Hunter Steakhouse - Oceanside Ratings and Reviews
Valentine’s Day expected it to be crowded. Front house staff young inexperienced. Attempted to sit us at a table that could not be used. Wait staff moved us. Five minutes later there were 5 open tables. We saw interactions with two other parties that were also very confused. We like this restaurant but under pressure the staff seemed unprepared.
service was fair, server was friendly but a little on the ditsy side, she took two other table order before us, even though we were sat before the two parties and was forgetful. Steak dinner was tough, and au gratin potatoes were a miss, no taste. I have had steak before at this location and it was good, The only thing that saved the meal was the salad & bread.
Visited Hunter’s Steakhouse with my daughter (almost four), cousin, and uncle. The hostesses were a little cold when we arrived, they did not greet us. I’m not sure if they were new. Our server provided great service. Our needs were met and she delivered our drinks and food fairly quickly. There was a little delay in getting the food ordered, but the dining room got pretty filled up. Would definitely return again.
Meets and at times exceeds expectations. Service is always "Spot On" - Kitchen is sometimes unpredictable, but not bad, and that is usually based on the amount of guests. Bar is never a disappointment, and management is always ready to step in and make things right. This is my "go to" place for casual and comfortable Prime Rib dining, along with the "table side" salad!
We had Rib-Eye and Prime Rib with salad, vegetables and baked potatoes. The Rib-Eye was burned twice and left without eating it. The prime-rib was okay. We were given a $5 discount for the Rib-Eye. The service was good and was appreciated. We expected better quality from a steak place.
Wow!!! What a nice find. I am not from the area, so, this restaurant was a shot in the dark. as it turned out, it was great!!! Friendly and cordial reception, quick seating and great waitress. Next time I'm in Oceanside, Hunter's will be on my list for dinner again...Oh yeah, the food was great!!!
Five of us dined there Friday evening. First the parking was a big problem. Our wife's had the prime rib that was excellent, cooked well and tender. I had the NY strip that was cooked well but very tough (disappointed). My son had the rib eye steak that was overcooked and chewy. My grandson had the half rack BBQ ribs which he liked. The service was very good and the wine excellent as well. When one dines at the Hunter Steakhouse in Oceanside order the prime rib!
Had dinner at "Hungry Hunter" to relive the old days when high school kids would go there before formal dances. Food is good but it hasn't ever been remodeled from what I can see. Fine for me since it reminds me of 1983 but probably not too inviting for new diners. Too many nice upscale places to go for the same price.
Love this place. It is a jewel. My family is from the Bay Area. We travel to socal quite a bit and we love this place. We miss the original Hungry Hunters in the bay. We are thrilled that the San Diego area still has these two well run gems going strong as ever. Truly appreciate the restaurant and its great service and food.
Pretty quite that night, but even better for service and food since attention level was high. Steaks were perfectly prepared and salad fresh. I had the standard fillet cooked medium and it was the right combination of pink and red from ends to center. The wine offering was a little weak as I found only one Zinfandel offered, so I took a Big Red Cab ;-). Always love the custom built-at-your-table salad bar and the desert offerings are sweet!
Let me begin by saying that I'm not a complainer. We've been going to the Hunter for decades, so naturally I brought our party of eight there for a birthday celebration. My wife ordered a steak as we were advised that one couldn't get rare prime rib. She ordered a rib eye, rare...when it arrived, it was about 1/4 inch thick and so overdone as to be inedible. She sent it back and ordered a top sirloin hoping for a thicker piece of meat, and rare. It arrived after everyone else was nearly finished eating and was only passable. My prime rib, largest cut, was only marginal. I don't mind paying for it, but I want good quality. Normally, I would just not go back to a restaurant after this experience, however you asked for my opinion. We will not go back to the Hunter.
