We came at 6pm on Mother's Day and had a quiet, peaceful delicious dinner (highly recommend the Shepherd's Pie!). Service was inobtrusive, but there if you needed them. Always love this place.
Second time eating at Hunter's Head. The first time we went we loved it. Second time was just ok. We ordered 3 appetizers and a sandwhich and asked that they bring two of the apps out first. They brought out everything together. Our waitress did not ask if we wanted our water refilled. Honestly she seemed kind of dumb. Brussel sprouts and arancini were good but you only got 2 arancini for $13. French dip was mediocre for the price ($22). Meat was kind of tough. Turkey wing weren't good either. Cocktails were good. I would still come back as the ambiance is nice.
Always a favorite spot. Due to Covid, it isn’t the same atmosphere yet, but still a delight.
The Spring Vegetable and Chicken Cassoulet is not a cassoulet, this dish is very poorly constructed and falsely advertised. I was very unhappy with the dish for $21, exremely overpriced, does not resemble the advertised picture on the website.
The rest of the food was bland, this is our third time at the establishment and I am not sure we are coming back.
Nice ambiance out on the patio. Servers were attentive. The food came out very quickly, indicating it had been previously cooked and simply warmed up when we ordered. We went to this restaurant hoping for some authentic British pub fare, but we were disappointed. For example, the mushy peas were simply smashed peas. The dish was not made with the type of pea used in the English version, and thus lacked the flavor. Similarly, the Shepherd's pie was very Americanized.
Traditional pub with surprisingly solid pub frequent flyers. Great service with quaint surroundings.
Food and service are consistently very good. Always a favorite destination for us to drive the 60+ miles to get there from Alexandria. Miss the old ordering pub style format but understand the inevitable change.
Happy to return to Hunter’s Head after a long pandemic break.
We had a family dinner for the first time since Covid struck and the meal was delicious and the service terrific
My french fries were mush and not fresh. My cod seemed undercooked
I said something to waitress and she just said they are cut fresh daily.
Our cocktails were wonderful.
Good burger and good fish and chips. Enormous portions.
Nice staff! Helpful!
Hunters head always delivers a tasty meal with no fuss and very competent and pleasant service.
2of the 4 people had steak and both pieces of meat were very tough, hard to cut and hard to chew, not much flavor.
2 of us enjoyed our meal
The maintaining of Covid restrictions was impressive. The food was good and our waitress was great.
Always exceptional food and ambience to enjoy a leisurely Sunday brunch out in the Virginia country side.
I enjoy that Hunter's Head takes serious the social distancing and reservations.
My only comment was that we seemed to have been rushed by our server.
We ended up eating here for dinner on a whim. We were staying in Paris, VA overnight, and if you're familiar with the area, you know that the dining options are fairly limited. I booked a reservation, and we were promptly seated outside. They have a tent setup in their courtyard with outdoor lighting, which definitely enhances the ambiance. We were greeted promptly, ordered drinks, and also ordered appetizers. I was surprised when my salad was served before I got my beer, but it looked good and tasted good so no complaints! My wife got the Shepherd's Pie, and I got the Pot Roast as entrees. Both dishes were enormous; we could have easily split either one. If we had a fridge in our room, we would have brought home leftovers, but sadly we didn't. Although we were full, we wanted to try the sticky toffee pudding, which we ordered to-go. We ate it a couple hours later, and it was still delicious.
I'd definitely recommend this place, and we plan to return next time in the area. If you do decide to eat here, be sure to bring your appetite!
Wonderful food and service!!! Ambiance was excellent!
Great food as always and impeccable service as expected! Thanks so much for making our time at Hunter’s Head so special!
Our kids were in town.
Our food was amazing and hot! The service was amazing and we loved the room we were seated in. We started the evening outdoors and it was a little too chilly. We moved inside and loved the old tavern. It was so cozy and warm and felt like we were at an old friends home. Such a beautiful old building. I look forward to returning soon!
Went at 330pm, so completely understand this is between menus and shifts. However, we have enjoyed the English Pub environment and food in the past, and we optimistic of it again. Unfortunately, when we tried to order a Guinness on tap and a Pimm’s Cup we were told Guinness only in a can, and didn’t have Pimm’s Cup.
The waitress then said, “people think we’re an English Pub, but we’re really not.” We should have left them, as that is why we went and why other people go - and how you market yourselves! That was ridiculous.
The waitress was clearly ready to leave. She rushed us through our ordering process by standing in front of us while we looked at the menu. No offer to “give us a minute to look over the menu” - a standard way to serve diners.
The food was good, but way over priced. My fish and chips were great, but a pub menu portion - not $20 worth. The crispy risotto consisted of two golf ball sized croquettes and sauce - not $14 worth. My wife’s bangers and mash was okay - nothing remarkable. Not $21 worth.
As we were finishing, a replacement waiter arrived. He was super polite, friendly and attentive. This is worth mentioning.
We walked away with an $81 bill (I still tipped well) and a feeling of being ripped off as we were told you are not an English pub, the service was mediocre and inconsistent, and the food was way overpriced.
We do not plan to return.
Lovely ambiance .........healthy, delicious food.
It’s always a lovely venue in the piedmont of Virginia, but the food was only mediocre and overpriced for the value. Also, the outdoor tent area on the patio was very noisy. You could hear the conversations on the other side of the patio like they were right next to you.
The staff was friendly & efficient. The food was outstanding. Nicely plated & delicious. Can't wait to go back!
Wonderful place to meet friends for an outdoor lunch.
We decided to have St Patrick's day dinner here. We were very impressed by the outstanding meal of corned beef and cabbage, with mashed potatoes and bread that the Chef had prepared. Perfect for St Pat's day!
Mediocre menu. Food over priced. Poor service. Confused waiter. Disappointing.
Outside tables are under a huge white tent which on the day we visited was a shame as it was a beautiful day. We asked to be seated in one of the few tables out in the sun but we were told they weren’t available.
Prices seem more expensive than previous visits. Fish and chips were excellent but the burger at $18 plus extras at $2-2.50 was a bit too expensive. Quiche and salad at $20 was exorbitant. Please reconsider your prices.
We were there for my husband’s 80th birthday. We had requested outdoor seating but after dealing with a tree being cut down behind us we requested to be moved inside and they moved us immediately and the service was excellent! Our food was wonderful and we will return soon.
Immediate service, friendly & personable wait staff.
Loved the food and the ambiance. Been wanting to go for years and it made the perfect date afternoon!
Excellent service and food served outside - it was warm and pleasant!
No pressure and great service in a very quaint environment.
It’s always a treat to dine at HHT! Delicious food, cozy atmosphere and great service!
We hadn't been to Hunter's Head Tavern in a year, due to COVID. The place hasn't missed a beat since our last visit. Food and service were fantastic, the ambiance remains. Tables were properly spaced. We felt very safe and cozy.
Wonderful as always!
Great food, service, ambiance as always. There ids no other place in the area that has the charming “feel” of HH.
Always delightful. The bread is addictive... My pup loves the doggy dinners!
The "pet-friendly" outdoor, heated tent was fabulous! Our friends did not want to leave their new puppy at home alone, and Hunter's Head was one of the few places we could find that had a pet-friendly heated dining area. The food and service were also fabulous.
Really great staff!
