truffle fries on top the ones I sent back. My two friends ordered the chicken hash and they both said it didn't really have much flavor, my kale salad was delish, as is their Mexican Corn. I will go back but I'm really disappointed in yesterday's meal and service.
Everything was perfect - the service is super professional and friendly. Recommend to anyone lookin for a superior meal in this part of brooklyn. Thanks guys!
Excellent cocktails, exceptional service, nice menu selections,
too heavy on the salt.
I checked out Hunter's with some friends over the weekend. We made the reservation before realizing that the whole street had a street fair going on, which means that some of the employees at Hunters were selling drinks and some tacos at a stand outside the restaurant. Maybe this made them short staffed? I don't know.
- The staff were friendly
- Good for kids, as the menu items were locally sourced and very healthy. A few adorable kids were running around the restaurant. None were screaming or crying.
- When we arrived, there was no one to check us in for at least 5 minutes. The chef walked out and asked us how many people we were and told us we'd be seated shortly but then went outside to the stand (but I was grateful for the attention anyway at least)
- I spilled some milk on the table and wiped it with my cloth napkin but thankfully the server came by with a washcloth and finished cleaning it and took my wet cloth away. But...I never got a new napkin!
- I ordered the blood mary and realized too late that there were 2 sizes. The server didn't ask me what size I wanted and just brought me a Large.
- I had ordered a chicken hash, which is why I keep saying their food is super "healthy." Our dishes took a really long time to arrive, even the server went to go check on it. Then, my dish was mostly onions and nothing was "hashed." But everything was fresh and pretty good, despite the portion being a bit small and not very filling.
I'm tempted to give Hunter's another chance since there were other good-seeming things on the menu, but there are a lot of great places on Smith street so...we'll see.
fun lowkey place to meet up with friends. Nice cocktail/beverage selection, food portions are generous, I couldn't finish my delicious mac 'n cheese there was so much.
Hunter's needs polish. Cocktails were well crafted, but my "boba fett" spilled on table in delivery, and never got cleaned up until I asked. Waiter did not smile once throughout. Apps took a long time to arrive. Calamari salad had potential but missed the mark. Salad fork & knife were intentionally left on the table for dinner! Salmon entree was the star by far! Perfect. I'd try again.
The food here was really excellent but the decor is very bare bones - probably the look they were going for but all the wood makes the noise from other groups a bit louder.
Booked last minute in Open table with a party of 9. Didn't know what to expect. Put in parameters of close and not too expensive. We weren't sure what to expect but I highly recommend Hunters. Great cocktails, good food and top notch service. Everyone enjoyed their meal and prices were reasonable. Very nice love to enjoy an evening out! The burger is fantastic!
Happened upon Hunter's in need of dinner and so glad we did. After tasting the food, I'm surprised there was a table available for us. Don't miss trying the mussels. They had the best broth I've had in a long time, perhaps ever! Roasted kale dish was great, gnocchi was yummy. I'm not sure you can pick wrong here. Evening even better with our fabulous server, Kevin.
I came to HUNTERS twice in a timeframe of one month. The second time i came i brought more people with me. The food was DELICIOUS Fingerlicking good :). Between the two visits as a table we had the chickenleg hash, French toast, pancakes, yogurt, chicken salad sandwich, seasonal omelette and THE TRUFFLE FRIES. I will definitely be back, arrangements are already in motion. The service was excellent everyone was friendly and the ambiance was inviting.
We came here for our anniversary. Truffle Mac & Cheese was ridiculously amazing. LOVED it.
We ordered mussels for an appetizer - the broth was delicious!
And my drinks were made perfectly - absolutely delicious.
