Hunter Steakhouse - Mission Valley Ratings and Reviews
Hostess were to busy talking to each other to greet not only us, but other guest as well. Try to let the hostess know that it was my daughter birthday so I could arrange a dessert for her, but she was not interested in what I had to say.
Section we were seated in waitress had a big party, which is fine except she did not even greet us for 15 minutes, we had to find someone to at least get us water. When she finally came we ordered our drinks, and dinner. It took 20 minutes to get our salads, and we believe the only reason we did is because another table she like got a salad as well.
She spent more time concerned with what her tips were from the large party.
When our dinner came she was not the one who served us, but the person a (man) through the plates on the table. My daughter try to find out why her plate had so much juice on it due to she ordered her steak well done. He told her it was scampi sauce. It was the juices from her steak, and left. No one offer her steak sauce, and anything else.
Our waitress was much nicer to the table that was sat after us.
This was my daughters and son-in laws first time at your restaurant I do not believe they will ever return. We were not happy with service, or the meal.
I have eaten at your restaurant before, and if this had been my first I would not return either. At this point I do not no if I will. I will never bring people to celebrate anything again.
My husband and I have been coming to Hunter Steakhouse for probably 35+ years...from the original Hungry Hunter (with bear in cage) through numerous re-decorating attempts. The food is always good. The parking lot needs a lot of work--especially in the handicap area (uneven cement cracked and broken up). We thoroughly enjoyed our 49th wedding anniversary, and took good care of our waiter--who took good care of us! We were pleasantly surprised at the delicious complementary slice of chocolate cake with whipped cream and raspberry sauce. Made for a special, fun occasion.
We were on business from out of town and enjoyed our meal. However, after leaving this restaurant a member of our party had their credit card compromised. Unauthorized charges totaling close to $1,000 were made after using their credit card at this business. This was the only place the credit card was used and left this person in an unfortunate position during their business travel.
Definitely will not be returning or recommending this establishment.
Been here 3 times. Steaks are great, prices are reasonable. Service is good. Salads at your table are a real treat. Clean plates for all of us. Limited desert menus, but that’s ok. Parking is difficult. The only downside is the music coming out of tinny speakers in the dining room. Bad sound and bad choice of tunes.
I always enjoy Hunter Steakhouse. The food is great and a good value, especially if you go on Monday or Tuesday when they offer the Restaurant Week special. Our only complaint was that the restaurant was uncomfortably cold even though we were only about 15 feet from the fireplace. We asked if there was a warmer table but were told they were all cold because of the air flow from the fireplace. We wound up eating our meal with jackets on to keep from freezing. Our server was very attentive but I only gave her 3 stars because we had only started our salad when the steaks were delivered to the table. We sent them back to be kept warm while we finished the salads. I can only imagine how good the steaks would have been if we had received them freshly cooked instead they sat somewhere for 10 minutes while we finished our salads.
We celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary there. It was a lot louder then we expected. It was hard to carry on a conversation. We waited about 7 minutes after we were seated for our waiter to ask for our drink order. The food was good except my husbands prime rib was very under cooked.
I dine by myself often, do not like being sat in a walk area. When I dine in these dining restaurants I make sure it is not during the busy times so I can enjoy my meal. I try very hard to not stay to long so that servers can get there table back to set bigger parties. As I do like the food here, but do not go often and will not tell single people to enjoy your restaurant.
Arrived early and was Seated right away😁. Amber was our Waitress, Friendly, Knowledgeable of Menu Items, Great Customer Service 👍🏼👍🏼. Rib Eye was tasty and charred just right. Prime Rib was tasty. Great sides and salads. Oreo ice Cream dessert was Awesome 👏 👍🏼. Fresh crispy almonds slivers sprinkled over dessert. Thank You Very Much Hunter Steakhouse.
I love that hunters is a classic restaurant but many of us have never been there. I love the downstairs lounge with the fireplace. The food was fabulous, server was very attentive but it was very crowded that day and it was pretty loud otherwise wonderful. I will return!
One of the best steak dinners in San Diego. Worth a nice weekday or Sat Night dinner. The ribs are fall of the bone delicious and the table side salad bar is outstanding. Worth the extra few pennies to eat there verses some of the other steak houses in the county.
I've been to Hunters plenty of times, so the fact that it's not a consistent 4 star for me was a surprise.
Maybe it was Sunday that threw them off, but we were seated at a lonely little table in the corner of a tired room...the place is in desperate need of refurbishing.
We kept it simple--Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail For him (yes! Worth it) and we shared crab stuffed mushrooms, which, you know can be tricky, but they hot them right!
I tried the shrimp scampi lunguini-- they could just call it shrimp and lunguini. If there was any garlic, they were rationing it like it was a sugar coupon on WWII. I needed to ask for more parmigian just to taste something.
He had the ribeye, cooked to perfection. The lesson here, if you go to a steakhouse, order steak.
The ceasar salads were forgettable as was the turtle pie cheesecake. The flourless chocolate cake though, that hit the spot.
Our server was rarely seen, but they had so many busboys darting through the room it was distracting. We were in a corner, and still, it was excessive activity for a near empty restaurant.
Food was as expected. Cooked to our liking. Service was horrible. Our server obviously did not want to be there. She did not offer suggestions and only checked on us once. Busser was the one that kept me in water since she was never around. And when another soda was needed, we had to wait a ridiculous amount of time for it. Other tables in our area had a male server and he was on the ball. Constantly checking his tables and just a presence in the room if needed, plus he was doing other things as well like putting candles on the tables etc. Entire experience could have been improved if the service had not been so lacking.
We were there for San Diego Restaurant Week and we definitely enjoyed the food. The baby back ribs and the prime rib were so delicious! The bread, the salad wheel, the potato skins, the chocolate mousse with raspberry were so yummy as well! And.. The service was very good too!!!
We had a reservation. We arrived on time at 6:30 and were told we had to wait 15 minutes. I reiterated that we had a reservation and they said sorry. Then snickered behind my back the moment I turned to go find a place to wait with all of the other 25+ people.
When it was finally our turn, I had to ask, we were told we were next. A person who had init;ally walked in behind us made a reservation for 6:45. As were beginning to walk to the dining area that same person was told they were next. Apparently, you don't need reservations because you have to wait and are seated according to when you arrive anyway. This is not how reservations are supposed to work.
I ordered the 'award winning' prime rib. It was full of tendons and was by no means great, let alone award winning. I ate 3 or 4 bites around the edges as this was the only part that wasn't filled with tendons, the rest was a waste and no one ate it. My husband enjoyed his prime rib (he had a different cut than I did, apparently) and my son enjoyed his lamb. I tasted the lamb, it was delicious.
The service was good, not great...felt like I was eating at an every day place, had to ask for water, refilled my own wine glass...nothing outstanding.
The thing that stands out is their pricing, the value was definitely there for the wine and other dishes...I would never order the 'award winning' prime rib again...even if it was free. So if you want good food, good service, good value then this is a good place. Don't bother with a reservation, it's a waste of energy.
We went for the Restaurant Week 4-Course dinner. The waiter was fine, quick service BUT we expected our 4 courses to be served separately. We got our salad first, and during the salad course the busboy delivered our appetizers. Odd, but not as bad as the table adjacent to us who got their salad during their main! It just felt like nobody cared when anything was delivered. The salad, mains and apps were good. The desserts were not so good with the carrot cake being very dry with thin icing, unlike typical cream cheese icing that is thick and generous. We probably won't go back even though it might be better not during Restaurant Week. Black Angus and Outback are better.
I would strongly recommend NOT dining here. We had an 8pm reservation, but had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. The place was not packed, when we were seated there were only 3 other couples in the side of the restaurant we were and a dozen or so empty tables.
The aesthetic is poor, walls are poorly painted and the wall alongside our table had big chunks of chipped/flaked off paint.
We ordered immediately and waited another 20 minutes for our appetizer to arrive, 3 shrimp. It was ok, but it shouldnt take 20 minutes for an uncooked appetizer to arrive.
The steak was plained and unflavored as were the mashed potatoes. We came for restaurant week and it was a let down at best. Service was poor. Aesthetics were poor. Food was unflavored and I can only imagine this is to blame due to poor planning of restaurant week prep.
