About Hunter's Bar and Grill
The Hunter's Inn opened its doors in the heart of Potomac Village in 1977. An Instant success, local papers named Hunter's "The best place to meet", "The best place to make a deal" and "The most romantic restaurant". Washingtonian Magazine described the burger as one of Washington's best. The Hunter's Inn has been reborn through the efforts of Washington natives Fred and Murray Berman. The two brothers combined have more than 50 years of restaurant experience. Since they've taken control over the restaurant's operations, immediate improvements have been made to the quality of food and service. Concentrating on fresh fish, quality meats and innovative menu selections as well as large entree salads, pasta, ribs, and chops. To compliment the menu, Fred and Murray have expanded and enhanced the wine list, making it one the most extensive in the Potomac area. Hunter's Inn is considered the "Cheers of Potomac".

Hunter's Bar and Grill Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I went out with two friends (another couple) on Sat night. I asked for booth/window seating, so we were placed in the bar area. Unfortunately, around 6-8 p.m. it was still "happy hour" mode and it was pretty loud. We stayed through b/c the seating was comfy and we didn't want to move. Everyone enjoyed their entree but me. I was so excited for the chicken marsala. The chicken was very thin and the taste in the marsala sauce...non existent. My husband loved his filet though. Recommendations: offer a cocktail menu, lower noise in bar after 7:30, and work on that marsala dish sauce a bit more. :)
This is a mixed review. I enjoyed my chicken Marsala. My husband had ordered fajitas because it was Mexico night. He was used to a large tortilla on a heated plate with Avacado , sour cream and he was very disappointed.
We will try it again because it was a relaxing, comfortable and friendly place. Old style.
Our group of 3 arrived on a day when there was a special dinner menu that included salad, entree, and glass of wine for a fixed price. This was a very nice "deal", and we all participated. The entree choices were also on the regular menu at a slightly higher cost for one item without the other two, so we had very good value meals! The person who delivered our salads got them wrong and we didn't realize it until after a few bites so just kept them, but other than that, the meals were fine. I had hoped to use an Open Table reward credit, but, though it appeared that Hunter's Inn was a participant in this program, the management did not honor it. It used to be easy to use an Open Table reward, but I have had trouble on several occasions now with this new program.
I had a wonderful meal due to good food and a wonderful server. My whole party ordered the roast chicken and we all agreed how delicious it was. The raisin bread was a perfect enhancement to our cocktails We had a birthday girl with us and she got a free dessert with a candle. The night we were there wasn't crowded so we enjoyed having great conversations without having to shout and could hear only our own voices.
While visiting on a Saturday night, the service was clumsy (we asked for a few additional items like mayo that never arrived, the server was working quickly among several tables), the food seemed mostly frozen and reheated vs fresh (burger and chicken kebab on rice pilaf), and we needed to speak in raised voices despite the restaurant not being crowded. It also felt like it needs a good scrub - the menus felt greasy, the carpet had crumbs on it, the front door windows were smeared, etc. I'm sure it was once a good restaurant but needs a fresh eye, particularly given the prices.
Waiter was Wonderful.... However, the Hostess was Rude and Obnoxious! I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with that old woman before. I suggest getting a much younger and cheerful person to do her job (Which could be just about anybody!) Will seriously consider other locations before this one in the future.
The restaurant was totally unprepared for the crowd on Valentine's Day. Took almost an hour after being seated to receive appetizers. Roast Beef was extremely overlooked and when we returned it we were told they had no other portions. Owner said why don't I get you a steak and then when the bill came they upcharged us for the steak they offered to get us. Waiter apologized many times for the terribly slow service. While we waited for our food did not even offer us bread or anything else to eat. Nice restaurant but may not return given the experience.
on open table We booked a table for two and when we arrived we requested a booth in the bar area. The owner said because I booked with Open Table that I couldn't get a table in the bar area and would have to sit in the main dining room. He said to just call him if we wanted to request that area.
We eaten there for years. How could this very poor welcoming service be explained?
Good and reliable with nice variety for everyone. Had a post-new year's lunch with friends and family and it was just right. It's not a mind blowing gastro experience but very nice mix for everyone. Had salads, burgers, Reubens and everyone left happy and satisfied. They nicely put our bigger group in a more private area without asking. Good attentive service without being too much. Well done today!
Reservation not needed, restaurant half empty at 6 PM. Thanksgiving dinner. Not what we expected based upon past visits. Ran out of multiple menu items, dark meat turkey and stuffing. Owner reduced bill by $2 per person as compensation. String beans almost raw. Supermarket quality pumpkin pie and cold dinner rolls. Wait staff rolled empty tables past our booth. Pleasant wait staff. Probably will not return.
Food was average at best. The fried Calamari had a bad aftertaste as if the oil wasn't fresh and the steak frites was more of an over seasoned steak marsala w/ soggy fries. The Caesar dressing was fine but the chicken was dry. Service was good.
This friendly bar and cozy (fire place burning) dining room are a classic in Potomac, MD ! The food is really outstanding and changes regularly, and no matter whether it is a bowl of chili in the bar or a piece of halibut in the dining room you will not go home hungry. The best item on the menu is the Hunter's Tenderloin with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus . The sauce on this will get you hooked! The classic cocktails are even worth the trip out River Road ! Now you know why we drive from Laytonsville to enjoy the fine folks that run Hunters!
