When we arrived, for lunch, we were told the lunch menu was not available, due to staffing issues. The dinner menu was the only option. Wish that could have been on the website as an advisory, a “what if”, if there would be a staffing shortage.
Food was very good, server was excellent, ambiance was great!
Wonderful ambiance, cozy atmosphere and exceptional food. The beef stew is to die for.
Wonderful experience. Carol was the most amazing waitress and our meals were fabulous!! The fire in the fireplace was a special touch. We will be back soon.
We had a great time . Delicious food and beautiful ambiance.
Fantastic food and service
Sandra took great care of us. The food and atmosphere never disappoint.
We have been doing our Anniversary dinner at Hunters Head since 2012 give or take a year or two somewhere else. We have come back on other occasions and have always enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant.
First time here and will be back! The food was amazing and service outstanding!
Food was spectacular, great service, very fast and fair prices.
Christmas Eve dinner at the Hunters Head is our tradition and we were very pleased as always the food is delicious the service is attentive and the ambiance is historic. This year they had an outdoor tent in the courtyard with heaters which proved to be toasty warm and very pleasant as well.
My husband and I had our Christmas Eve dinner here and it was truly a festive, cozy, perfect experience!
We loved it all, thank you for making our Christmas Eve so perfect!
Fantastic! The filet was done to perfection. The poached chicken was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The steamed pudding was beyond compare - perfect Christmas Eve dinner. Hunters Head will be our new Christmas Eve tradition!
Perfect spot for pub food on a cold winter night. The fireplace crackling nearby and the amazingly friendly staff were just added bonuses.
Great food professional staff and rustic atmosphere
Always enjoy having lunch here...such a beautiful setting and the food and service is consistently very good!
We had an amazing time, and recommend the spiced apple pie warm boozy cocktail!
Terrific meal in the perfect setting for a fall or winter day. Who doesn't love eating by the fire. Outstanding food
The Swedish meatballs were delicious, and the lingonberry jam was a perfect complement to it. However, I would’ve appreciated more balance.
My guest ordered the Guinness beef stew which he told me was delicious!
For dessert, I enjoyed a warm apple pie served à la mode. My guess had the double chocolate cake which he said hit the spot!
Excellent experience all around.
Very enjoyable @ Hunters Head Tavern. Everything was Great.
Service was wonderful.
Food was outstanding.
Can't wait to return.
Eating outside was very cold, but it was still nice to have dinner open air. The heaters helped a lot.
I love this place, especially the ambiance. It is most pleasurable in the Fall, when there is a fire going. Food is outstanding to say the least.
Loved the ambiance and service but food was not great. My fish smelled strongly of ammonia and my husband's beef stew was tasteless.
We LOVED it from beginning to end. And the fireplace was the ultimate!
First, I have enjoyed coming here for almost 20 years BUT Thanksgiving dinner last night was a disaster. Clearly, their everyday menu and service is doable for the staff BUT a special occasion is not in their wheelhouse. Especially an occasion where the check is over $350 for 3 people who barely ate any food.
Our special Thanksgiving dinner included a mushroom soup insufficiently heated, two pieces of Turkey that tasted more like ham, okay mashed potatoes, and. something unrecognised as a stuffing along with a tablespoon of spinach. Our guest had the Risotto special entre instead of Turkey but was unable to eat it.
We were part of their 5:00 seating and the staff clearly wanted to shut the restaurant down. You could hear them complaining about people with 5:00 reservations ordering items, hauling trash bags out around diners, and one server even telling a customer they couldn’t have iced tea since they just threw it away.
Bottom line is that Hunters Head is very enjoyable for everyday dining but not for special occasions. We decided it would not be wise to make a fuss with server, BUT we are going to another restaurant tonight to try and recover from Thanksgiving night at Hunters Head.
Didn’t like sitting outside
We were in Upperville to pick up our fresh, heritage turkey @ Ayrshire Farm. Always love to stop here for lunch. The Barboursville chardonnay was excellent with the warm pub bread. Smaller menu but we were happy with what we ordered. Barry had the "Build a better burger" while I had fish (cod) & chips. No room for dessert. Hoping to return soon!
Love hunters head every time I come here. Super friendly staff and phenomenal food in a beautiful setting. Can’t go wrong!
We are frequent diners at the Hunters Head and this afternoon’s meal was above par. We started with veal meatballs and French onion soup as starters and then moved on to the shrimp Caesar salad and bangers and mash. All was delicious!
The hit of the meal was our waiter, Gary, who was outstanding. He was attentive and prompt and volunteered to remedy the smallest problem.
This place is just simply great, time and time again!
Quality of food was excellent. Prompt friendly service and cozy pub atmosphere
The food is equivalent to TGI Fridays. Stick with burgers or sandwiches. If you try to order anything else you will overpay and be really disappointed. The chicken fried steak is horrible. The Steak Frites isn't much better. I think the wait staff is nice, but the entire restaurant seemed in the weeds and simple things like taking drink orders or putting water on the table seemed to be a difficult task to achieve. There aren't a lot of restaurants near this place so if your in a jam I guess this is it, but I would encourage anyone to drive a little further and try a different place
Celebrated our 10 year anniversary. It was perfect and the food was amazing.
Our server was very attentive, the food and drinks came out quickly, the ambience was cozy, the day beautiful. I highly recommend this place for its laidback vibe and the beautiful countryside drive that precedes it.
The service was great. You could tell the staff was stressed and stretched a little thin, but they were all incredibly friendly and did a great job. The food itself was disappointing. Overall under seasoned and a little boring (we went for lunch, so dinner may be different). The desserts were great though.
Great food, well prepared; actually better than I recalled from the last few times we were there - the dish I had was prepared differently than I recall, and the change was for the better. Excellent beer and wine selection. They were able to switch us from an outdoor tent table to an indoor one at the last minute so that was nice. Waitstaff attentive and courteous.
Great atmosphere and location. Average service at best. The food was awful, chicken was gross and cold, fish was hot but hard to find in all the batter. My suggestion is go to the restaurant but bring your own food.
Everything is excellent, except for some flies were on the table, which did bother us ...
First time for my wife, second trip for me. Loved the beef stew & Thai chili brussel sprouts…pork pot roast a little dry. Blackberry Old Fashioned & Spiked Apple Pie drinks superb.
“Gary” is an excellent server, very attentive & tells the truth about dishes.
This is an old restaurant but that also provides its character. We would definitely return!
We had made a reservation for lunch after a hike. We have been here before and although it was good enough, this time the food felt updated (and delicious!) and the atmosphere a little livelier and more relaxed. Like everywhere else, they were a bit short staffed but everyone was pitching in so we hardly noticed. I had the fish and chips with delicious fries and fresh fish which had a perfect light crispy batter. My friend had a delicious, perfectly cooked cheeseburger. We look forward to returning soon!
