Hunter Steakhouse - Oceanside Ratings and Reviews
Wow!!! What a nice find. I am not from the area, so, this restaurant was a shot in the dark. as it turned out, it was great!!! Friendly and cordial reception, quick seating and great waitress. Next time I'm in Oceanside, Hunter's will be on my list for dinner again...Oh yeah, the food was great!!!
Five of us dined there Friday evening. First the parking was a big problem. Our wife's had the prime rib that was excellent, cooked well and tender. I had the NY strip that was cooked well but very tough (disappointed). My son had the rib eye steak that was overcooked and chewy. My grandson had the half rack BBQ ribs which he liked. The service was very good and the wine excellent as well. When one dines at the Hunter Steakhouse in Oceanside order the prime rib!
Had dinner at "Hungry Hunter" to relive the old days when high school kids would go there before formal dances. Food is good but it hasn't ever been remodeled from what I can see. Fine for me since it reminds me of 1983 but probably not too inviting for new diners. Too many nice upscale places to go for the same price.
Love this place. It is a jewel. My family is from the Bay Area. We travel to socal quite a bit and we love this place. We miss the original Hungry Hunters in the bay. We are thrilled that the San Diego area still has these two well run gems going strong as ever. Truly appreciate the restaurant and its great service and food.
Pretty quite that night, but even better for service and food since attention level was high. Steaks were perfectly prepared and salad fresh. I had the standard fillet cooked medium and it was the right combination of pink and red from ends to center. The wine offering was a little weak as I found only one Zinfandel offered, so I took a Big Red Cab ;-). Always love the custom built-at-your-table salad bar and the desert offerings are sweet!
Let me begin by saying that I'm not a complainer. We've been going to the Hunter for decades, so naturally I brought our party of eight there for a birthday celebration. My wife ordered a steak as we were advised that one couldn't get rare prime rib. She ordered a rib eye, rare...when it arrived, it was about 1/4 inch thick and so overdone as to be inedible. She sent it back and ordered a top sirloin hoping for a thicker piece of meat, and rare. It arrived after everyone else was nearly finished eating and was only passable. My prime rib, largest cut, was only marginal. I don't mind paying for it, but I want good quality. Normally, I would just not go back to a restaurant after this experience, however you asked for my opinion. We will not go back to the Hunter.
We visited Monday night my Prime rib was excellent also my wife's filet was excellent my kids enjoyed everything as well. Overall a great night . Our waitress (Sadie or Sadia sorry I can't remember well) did a great job coursing everything out. We would definitely try this place again if we run by Oceanside again.
This is an old place with really good prime rib and the tableside made-to-order salad is the best! Not trendy, not hip, it's actually rather dark inside. There are stairs descending to a small & pretty quiet bar, which we liked. Food is pricey but very good. Mostly an older neighborhood crowd when we were there.
We come to Oceanside at least once a year with our kids and grandkids. It has become our tradition to go to Hunter's Steakhouse one of our last nights there and we are never disappointed. We always start off with the stuffed mushrooms, which are filled with crabmeat and covered with cheese. They are the best I have ever had anywhere. The next course is their table side salad. You select from a number of items, it is one of my favorite parts; love the choices and the dressing. I always choose the stuffed sirloin, which is filled and topped with mushrooms and bacon wrapped. I love it and can't find it on any one else's menu. My husband gets the whiskey peppercorn steak, again a pretty unique item. They have a sirloin steak on the kids menu which my grand kids get, it is good size and tasty. My grandson got the chicken tenders they unfortunately, were over cooked but because of the salad he was very happy and full. They have a good choice of desserts and they are all good. We will continue this tradition the next time we are in Oceanside.
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with our experience. For a steakhouse, the steaks were not the greatest quality and were not cooked property (had to send one back which is always lousy) and were not adequately seasoned (very plain). Also, we were very rushed. Our salads came out instantly with the meals to follow not giving any time to enjoy the cocktail or the evening itself. We were in and out in 1 hour.
My husband and I enjoyed a Sunday Brunch At Hunter Steakhouse. The House Specialty with Hollandaise my Husband said was the best he's ever eaten. Plates hot, food hot, endless Champagne for $3.00........... we will likely return and recommend this Restaurant.
From its location I assumed that the restaurant had dining room views of the Buena Vista Lagoon. I chose it for this and because I heard the food was very good. It was, but we were shut up inside small dark rooms and told that only the kitchen help had views of the lagoon on that side of the building. As it was my husband's 82 birthday, I was disappointed.
You are missing a bet if you do not remodel and take advantage of the site.at only the kitchen is on the lagoon side of the restaurant so the kitchen help have a good view.
It was my brothers birthday and he wanted to come here. We have eaten here before and it has always been great. Both our dinners were excellent. My lemon drop martini was the best I have ever had. Janine, our waitress, was so great. She even brought us each a piece of chocolate cake. We didn't have to share. IT WAS A PERFECT BIRTHDAY. THANX Hunter for a wonderful time.
Went for Mother's Day brunch. Food was cold and mediocre. At $25 a head (drinks not included), was a bit steep. $15 would have been more appropriate or include drinks.
It's to bad. If you go for non events, it's better. They seem to do fine with smaller crowds and menu.
Well I went here because I usually go to Black Angus.
I wanted to try something my sister and I would think a scale up. I went alone yes I told my sister about my experience.
My salad (Tableside) the lettuce was wet and wilted had to ask for her to remake it.
Waitress said they threw out the old salad which should of been looked over before serving.
I ordered prime rib (med. rare ) came out a good piece but medium ...had to get a new one which came out smaller than the one before had a lot of fat but it was med. rare ...
overall looking for a "A"going in came out with "C"..grade wise
Just to let you know it wasn't my waitress, but one that was serving came out to talk to hostess.
She was chewing food like she just ate something so tacky to do while you're working.
What is she eating her dinner and working or stole something on the side ... Just tacky for any restaurant....
As far as recommending still on the fence....
Going to send this private hoping if I come back it would be a different experience...
