We had the Ono main course and the mahi mahi main course. The Hamachi carpaccio appetizer was outstanding! One of the best dishes I've ever experienced. The main courses were excellent! Great service. Great experience.
The food was delicious, our table wasn’t really great facing the back waterfall and it was a bit noisy. Also our waiter maybe was having a rough night but was barely attentive, for an expensive meal I would have expected a lot better service. I have to say I’m kind of disappointed and the restaurant came highly recommended.
First of all, our service was outstanding. Thank you Patrick! Now, the restaurant was disappointing. I’ve been coming here for many years, last year it was closed for renovations so I was expecting a completely new experience. Other than removing the aquarium, I’m not sure what was renovated. The new menu was a bit disappointing because the Humu pie was noticeably absent!! The fish are gone from the lagoon, no lobster either. Really? Let’s get it together Humu and make the restaurant the premier destination restaurant it once was a few years ago. I will be back again next year, I hope to see improvements!
Phenomenal restaurant on Grand Wailea property and worth every penny. Very pricey, but original creations and tasty and healthy food with great views of the Wailea beach. Restaurant ambience is incredible, very cozy private tables as well as live music. The hut styled theme on the “fake” lagoon is just pure genius. Just like the property, this one is worth it every time you stay here, or at least if you are in Wailea area. Good portion of the menu is practically gluten-free or can be made such, and we were able to have our choices. But make sure you stress gluten-free and request gluten-free bread if you want to partake in certain appetizers like the mussels or they will show up with bread atop the dish.
Everything was amazing overall. My husband’s steak wasn’t cooked to his liking and they quickly fixed that and gave us a cute stuffed animal Fish as an apology lol. We would definitely go back!
The meal was unmatched. The service was great. We had eaten here 6 years ago, but the restaurant and our experience was much improved. It was truly an unforgettable experience.
Food and service was great!! I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Beautiful restaurant and the Wailea grounds are amazing. Had a reservation for 6, but only 5 people went. When I modified reservation at check in we still had to wait 10 minutes. Only had place settings for 4 people when we were seated. We asked for the 5th setting and rather than setting the table they threw the setting in front of our 5th guest. Food was mediocre, definitely had better on the island. Menu is small and the steak is better than the seafood. Waitress wasn’t all that friendly, very pretentious. Will not go back the next time we visit the island.
Great restaurant at the Grand Wailea. Cocktails and food was well done as with the other top notch restaurants in the area. We enjoyed scallop and spicy beef appetizers, and each of the three of us ordered a different fish entree. For dessert, a chocolate treat that was not overly sweet.
All of the food was done to perfection, and the ambiance sitting on the edge of the lagoon is wonderful. (Tip: if you reserve dinner when they open, you should get a lagoon-side table.) Only thing that could have been done better would have been more creative dishes and flavors. But, again, everything was great and we will be back.
The food was a bit too inventive, sacrificing quality for something new. The service was great, and so was the bread. Definitely pass on the poke here - cumin and parsley do not make for a good mix with the fish. The bread was awesome!
We have been dining at Humu for many years. Last time we came to Maui it was being remodeled, so we waited for it to be completed. Upon our arrival we were startled that the fish are gone, as well as the lobsters you used to pick out. Our server tried to explain why they were gone. That was our favorite part of Humu. We waited 3 extra years for nothing. The menu was shockingly smaller, and higher priced. I'm no stranger to fine dining, but really? I could see everyone's faces when they opened the menus, too. The negotiating began right away. We saw lots of shared appetizers and one drink go by. Our server took the menus and recommended his favorite Cabernet to go with our Steak & Lobster. I got two bites of a tail & my husband got a whole tail, which he gave me. When the bill came the wine was $250! We told our waiter about our unhappiness and he paid for our two salads. We will go back when the fish return. We sill still stay at Grand Wailea, but walk to Ruth's Chris, Longhi's, and Tommy Bahama's.
The ambience is wonderful, but the food leaves something to be desired.
When u spend all day at the pool and don’t want to go out, you pretty much have to do room service, Humu or the bistro at grand Wailea none of which are real good. We both ordered the filet med well and it was under cooked and our waitress was not very attentive nor did she ask about the large portion my wife left uneaten. While we will come back to grand Wailea we will not go back to humu.
My wife and I had our first honeymoon dinner here, and it was spectacular. Our waiter was super knowledgeable about the menu and had great recommendations, which we loved. He was also very friendly and a pleasure to talk to. Beautiful setting for any occasion.
This is one of our favorite restaurants ever. It’s where we come to celebrate our anniversary when we are in Maui. You can’t beat the view and the food is always wonderful. The service is prompt and the servers are knowledgeable and friendly. Book your dinner early to take advantage of the sunset.
The food was good but expensive for what we had. It was a absolutely beautiful venue and our server was nice.
The drinks were all had crafted and out waiter was amazing, telling us exactly what to expect with everything we ordered.
Ask for Larry. Best server in Maui! Enjoyed his expertise and knowledge of the area and food
Great service. Limited menu choices. Great view and ambience.
Amazing food, which was only bettered by the service we received, thank you for a great dining experience
I adore Humu. The ambience is unparalleled anywhere else on the island in my opinion. The entire restaurant is thatched Polynesian huts essentially sitting in the middle of water, combined with stunning views of Wailea Beach and sunsets and wonderful live music. Adding to that the service and food are stellar. The menu is short and sweet - but still has something for everyone and new items make their way onto the menu often. In short - if you want a special occasion spot - or are looking for a restaurant that really makes you feel like you are in Hawaii, this is the spot. Special shot out to our server on this visit, Larry, who was exceptional.
I have been to this restaurant many times and it never feels to amaze me how well the food is prepared and how incredible the staff is. I will definitely be back.
The Restaurant Management should have called us if our request to reserve a sunset railing table in the Bar could not be granted. Or at least offer us a railing sunset table in the main dining room. We made our reservation a few weeks back.
They attempted to seat us away from the bar in a room with no view. I mentioned that I had requested a bar seat with the sunset view. Oh, she said, bar is first come first serve basis. I asked, why did they not call me and tell that? No response. So we waited in the bar seated on a tall chair limited ocean view (which was very difficult for me with a bad back). From the bar table, we could see a railing sunset table come available in the main dining room and my Husband ran off to see if they could move us there. Turns out he was greeted by the MGR and my Husband told him what happened. They moved us to the table and everything else was great. So if you have a special request, call in and ask, don't expect them to be able accommodate you.
Absolutely amazing meal!! We’re staying at the Grand Wailea which is also absolutely amazing. Dinner was delicious, service was outstanding, and the setting was absolutely perfect. Thank you Humu for making our anniversary dinner absolutely perfect!
Great evening here for dinner. I forget the waitress's name, but she was lovely. She brought us a special dessert for our honeymoon.
Dinner was just ok, expected much better
Upon arrival we were sitters in the middle of the restaurant with 2 children and guit a big stroller which was obviously going to be in the way (we didn’t want to disturb anyone else dinner), we asked to be seated in the corner and kindly allowed us to be moved.
Everything after that was more then amazing. Our drinks were placed in the fridge while my husband went to get my daughters blanket which a nice gesture. Our Server Justin was very polite and knowledgeable.
Our appetizers were fresh and had great flavor (hamachi and the ahi poke). The hamachi and ginger shaved ice was the best thing we had on property. The layers were of the dish were very well though out.
We then had the clams which were a little to sweet for our liking but we did enjoy them.
Dinner was great my daughter has the Mahi and it was cooked perfect as was the steak and lobster. The NY was cooked perfectly but my husband wish he had gotten the 8oz instead. Again the sauce on the steak was a little sweet we should of asked for it on the side. He did enjoy it either way. For dessert we our server Justin acknowledged both our anniversary and also my daughters birthday. Both desserts were very good. Our busser was so friendly and quiet around the baby.. our glasses never went empty. We are more then thankful that we had dinner here it was a wonderful experience. Thank you. Hope to see you again.
We love the ambiance and the food but service has fallen short again. It has been two years since we visited and the review would be the same. Great ambiance, fantastic food, lots of choices for gluten free (including some bread offered with dinner), but the service was lacking again. Although very friendly the kitchen was far outperforming the waiter. Ended up eating the entire main course before we could flag down any staff to bring the wine that was ordered for dinner, but forgotten. Left with desert menus, but it was a good 15 minutes before the waiter returned, so by then we decided skip coffee and desert. For gluten free diners, many choices for appetizers and main courses, but limited to ice cream or sorbet for a desert.
Went there for the first time for our anniversary and our view was beautiful, our food was delicious, our waiter the local boy was awesome, our anniversary dessert was ono plus got Kamaaina discount. I highly recommend this place.
Alex, our server was absolutely spectacular. She shared the special and catch of the day. She was also knowledgeable about the wine list. She helped to make our dining experience memorable.
Poor service and mediocre food. Not worth the price when much better options are available all around!
It was our 10th wedding anniversary annd we had dinner reservations.
My wife ordered steak and lobster and it came with a Pacific 5 oz. Tail and a Maine lobster claw (meat only). Steak was ordered med well and it was medium rare.
Proportions were small, and very expensive.
The steak and lobster was $80 per plate and not worth $40.
We will go back to the Grand Wailae but will not be eating dinner at their resraurants.
The breakfasts were outstanding in the hotel.
This is the second time I have eaten here. The last time was just before they closed for remodeling. So, the marginal food and service got a pass. This time there was absolutely no excuse. It was our Anniversary, which they acknowledged when we arrived, and then proceeded to seat us nowhere near a table with a view of the sunset instead, apparently, reserving those open tables for younger diners. The wine list was at least $25 above other top restaurants on Maui for each and every wine. My wife’s entree arrived undercooked and when we asked them to bring it up to at least medium rare, they brought it back, more than well done. It then was tough and flavorless. Lastly as a Hilton Hhonors Diamond member, I have spent more than my fair share at Hilton Properties. Unfortunately this restaurant seriously detracts from the Waldorf experience
Small portions and scallops we’re underdone. Otherwise was very good. Great ombiance and views.
Sadly we didn't have a positive experience. The food was served cold. My wife spit out the seared ahi. The server was nice and tried to make things right but the damage was done. As usual the view is great. It's way over priced. Three cocktails set us back by $68!!
You are paying a premium (+30 %) for dining at The Grand Wailea.
Awesome is as awesome does
Great ambiance/views, delicious locally sourced food, wonderful service (Kenneth and Noah were fantastic!) Good vegetarian options as well as a few vegan options for those interested. I love that the locally source their ingredients, and the menu does seem to change seasonally. A little on the pricey side but worth it!
We celebrated our marriage and our sons 8th birthday! It was such a beautiful restaurant and caught the most gorgeous sunset! Our server Patrick, gave us top notch - 5 star service! Food was so delicious! Cant wait to go back!
My mahi was amazing! Loved that the chef let me modify the dish & forego the orange sauce; they brought me a yummy spicy sauce instead. It’s just pricey there, with few options, especially if you’re not wanting to go all out, but want to enjoy the view/atmosphere. Most dishes are steak or fish - $20 + at least.
