We love this place normally. This time, we felt more rushed to eat and leave by the staff than ever. Apps came out within minutes. Entrees came while we were eating apps. They were clearing plates before we were finished. Kept asking us if we wanted the check. We just wanted a relaxing family dinner. I’ll definitely go back because the food and ambiance is fantastic. But the staff this night was not on their game.
I loved the feel of this place. Although it was our first visit it felt like home. The food was fun and there were many items to choose friend. The staff were super friendly and very very helpful. Everyone seemed knowledgeable about the restaurant and the menu. Visit this place soon!!!
Excellent all around place. Menu selection is quite extensive and so are their drinks at the bar.
We went to Hunter's Head Tavern to celebrate a friend's birthday in a relaxed, cozy environment that brings you back in time. I have been there before, which is why I returned. I love the pub experience with thick wooden tables, a fire place, ordering our food at the bar, having wonderful selections of both traditional pub grub and more sophisticated dishes made with attention to fresh, local ingredients. The lemon cheesecake with fresh berry coulis was divine! The wait staff is very professional and attentive, the environment is friendly and convivial and they have outdoor seating on their patio. I will keep returning to Hunter's Head Tavern.
Great ambiance. Good food but small portions and some items had no seasoning whatsoever. Service left something to be desired.
Genuinely old and charmingly appointed rooms, beautiful walled garden for outdoor dining, superb cuisine consisting of updated and expanded pub fare, friendly, attentive service. Harp beer on tap! Set in the gorgeous Virginia countryside within an hour of the metropolis.
Beautiful Tavern in picturesque setting
Great service (Jackson shout out) and friendly staff
We will be back - 90 minute drive through lovely countryside
The staff was rude, unhelpful, and the ordering process is very odd. There are much places to go in the Middleburg area with better service. It was a big disappointment.
Over priced, under seasoned food that you have to stand in line to order. If you want to stand in line, go to McDonald’s.
A group of friends toured England a couple of years ago and when I read a nice review of your restaurant I called 4 of my friends who live in the area about going and we knew it would be fun to experience the English atmosphere and the sticky toffee pudding! It brought back memories that we shared at lunch. Food was excellent, service was great even tho they were very busy.
Hostess was rude when seating and taking order. Food and waitstaff were great.
The summer menu featuring heirloom tomatoes was delicious.
Great service and wonderful food. Glad to see more vegetarian dishes on the menu. We sat on the patio, lovely ambiance and not noisy.
We had a lovely time as always. The food is always amazing. Best chicken pot pie ever and desserts are awesome! We loved the outside seating and it is a beautiful setting when the weather is nice like it was Thursday night!
The food was great and the service outstanding. It was a wonderful experience for a friend's birthday. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our group of friends get together every month for a meal. We often meet at Hunter’s Head because of the great food.
Great horse-country atmosphere combine with locally sourced comfort food.
Great old place, nice ambience and good food. Great setting for friends or romantic dinner.
Service was good. Most of food was good except for my Dry Aged Ribeye ($36) which was tough, so tough that I, at first, thought the steak knife was dull. I should have sent it back but didn't want to delay the festivities while waiting for another steak. For quite a number of years I've been very pleased with the Dry Aged Ribeye but this year was a disappointment. Without mentioning my displeasure with the steak, the restaurant didn't charge us for the 4 deserts we ordered, which was classy. I will continue to return to Hunters Head, but may order the pub fare as everybody really enjoyed it. I recommend this restaurant to all people interested in good food, wine and beer.
Maybe it was a bad day, been here before and food has been much better. Was not impressed with the pork chop. Also sit outside during the summer. Restaurant was hot and muggy.
The best. A lot of history. Should be listed in AAA.
The chopped kale was woody to the point of non-chewable. All other food was good.
Hunter's Head never disappoints! The ambience and service was great, and the food was yummy!
I have eaten here twice for lunch. I find the food perfectly fine and the service is adequate after you get accustomed to placing your order as you enter from the menu board. It's not that this is all that unusual in a fast food restaurant but it is unexpected in an upscale location and it makes it extremely difficult to introduce newbies to the menu board without causing a people jam of sorts.
If you come here for the first time definitely look over the website and make sure your guests look it over when possible.
Flies: They were everywhere inside. It was very distracting and seemed as if they take this for granted.
Patio: Charming in nice weather. Definitely bring deep woods off.
Lunch with no cocktails and two desserts equaled about $85 with tip.
Brunch with the family on Sunday. I made a reservation for 4 but we had 6. They were gracious to accommodate. Had the Blueberry pancakes, side of breakfast sausage and a sweet potato biscuit. All the food was top notch, but only came with two pancakes, so slightly disappointing. Biscuit was tasty as was the sausage. Home fries were also served, they were fine. Nothing too exciting about that.
Would recommend to others.
Great ambience and nice courtyard seating in a historic setting. Food is ok. The crab cake contained a lot of bread filler, the Cobb salad was an extremely large portion of food with brand chicken. Service is slow, price is hefty for pub food, but it is easy to over look due to the fun atmosphere.
Great food and great service. Would definitely go back!
I've been to Hunter's Head Tavern for dinner a few times, brunch once, and afternoon tea for my mother's birthday. Their food is delicious and their staff is beyond helpful and attentive. I am particularly impressed by the spread for their afternoon tea. Very fun and authentic for any foodie to enjoy!
We love this place. Great food locally sourced expertly prepared. Eat here often
Love the patio and great service.
The chilled carrot soup was yummy.
I have been to Hunters Head many times & it is truly one of my favorite places to dine, which is so hard for me to write this review. I took some friends for their Advertised Afternoon Tea. Made a reservation with Open Table AND called to confirm. Upon our arrival, there was no Afternoon tea available. The wait staff was unprepared, snarky, & unapologetic. We stayed nonetheless & had lunch, the food is always good. However, various mistakes were made on the check, overcharged for items we did not request. All in all a mess, they aren’t prepared for Afternoon Tea. Will still return as we have never encountered this situation in the many times we have frequented. The manager was courteous & attentive.
Do not go for Afternoon Tea. Do go for lunch, brunch & dinner.
Hunters Head Tavern is one of our favorites. We so enjoy the food , the ambiance, and the atmosphere. A great place🌝
Great stop for lunch after winery visit.
Great outdoor dining experience. Terrific service. Excellent food.
Best place for victuals and libations. The veggie garden quiche with salad is absolutely scrumptious. Love their golden balsamic vinaigrette. Just to switch things up, we ordered the quiche and the heirloom tomato, bacon and pimento cheese sandwich with a side order of the mushy peas. It was a great meal and we sat outside under the trees in the shade. We had so much food, but could not resist the complimentary bread and butter. Beyond! Perfect place for lunch or dinner in the country! Honestly one of the best meals I’ve had in awhile. Staff are lovely, attentive and helpful.
I would not recommend the Tri Tip Steak it was very tough. It was semi-flavorful from the marinade but very hard to chew. Not worth the money. I've had better at diners. My wife had the shrimp over the vegetable pasta and it was much better.
I’ve always loved this venue but the food has been less than stellar recently. Stick to burger and salad.
Great service. Rather noisy especially if you’re sitting inside near kitchen. Limited healthy menu choices but doable. Salad with salmon was mediocre— salmon was over cooked. Gazpacho was yummy. The food ordering process is a bit weird: 1) stand at door to review menu, (2) decide in or outside table, (3) go to window at bar to order food, (3) sit and then waitress takes over with serving bread, food, and checking on you throughout. Waitress was so good. I wondered why they don’t just start out with them taking your order in first place. We’ll be going again....
My wife and I stop here every chance we get. We made reservations and were looking forward to sitting outside in the garden. To our surprise when we got there you had to go on a list to sit outside even though you had a reservation. We were sat inside it was very noisy and the table was too small for all the dishes. We were sat down after ordering at the bar at 7:30, the appetizer came out at 7:40 and then the main meal at 7:45 you can imagine how crowed the table was. The food was good but with the claustrophobic and noisy atmosphere we did not want to stay any longer than we had to. If we cannot eat outside we will be eating somewhere
By the way there were plenty of tables open outside when we came and when we left.
Hunter's Head never disappoints. Good, fresh food, and great surroundings make a it wonderful destination. The patio is lovely during nice weather and the dining rooms are charming for the other days.
