Enjoyed a cozy and delicious lunch with my family. The pub was decorated beautifully and the staff were cheery and on top of every order. Wonderful visit would definitely recommend to anyone in or visiting Hunt Country.

Our vegetarian was pleasantly surprised by the selections, a Guinness Beef Stew was perfect for the snowy day.

As always good food in a relaxed setting
The chicken fried steak with cream gravy is amazing if not the healthiest dish on the planet

Fun family lunch after annual Virginia outing and walk over Thanksgiving. Gives me a sense of home. Only things missing - possibility of ordering drink at the bar and bags of crisps.

While we have dined at Hunter's Head many times, this was the first Thanksgiving buffet. The food was fabulous -- local seasonal ingredients cooked with just the right sophistication without being ridiculous (you know what I'm talkin' about), solicitous wait staff that doesn't hover, rustic tavern atmospher, country casual dress, nice mixture of clientele. Well, it's over the river and through the woods back to Hunter's Head for us next year!

My husband and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, served buffet style, at Hunters Head Tavern in Upperville, VA. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Wait staff brought drinks and soup immediately and cleared plates quickly. Most of the food is grown and raised locally, and there were many, many dishes to enjoy. We’ve eaten at Hunters Head many times, but this was our first Thanksgiving there. We would happily return for another holiday meal. The drive to Upperville is especially scenic in the fall.

We often celebrate Thanksgiving @ Hunters' Head. Great food, hospitality, ambience...and no dishes! They need to improve 2 things, however. The buffet line is a traffic jam & perhaps using the tented area outdoors would work better. We'd never had a table upstairs & found it uncomfortably hot. Other than that we'd probably return.

We had to place our order before we sat down. Felt a little pressured. However a party of 8 sat by us, and the waitress took their order. I ordered the Three Cheese Butternut Squash Ravioli. The squash was not cooked, it was hard. I told the waitress, and she asked me if I would like something else. I ordered the chicken fried steak, but it was not tender at all. They did end up taking both off our bill, but I would not recommend the restaurant to anyone.

We had a very nice family meal with 2 small children on a quiet weekday night. The tavern menu and drink selection had options the were attractive to all. The food was well prepared and promptly served in an authentic tavern atmosphere.

Love the place and the back roads trip to it. The worst thing I can think of to say was the butter was a little hard for spreading on our fresh bread. The pumpkin drink I had was strong and the beef stroganoff was just right in tenderness and the Caesar was perfectly dressed. So sorry that I didn't have room for dessert.

Second visit and still very impressed. Honestly, and I eat in many restaurants of all types, some of the best prepared and best tasting authenticly genuine meal offerings that you will find anywhere.

"Pubby" feel to the restaurant but I was disappointed with the fish and chips ---- very small pieces of fish and loads of chips - could have had another piece of fish and less chips. Waitress was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere pleasant. We had a table for two and it was quite cramped, chairs a little uncomfortable for lengthy seating. Although we only had a soft drink with dinner and shared a dessert, the $60 tab was high for the quality/quantity.

I absolutely LOVE Hunter's Head! I had a business meal, and wanted an atmosphere where we could easily speak and hear one another. We were seated near the hearth with a warm, crackling fire. The atmosphere was perfect, the food was outstanding, and the service was as warm and congenial as the hearth.

Quality of food vs. value was lacking compared to our past visits.

My wife usually orders bangers and mash but the quality of the meat as well as the side dish was far inferior to our earlier visits. The jumbo shrimp with angel hair pasta was only average and didn't merit paying $24. Five shrimp, come on.

We just returned from Charleston, SC where we ate some great meals at much less expense. Spending this amount of cash for food less delicious than we prepare at home every day ensures that we won't return for anything other than drinking their always excellent cold draft beer on the patio.

Great ambience - feels like an old English tavern. The food is basically English pub fare, although some of the entrees are a little fancier. But you will probably not find more authentic traditional pub fare anywhere in the area.

A fun place to have a meal after visiting nearby wineries. The scenery and rolling hills make it a pleasant drive. The food is always good but the fish was fried a bit too long giving it a blackened crust.

We have been going to this restaurant for 12 years. The prices have gone up the portions smaller and the quality of the food has gone down. My husband ordered the steak sandwich on sourdough bread. The steak was gristly And the red peppers were cut up so small the sandwich fell apart. I had the shrimp and angel hair pasta. The dish was bland tasting. One item that the restaurant excels at is the sourdough bread which they make on site. We will not go back to the restaurant for a long long time if at all.

I booked this for my birthday, two days prior to actually eating at this restaurant and received confirmation via OpenTable. We drove over an hour to be told that they didn't have our reservations but we could sit in the pub which was terrible or outside, which was cold out that night. We showed the lady who worked the door, my email that I had a confirmation for reservations but her records didn't show that. We ate in the pub which was overlite with yellow lighting which made for not a romantic night.

Had I have known that you had to order your food at an open window I would have never gone to this restaurant. Then the lady at the open window hands you a wooden spoon with a number on it and a waitress will bring you your food. Not the romantic birthday dinner I had expected. Both my husband and I ordered from the "farm to table" menu and we both got the trout meuniere. It was extremely dry and so fishy I couldn't eat it, the corn was right out of a can. This has to be the worse food I've ever eaten and to drive an hour to eat a horrible dinner was not what I had expected for my birthday. We couldn't wait to get out of this place.

On my drive home I saw an email from OpenTable stating the restaurant had canceled our reservations 35 minutes prior to us showing up for our 6:30 reservation. When I called the restaurant to complain to the manager he was apologetic and offered us a free meal. I declined and told him the meal we had was the worse we have ever eaten. I was not interested in driving an hour to eat another terrible "free" meal.

Don't waste your time with this place.

This is a fun riff on the pub scene--a blend of English and American colonial. It is casual with some self service. They used to do a Sunday night authentic roast beef and Yorkshire pudding special dinner, which I missed this past Sunday because it was off the menu. Bring it back please! Still most enjoyable and worth the drive.

The food was quite good. My friend wanted to go there to celebrate her 70th birthday. I a from Florida and came up to celebrate with her. She had been talking about the bread and told me how amazing it was.

And, on Sat. when we went, they were out of the bread that they usually have. So incredibly disappointing. The servers were not as attentive as I thought they should have been for a place of that quality.

Don't think I would go out of my way to go back there.

A great little restaurant in a bucolic country setting. The food is locally sourced, meaning you'll rarely eat the same side dishes or main courses if you order off the wider menu, but that's a good thing. It also means you have to be willing to eat what is in season. If you are so willing, you will be richly rewarded with a wonderful meal made from local meats and fresh, seasonal produce. Highly recommended.

The wait/bar staff that took our order was not personable. She never smiled and made us feel awkward for being there. It was our 3rd visit to this restaurant in the last 2 weeks, just having moved into the area. The server within the restaurant, a 6'4 guy, made up for the poor service upon entering. He was amazing and made us feel at home. We will definitely return to Hunters Head Tavern, but will have to "get past" the poor mannerisms of the front wait staff.
